Elvis Presley: 50 Australian Top Ten Hits 1956-1977 has this week debuted within the Top Ten on the Australian albums chart - at No.9. Thus making the Top Ten Hits album a Top Ten Hit! Elvis' last Top 10 debut album was '2nd to None' which debuted and peaked at No.4 on October 13, 2003, although his last Top Ten album was 'The King' which peaked at No.4 on August 20, 2007 after a debut at No.22 the previous week.

On the ARIA Music DVD Chart the Elvis The King Of Rock 'N' Roll is No.18 this week with a total of 88 weeks on the chart and a peak of No.4 and is 2 x Platinum. The single disc version of the '68 Comeback Special is No.35 this week with 74 weeks on the chart and a peak of No.1 and is 5x Platinum.

Elvis previously had five albums in the Australian top 100 in August - Sept 1997, when he had the five on the chart for three weeks in a row. Previous to this he had more than five albums on the chart, 11, in 1977.

On the tenth anniversary (1987), the album Words & Music reached the top 10 peaking at No.8.

Within weeks of his death on August 16, there were as many as eleven Elvis Presley albums simultaneously in the Australian top 100 Albums chart. On the week of September 5 there were the 11 Elvis albums in the top 100. The new release, Moody Blue was No.8, Rock 'N' On No.43, Rock 'N' On Vol. 2 No.47, Elvis In The 70's No.54, Welcome To My World No.58, Blue Hawaii No.68, G.I. Blues No.72, The Elvis Tapes No.80, Elvis' Golden Records Vol.1 No.82, A Legendary performer Vol.2 No.87 and Elvis In Demand No.89. (On that week, the 1973 album Aloha From Hawaii actually dropped back out of the top 100 after spending just one week back in the list.) The Moody Blue album was on the chart the day Elvis died, peaking at No.3.

The set provides a unique insight into Elvis Presley's popularity in Australia, a country where he managed an incredible twenty-year streak of placing hits on the singles chart. While disc one includes many of the familiar hits, disc two features not only the well known hit songs, but also many that are unique to Australia. The set contains informative liner notes written by chart historian Gavin Ryan with input from Wayne Hawthorne and David Troedson. The 18 page booklet also contains images of original RCA single releases, and CD label art inspired by his first album release in Australia, Elvis Presley LPM-1254.

'Ain't That Lovin' You Baby' was released as a double A-side single with the ballad 'Ask Me' and was Elvis' tenth No.1 hit in Australia, for three weeks from mid-November 1964. This song was originally recorded in June 1958, and while RCA pushed radio stations to play 'Ask Me' most ignored this and played the up-tempo 1958 recording and it was the older song that fans purchased the single for.

'Do The Clam' has never featured on an Elvis greatest hits compilation before, so here it is. Hitting No.1 in Brisbane, and No.4 nationally for two weeks in late May 1965, it didn't do so well overseas.

Originally recorded by Elvis for his 1961 album 'Something For Everybody', the song 'Judy' eventually climbed to No.5 in mid-December of 1967 and was his first Top 10 entry in Australia in almost two years.

Elvis' last movie was the dramatic film 'Change Of Habit', where he played a Doctor at an inner city hospital who falls in love with a nun played by Mary Tyler-Moore. One of only three songs in the film was the track 'Rubberneckin', which was remixed in 2003 and hit No.3. It was originally released as a double A side single with the Mac Davis penned song 'Don't Cry Daddy' in 1970 and reached No.3 for two weeks in March.

Tk42: Kentucky Rain (#9 - 1970)
Not since 1961 had Elvis scored six Top 10 singles in a year, and after his comeback special in 1968, he was back on the top of his musical game. The third of six top tens for him during 1970 was the No.9 single 'Kentucky Rain', which hit its peak in mid-May, and is another melancholy track which shows off his deep baritone voice.
