New Photos added 1 : Elvis Presley : Hudson Theater in New York City - Steve Allen Show - : July 1, 1956. Having arrived at the Hudson Theater in New York City to perform on the Steve Allen comedy show, Elvis is greeted by a female fan who had come all the way in from Long Island to meet her idol. (New York, July 1)

New Photos added 2 : Steve Allen, and Elvis discuss in rehearsal how Elvis will sing his song, Hound Dog, to a basset hound on a pedestal wearing a top hat. Allen wanted to avoid the controversy that occurred after Elvis swiveled his hips on 'The Milton Berle Show'. (NBC Television, Hudson Theater, New York, July 1, 1956).

New Photos added 3 : As Elvis left the Hudson Theater, his fans reached out  to touch their idol.

New Photos added 5 : Elvis, July 2, 1956, Recording Hound Dog in colour.

New Photos added 6 : Elvis, July 3, 1956, Elvis listens to the recordings he had made the previous day.

New Photos added 7 : Somewhere in the area of White Station (on Poplar) the train stops and Elvis gets off alone so he can walk to the Presley family home on Audubon Drive. It is believed the train stopped somewhere between Mendenhall and Colonial Roads. This is a special moment in Elvis' life as he had not yet reached the level of fame that prevented him from walking home alone in Memphis. Photographer Albert Wertheimer captured the moment from the train of Elvis walking on Poplar Avenue. In the photo above you can see a 'Town and Country Barber Shop' in the background. So from this we can locate the position today.

New Photos added 8 : Elvis on the phone at his Audubon house with his young cousin, Billy Smith, who would later become part of the 'Memphis Mafia', Elvis' entourage. In the background is Elvis' father, Vernon.

New Photos added 9 : Between the afternoon rehearsal and the evening performance of 'Stage Show', hosted by Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Elvis returns to the Warwick Hotel to rest and freshen up.

New Photos added 10 : Elvis chats with some very cold well wishers who came to greet him during near freezing weather the day he appeared for the first time on the Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey variety show, 'Stage Show', produced by Jackie Gleason. (CBS Studio 50, New York City, March 17, 1956).

'Most of the time, Elvis never even knew I took his picture', says Alfred Wertheimer.

'Elvis was almost laser-focused on whatever he did. So I would wait till he was involved - and Elvis was the kind of person who would be involved every 15 minutes in something else. Whether he's combing his hair, or buying a ring, or in rehearsal; whether he's talking to his father about why the plumbing isn't working and the swimming pool isn't full, or reassuring his mother that it’s O.K. to take a ride around the block on his motorcycle, or posing with some girls to take snaps by other girls, his life was full of activity'.
