Raised On Rock/For Ol' Times Sake | Elvis and Priscilla

What the Raised on Rock recording sessions tell us about Elvis and Priscilla by Mark Cunliffe. Raised on Rock/For Ol' Times Sake is one of the most disregarded 1970's Elvis albums that on second look actually reveals more about Elvis and his love for Priscilla than all the other Elvis albums put together.

Elvis in Hollywood | A Time to Reassess?

Elvis' Hollywood years have tended to be dismissed as a failure, both artistically and musically. Whilst some may concede that some his 1950's output is of value, and others might argue that 'GI Blues', 'Blue Hawaii' and even 'Viva Las Vegas' film and soundtracks aren't that bad, the majority of fan and general public opinion is dismissive to such an extent that this part of Elvis' musical heritage is widely ignored. This article sets out to re-visit the movie musical output to establish the truth.

Elvis: 40 years on ... and the world turns ...

It's hard to believe but here we are, 40 years on from a day carved indelibly in the memory of every Elvis fan old enough to be around when the stunning news of Elvis' death was announced. 40 years gone, but paradoxically, 40 years where he has been with us ever more visible and all encompassingly than when he lived. Today Elvis is bigger and more entrenched in popular culture and conscience than back in 1977, when his legendary status was acknowledged but barely understood by the world at large. Today Elvis' iconic status and continued relevance is universally acknowledged. It's not just Elvis fans commemorating this 40th anniversary, not just the native English speaking countries of the world.

Review : I Sing All Kinds The Nashville 1971 Sessions FTD CD

Sometimes living a long life has its rewards. Living to see this superb FTD album, 'I Sing All Kinds', is surely one of them. Shorn of the intrusive post production dubs, orchestration and background harmonies of the original releases, and given some inspired sound mixing, the songs on this FTD release are a joy to listen to. The improvement in sound and feel of the original releases is remarkable ...

Review : Elvis and the Birth of Rock and Roll photo book

The photographs featured in Elvis and the Birth of Rock and Roll were taken just as Elvis was emerging as a local southern star to a national one. This collection includes some of the most famous pictures ever taken of anyone ever. It includes photographs including such iconoclastic images as Elvis with cap sitting on motorbike, the kiss backstage, Elvis astride on stage with guitar, plus many more that are etched into the minds of Elvis fans and the public alike. Alfred Wertheimer didn't waste the opportunity .. The whole package is sheer class.

The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
