Elvis Presley burst on to the scene with his first single That's Alright Mama in 1954, and his hip-wiggling performance on the Ed Sullivan show two years later stunned audiences. But he had an undignified death in 1977, when he suffered heart failure.
The suicide of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and the disappearance of Manic Street Preachers star Richey Edwards were also near the top of the poll.
The death of INXS star Michael Hutchence, who was found hanging from a door in a Sydney hotel, also caused shockwaves.
Another bizarre moment was when Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13-year-old cousin Myra. The Great Balls Of Fire singer then took her on tour around England in 1958.

The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
