The four new releases from the Follow That Dream [FTD] Collectors Label are now in the process of being sent out to fan clubs. The new titles are two CDs in the 7" digipack 2 CD Classic albums series: Elvis Sings The Wonderful World Of Christmas & the much anticipated Promised Land. Plus the book, A Moment In Time : 4 Days in ‘56, a stunning glimpse of Elvis' life in 1956. And finally a new addition to the successful FTD series of Elvis albums on vinyl, this time the The Elvis Is Back Sessions double LP.

A Moment In Time : 4 Days in ‘56 is book only, with the price reflecting this, but also with it's previously unpublished photos and exciting format - no audio component  in necessary!!! also as Sony point out, the relevant music is available on Sony's 'Young Man With The Big Beat'. Author and producer Michael Rose has assembled a most stunning glimpse of Elvis' life in 1956. Through literally hundreds of photos : many previously unpublished : we get to join Elvis at his show in Detroit on May 25. We stay with the tour for two more days in Columbus and Dayton and finally arrive in Memphis on May 28.

Rose has interviewed people who attended the shows, found original newspaper coverage, chosen and organized the many photos, and arranged it all as a fascinating travel log.

This is the Elvis that country legend Bob Wills aptly described as a 'punk', before controversy and Hollywood toned him down. The perfect companion to Sony's new box set, 'Young Man With The Big Beat' (a few of the photos in the box set, including the front, actually comes from this book).

Promised Land : FTD Classic Album 2 CD

In 1973, Elvis Presley booked sessions at Memphis' famous Stax Studios, where Booker T. & the MGs, Otis Redding, and numerous other soul stars had recorded hits. Unfortunately, initial efforts to have Elvis Presley work with the Stax stable of musicians yielded few usable tracks, and Elvis soon called in his stage band to finish the sessions. The results can be heard on the albums Good Times, Raised On Rock, and Promised Land.

Like most of Elvis' 70s recordings, Promised Land is an eclectic mix reflecting Elvis Presley's many musical enthusiasms. The ten songs that make up this album run the gamut from country heartbreak songs ('There's a Honky Tonk Angel', 'Mr. Songman') to carnal white funk ('If You Talk in Your Sleep') to heartfelt gospel ('Help Me') to schmaltzy pop ('Love Song of the Year', 'It's Midnight'). While the performances on Promised Land are uniformly excellent, the material is a mixed bag of strong material and throwaways.

Elvis Presley's excellent first Christmas album, Elvis' Christmas Album, looms so large in the public psyche that it is hard to fairly judge this album but taken on its own terms, Elvis Sings The Wonderful World Of Christmas is a fine collection of seasonal favorites that would be a welcome addition to any Elvis fan's stocking.

Elvis Sings The Wonderful World Of Christmas includes a number of seasonal standards ('O Come, All Ye Faithful', 'The First Noel', and 'Winter Wonderland') as well as such newer songs as 'On a Snowy Christmas Night' and the title track. The highlights of the album are a gritty six-minute version of Charles Brown's hit 'Merry Christmas Baby' and the version of 'Blue Christmas' Elvis performed on his comeback television special.

What is 'DMM Copper Mastering'?

In short, it means that the audio quality is far more superior then a regular vinyl release. Direct Metal Mastering (or DMM for short) is an analogue audio disc mastering technique jointly developed by two German companies, Telefunken-Decca (TelDec) and Georg Neumann GmbH, towards the end of the 20th century. Neumann was responsible for manufacturing the actual DMM cutting equipment as part of their VMS80 series lathes. Unlike conventional disc mastering, where the mechanical audio modulation is cut onto a lacquer-coated aluminum disc, DMM cuts straight into metal (copper), utilizing a high frequency carrier system and specialized styli.
