Coming in the deluxe 7" packaging we've become accustomed to with FTD this release is another stunner. The sound quality is universally excellent throughout. Snap this one up, you won't be disappointed!

Elvis : Peace In The Valley (The Complete Gospel Recordings) is a long overdue triple CD release. In 1994 we were treated to the excellent double album 'Amazing Grace' and more recently to a number of good (if forgettable) mid-price gospel albums. This set is a fitting testament to an often under-appreciated segment of Elvis' incredible musical legacy. Many fans will be surprised at the breadth of tracks on this release.

FTD's version of Good Times turns out to be a fine upgrade of the original album, truly capturing the spirit of a collectors label by bringing the original cuts together in pristine sound quality along with tons of additional takes. Ten years in, FTD seems to have hit its stride, and its Classic Album series has become essential.

Nevada Nights is an excellent FTD double delight and a chance for fans to obtain these shows in the best sound. The sound features Elvis sort of somewhat up close, up front sort of between Fort Baxter and the DAE sound - listenable and warm to the ear ... A great release!. This review, originally published in 2008, we present to you again as it contains many unique songs along with dialogue from Elvis, making it an essential part of any fans collection ... This first CD features the famous opening night : August 19, 1974, where Elvis departed from the conventional opening - not starting with Also Sprach Zarathustra or See See Rider - instead opening with Big Boss Man - and including many songs he had not performed live before.

If you are old enough to remember the original broadcast of Elvis Presley's Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite, then it is a safe bet that you are over the age of 40. It was almost exactly 40 years ago that the huge event was first shown on American television, on April 4, 1973. [With the live broadcast to much of the rest of the world on January 14, 1973] To celebrate this momentous anniversary, RCA Legacy have just released the double-CD commemorative package of Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite. There is no question that this is the definitive edition, and Elvis Presley was absolutely in top form on both nights. For the curious, Aloha From Hawaii is not a bad place to start to see for themselves just what all the fuss was (and remains) all about.

Why can't all music releases be this good? Sony/RCA/Legacy have come up trumps with Prince From Another Planet - an Elvis release which celebrates The King's only New York concerts, in Madison Square Garden in the summer of 1972. What most impresses about this set is the packaging. The care and attention that has gone into creating an eight-inch square slipcase, (with the original design respected) a six panel gatefold wallet holding the discs (again with superb artwork) and a 52-page booklet that is everything you want to accompany an archival release - fantastic photography, reproductions of original newspaper reviews, an absorbing essay ... The CD audio in this deluxe edition has been remixed by Michael H. Brauer (mastered by Vic Anesini), the idea being to put the listener in row four of the audience, right in front of the performance ...

On first opening Prince From Another Planet' I was first surprised and then delighted by what I found. While the layout images presented prior to release were very good I was expecting a large 'digi-pack', and while that would have been very nice, the 'box set' presentation that Sony have clearly gone to a lot of trouble to produce is something extra special. Now the important stuff : How does it sound?

This concert has been a pleasure to repeat listen too. Thus I must recommend I'll Remember You, not really for any content (as it's the same as Aloha From Hawaii) with 'Until its Time' swapped from 'Burning Love' and it is an extremely short show too, but for the sound quality clear throughout!

Review of the FTD release, Back In Memphis, by Troy Yeary. When I first heard the original 'Back In Memphis', over twenty years ago, I was surprised by my disappointment. After listening to this expanded FTD release of the album, I am surprised yet again. Not by disappointment this time, but by how much I enjoyed it.

Receiving both the Follow That Dream CDs, Back In Memphis and 3000 South Paradise Road on Friday I would have thought that 'Back In Memphis' would have been first into the CD player but possibly taken by the stunning artwork I decided to play '3000 South Paradise Road' and I found that it not only contains a brilliant performance by Elvis but quality sound to match, which in particular did more than surprise me. This is a unique performance by Elvis with stand out songs, What Now My Love, My Way, An American Trilogy and Fever ... of particular interest are Elvis' comments after My Way, where he says 'that's a very good song ... I wouldn't want to associate it with my own personal life ... now the end is near and all that jazz... it's a nice song, it's okay for Sinatra but ... I haven't even ate it up and spit it out yet, still chewing on it ...

It seems like every great artist has at least one album in their catalogue that is universally ignored due to the greatness of the album that proceeded it. January and February of 1969 is a month that occupies a special place in rock history, specifically 6 days in January and 5 days in February.

FTD's treatment of Elvis Sings The Wonderful World Of Christmas, released this month with the help of outtakes not being overdubbed in any way ... reveals a more intimate and sensitive side of the Christmas recordings that took place in Nashville during two nights in May, 1971. When released on the original album back in 1971, Felton Jarvis had just about used every trick in the book when it came to making overdubs on If I Get Home On Christmas Day, adding strings, horns and a lot of backing vocals, creating what I like to call a 'bombastic Elvis sound'. Listening to the alternate takes, especially the early ones, you can almost be fooled into thinking it's another song, it sounds so much more intimate. Read the review and view cover art ...

Elvis Sings The Blues ... is a perfect combination making for one very nice listening experience ... The producers of this release also clearly recognized that it was going to be something special and have produced a stunningly beautiful three panel digi-pack, the front cover is ART and it fits the theme perfectly, as does the disc which while not a 'picture disc' as such there has clearly been much though and work put into the design. In addition on opening the flap you will find excellent liner notes ... A wonderful release of the 'classic' 1980 LP done to perfection like no other label can ... This is a limited edition digipack of 500 copies.

Yesterday, [August 25] Sony Music Australia's Elvis By Request: The Australian Fan Edition arrived here - so I thought I'd take a few moments to present a brief review. Worldwide, but with a special emphasis on Australia, fans were able to select from over 800 Elvis performances in online voting earlier this year. The ranked results of that voting determined the contents of 'Elvis By Request', 40 songs spread over two CDs.

Despite performing more than 1,000 shows between 1969-1977, there are several concerts which stand out among Elvis fans for one reason or another. One of those concerts was a one-time only performance in Boston during the fall of 1971. For many years, this historic and rare concert made the rounds on the import release circuit in varying degrees of sound quality. But thanks to the good folks at the 'Follow That Dream' (FTD) Collector's Label, Elvis fans can now enjoy the ultimate release of this fine performance.

'... this might be the best thing any Presley has done since Suspicious Minds' ... Now that is one hell of a statement, and Elvis fans will beg to differ, but taken in context it is a fair summation of what is truly a magnificent album, and one that declares Lisa Marie Presley as a major recording star in her own right. Working with an all-cult-star team of collaborators Lisa Marie Presley has come back with a superior, Americana-styled effort that leaves her earlier, slicker, ill-considered musical efforts in the dust.

One of the most interesting things to hear as you listen to these performances is the confidence that Elvis clearly gains with each appearance, becoming more assertive and aggressive as he performs for the fans. Along with Elvis' increasing level of comfort, it's also interesting to hear the fan reactions with each subsequent appearance. From polite applause for his first appearance to outright pandemonium by the time he gave his final performance, listeners can clearly hear the increased excitement that Elvis caused ... The CD also contains the recent discovery of Elvis' last performance on the Louisiana Hayride in December 1956 as released on Sony's Young man With The Big Beat. This will be a more complete version of the show and for the first time, be speed and pitch corrected, which Sony has failed to master for their release.

After hearing The 8th Wonder Of The World CD from Venus we can now tell you that indeed the sound quality is certainly better, even more clear than Madison’s outing and the packaging is much better. Te unique aspect of this concert in the huge Houston Astrodome is this that it is without an orchestra.
So it's pure Elvis with his band. taken from a first generation sources claimed!!!!

In 1979 Joan Deary had an idea for a unique concept album. The idea was to release an album featuring Elvis' recordings stripped down to basics ... the 'Pure Elvis Sound'. Many fans had commented that Elvis' later recordings suffered from too much overdubbing or 'sweetening', often causing Elvis' vocal performances to be buried beneath lavish, often over-the-top orchestral productions. The 'Our Memories Of Elvis' series has been long out of print. But now, thanks to the good folks at Follow That Dream (FTD) Records, Elvis' fans can stroll down memory lane once again with their release, 'Our Memories Of Elvis': Volumes 1, 2 & 3.

In early 1975, despite Elvis' clearly fading desire to record new material (he hadn't recorded a new studio album since 1973), Elvis managed to step up to the challenge one more time. Elvis Today, released in 2005 by the Follow That Dream (FTD) Collector's Label provides fans with 2-CD's packed with all of the known material recorded between March 10-12, 1975 for the Today album in their Classic album series.

Harley Payette explains why he thinks that the I'm 10,000 Years Old : Elvis Country' album 'tells us as much about the man who created it as anything he ever did'. In January 1971, RCA records slipped its latest Elvis Presley LP on the market, not two months after the previous one. That record, 'I'm 10,000 Years Old: Elvis Country', the singer's 30th of original material (excluding live collections, compilations and greatest hits sets), wasn't just another Elvis LP. It was an honest to gosh concept LP. The songs were not only linked stylistically and thematically, but all the performances were linked by splices of a song interspersed between each number. Even the cover wasn't the usual head shot of a smiling Elvis, concert pose, or movie still. In their place was a sepia toned photo of a very familiar looking young boy, Elvis Presley aged two.

I sometimes 'cheat' when I receive a classic album from FTD, playing the second disc with the outtakes first. Elvis (Fool) was no exception. I love the feeling of 'being thrown' into the studio, and this time around the first thing I heard was James Burton and Chip Young picking out the intro to '(That's What You Get) For Lovin' Me' and Felton Jarvis asking drummer Jerry Carrigan something about which cymbal he'll use ...

I would like to say the MRS / JAT Productions release of The Complete Louisiana Hayride Archives 1954-1956 CD is a dream come true but I can't as there was no anticipation something like this would ever be released. For years now we have had the basic el cheapo compilation of the basic tracks but now we have a full CD with a running time of over 75 minutes that gives a very good overview of Elvis in concert in the 1950s.

I've just finished listening to the new Venus release - 'Unedited Masters : Nashville 1970' and what a treat it is! Continuing the same theme as their last release 'Unedited Masters : Stax 1973' this contains mainly overdubbed masters in exceptional sound quality, which were either edited or faded for their official releases but are heard here for the first time in their entirety. The G.I. Blues : The Cafe Europa Sessions 4 CD Deluxe Set lived up to the pre-release publicity, in fact MRS sold themselves short in their description of the set !!! Cafe Europa is genuinely like a hardcover book with proper binding ... Putting the book 'aside', the four CDs contain nearly 4 hours of Elvis' officially UNRELEASED studio takes from the 'Café Europa' sessions, recorded for the movie ultimately titled G.I. Blues. The audio contained here includes the master recordings from the original soundtrack album 'G.I. Blues' plus, hours of alternate takes of all songs, with all the Elvis studio banter intact and, instilling new insight and live atmosphere into the complete making of this historic movie soundtrack.

The first two discs (40:21 and 54:51) included the remastered versions of the albums 'Elvis Presley' and 'Elvis', as well as 15 songs released as singles. Instant classics were 'Blue Suede Shoes', 'Heartbreak Hotel', 'My Baby Left Me', 'Lawdy, Miss Clawdy', Hound Dog', 'Don't Be Cruel', 'Any Way You Want Me' and 'Love Me Tender'. The non-hits are very worthwhile too. This set shows Presley was very good from the start, no matter what type of music he performed. She can see traces of his future religious music in 'I'm Counting on You' and movie soundtrack sin the jaunty 'Let Me'. He even is masterful on 'Old Shep', a weeper about having to put his old dog down, but being unable to do it. (In one of the interviews, Presley reveals that 'Old Shep' was the first song he ever performed in front of an audience.)

Here we have two Reviews of Rebooked and at the International ... we get superb sound and more of a concert feel with much Elvis dialogue originally cut - here for the first time. ... I am incredibly glad I took the plunge and invested in this release. The content (released and unreleased) is top notch and presented well, and great care was obviously taken in packaging, graphic design, and acquiring rare photos (and excellent sources for them). They don't come around like this every day. This is a release worthy of the engagement it represents. '... you won't listen to the Sony 'On Stage' release ever again after hearing this ...'

To hear again in proper historical context what Presley did naturally to material by Big Joe Turner (Shake Rattle & Roll), Carl Perkins (Blue Suede Shoes), Ray Charles (I Got A Woman), Little Richard (Tutti Frutti) and Rodgers & Hart's 1934 Blue Moon is to realize the extent of his interpretive genius. And how much more self-assured he sounds on Disc #2! It's like night and day. Read the review, View the promo video, Buy this limited set.

The July 1, 1974 concert included with the new FTD book release, Fashion For A King proves that you do not have to have a stereo recording to have A grade sound quality. And this soundboard recorded concert is in A grade sound quality and it also may just about present us with Elvis' best concert performance from 1974, to my ears it is anyway. The sound is crystal clear and Elvis is in top vocal form, he certainly gives a far better overall performance, in my opinion, than the famous Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis concert recorded just three months prior ... The book is stunning ... a photo book ... also a tremendous photo book detailing Elvis' jumpsuit's and a detailed information book and then it is of course a great reference book ...

The 96th release from the FTD label - Chicago Stadium - is a fantastic time capsule of a much healthier, more focused Elvis as he began the final quarter of 1976 with a renewed sense of performing enthusiasm and that excitement comes through clearly both in Elvis' performance as well as the fan's reactions. All Elvis fans should dust off a space of honor on their shelf for Chicago Stadium!! Both shows on Chicago Stadium are taken directly from the RCA soundboard tapes and are in great quality. Elvis : The Gospel Collection is a great collection of gospel songs. The CD has 16 selections, both studio and live versions of How Great Thou Art and a couple of surprises. The first is the live medley of three gospel songs, not available elsewhere in this sequence, Help Me; Why Me Lord; How Great Thou Art and O Little Town of Bethlehem is from the Elvis Christmas Duets CD with Karen Fairchild & Kimberly Schlapman (uncredited). Taken as a whole, Elvis As Recorded At Boston Garden '71 is a strong release. Concerts probably should not be picked apart song-by-song as I have done here, as it is the overall experience that counts. Elvis more than delivers a fantastic show. This is one of many concerts where I find myself wishing that I could have somehow been there. The sound quality is impressive, considering that it is a soundboard recording. I love how FTD tied in the album art with the Elvis As Recorded At Madison Square Garden album. The liner notes and photos by Avenell give this release a personal feel and warmth. The third CD from the 'Welcome To The Jungle' series is an essential release! First of all the soundquality on this third release is nothing less than excellent just as it was on their first two releases of the series with recordings from the Jungle room sessions. More than that we get around 20 minutes of unreleased studio material which is quite an art nowadays! On top of it all we do get a nice designed product with a 16-page booklet and very well written liner-notes. Way to go, VENUS! Highly recommended!
