FTD (Follow That Dream), Sony BMG's Official Elvis Presley Collectors label was estabished in 1999 to serve the dedicated Elvis collector and to complement the commercial and artistic level of RCA's retail release schedule by issuing repertoire that is considered of interest to serious Elvis fans and collectors, material that is generally not part of mainstream RCA label releases to the public at large.
There are the original Collectors CD's with CDs ranging from soundboard recorded concerts (Recorded from the mixing desk in mono) to full RCA professionally recorded concerts in stereo and some great alternate take CDs - Such as The Jungle Room Sessions and Memphis Sessions etc, later FTD introduced the Elvis Classic Album Series where they release the original Elvis albums in deluxe 7" size packaging with a booklet and a usually a second CD of out takes from the same period as the recordings on the album. There is also the Movie Soundtrack Series usually released as a single CD but again in deluxe 7" packaging with booklet.

FTD's version of Good Times turns out to be a fine upgrade of the original album, truly capturing the spirit of a collectors label by bringing the original cuts together in pristine sound quality along with tons of additional takes. Ten years in, FTD seems to have hit its stride, and its Classic Album series has become essential.

... Promised Land is without a doubt one of the best releases from the Follow That Dream label this year. It's one that I will return to many times, together with Good Times and Raised On Rock, the other two classic albums making up what could be called 'The Stax Trilogy'... Highly recommended.

Nevada Nights is an excellent FTD double delight and a chance for fans to obtain these shows in the best sound. The sound features Elvis sort of somewhat up close, up front sort of between Fort Baxter and the DAE sound - listenable and warm to the ear ... A great release!. This review, originally published in 2008, we present to you again as it contains many unique songs along with dialogue from Elvis, making it an essential part of any fans collection ... This first CD features the famous opening night : August 19, 1974, where Elvis departed from the conventional opening - not starting with Also Sprach Zarathustra or See See Rider - instead opening with Big Boss Man - and including many songs he had not performed live before.

This concert has been a pleasure to repeat listen too. Thus I must recommend I'll Remember You, not really for any content (as it's the same as Aloha From Hawaii) with 'Until its Time' swapped from 'Burning Love' and it is an extremely short show too, but for the sound quality clear throughout!

FTD's treatment of Elvis Sings The Wonderful World Of Christmas, released this month with the help of outtakes not being overdubbed in any way ... reveals a more intimate and sensitive side of the Christmas recordings that took place in Nashville during two nights in May, 1971. When released on the original album back in 1971, Felton Jarvis had just about used every trick in the book when it came to making overdubs on If I Get Home On Christmas Day, adding strings, horns and a lot of backing vocals, creating what I like to call a 'bombastic Elvis sound'. Listening to the alternate takes, especially the early ones, you can almost be fooled into thinking it's another song, it sounds so much more intimate. Read the review and view cover art ...

Despite performing more than 1,000 shows between 1969-1977, there are several concerts which stand out among Elvis fans for one reason or another. One of those concerts was a one-time only performance in Boston during the fall of 1971. For many years, this historic and rare concert made the rounds on the import release circuit in varying degrees of sound quality. But thanks to the good folks at the 'Follow That Dream' (FTD) Collector's Label, Elvis fans can now enjoy the ultimate release of this fine performance.

In 1979 Joan Deary had an idea for a unique concept album. The idea was to release an album featuring Elvis' recordings stripped down to basics ... the 'Pure Elvis Sound'. Many fans had commented that Elvis' later recordings suffered from too much overdubbing or 'sweetening', often causing Elvis' vocal performances to be buried beneath lavish, often over-the-top orchestral productions. The 'Our Memories Of Elvis' series has been long out of print. But now, thanks to the good folks at Follow That Dream (FTD) Records, Elvis' fans can stroll down memory lane once again with their release, 'Our Memories Of Elvis': Volumes 1, 2 & 3.

'They' say 'don't judge a book by its cover, but you can with King Creole Frame by Frame, it is a fine book and an equally fine start to the FTD, 'Elvis In Hollywood' book series. This release offers anyone interested in the movie a fantastic photographic and written word account. In early 1975, despite Elvis' clearly fading desire to record new material (he hadn't recorded a new studio album since 1973), Elvis managed to step up to the challenge one more time. Elvis Today, released in 2005 by the Follow That Dream (FTD) Collector's Label provides fans with 2-CD's packed with all of the known material recorded between March 10-12, 1975 for the Today album in their Classic album series.

Harley Payette explains why he thinks that the I'm 10,000 Years Old : Elvis Country' album 'tells us as much about the man who created it as anything he ever did'. In January 1971, RCA records slipped its latest Elvis Presley LP on the market, not two months after the previous one. That record, 'I'm 10,000 Years Old: Elvis Country', the singer's 30th of original material (excluding live collections, compilations and greatest hits sets), wasn't just another Elvis LP. It was an honest to gosh concept LP. The songs were not only linked stylistically and thematically, but all the performances were linked by splices of a song interspersed between each number. Even the cover wasn't the usual head shot of a smiling Elvis, concert pose, or movie still. In their place was a sepia toned photo of a very familiar looking young boy, Elvis Presley aged two.

I sometimes 'cheat' when I receive a classic album from FTD, playing the second disc with the outtakes first. Elvis (Fool) was no exception. I love the feeling of 'being thrown' into the studio, and this time around the first thing I heard was James Burton and Chip Young picking out the intro to '(That's What You Get) For Lovin' Me' and Felton Jarvis asking drummer Jerry Carrigan something about which cymbal he'll use ...

Review of Follow That Dream Records' latest release, Stage Rehearsal ... However, I can understand and appreciate their desire to make this a quality listening experience. After all, we were Elvis listeners prior to becoming Elvis historians! In this case, entertainment value won out over historic context. A look at Elvis' Guitar Man Sessions with Jerry Reed. Jerry Reed immediately took over the session, you can hear it from the first notes of the first take - Reed is coaching the musicians, encouraging them, egging them on, with Felton happy just to be presiding over some thing that is actually happening. There is a bright, shimmering surface to the music different in many respects from anything Elvis has ever recorded before but providing, at the same time, the kind of churning, driving rhythm that has characterized Elvis' music from the first. There is not the slightest question of Elvis' engagement. There is no self-deprecation, there is no wisecracking; all of the singer's attention is focused on the music. Completely updated.

The 96th release from the FTD label - Chicago Stadium - is a fantastic time capsule of a much healthier, more focused Elvis as he began the final quarter of 1976 with a renewed sense of performing enthusiasm and that excitement comes through clearly both in Elvis' performance as well as the fan's reactions. All Elvis fans should dust off a space of honor on their shelf for Chicago Stadium!! Both shows on Chicago Stadium are taken directly from the RCA soundboard tapes and are in great quality. Rolling Stone [2011] gives Elvis Is Back! a whopping 4.5 stars and says 'Recorded when Presley, was 25, fresh off a. two-year military stint and musically fit. to burst, Elvis Is Back! might be the King's greatest non-compilation LP: wildly varied material, revelatory singing, impeccable stereo sound'. The best way to buy this classic album is in the form of the Official Elvis Presley Collectors Label double CD Special Edition complete with original album, all the singles recorded at the sessions in March and April 1960 and importantly multiple alternate takes where you can hear very strong alternate versions while at the same time listening to Elvis produce this important album, and the worldwide hit singles, It's Now Or Never, Stuck On You etc.

Taken as a whole, Elvis As Recorded At Boston Garden '71 is a strong release. Concerts probably should not be picked apart song-by-song as I have done here, as it is the overall experience that counts. Elvis more than delivers a fantastic show. This is one of many concerts where I find myself wishing that I could have somehow been there. The sound quality is impressive, considering that it is a soundboard recording. I love how FTD tied in the album art with the Elvis As Recorded At Madison Square Garden album. The liner notes and photos by Avenell give this release a personal feel and warmth. A must-have for fellow fans of the era.

Elvis Presley's self-titled first LP is unarguably one of the most important albums in rock history. Not only is it the first album by the genre's most successful and influential figure, but it is also the first genuine smash LP of the rock era. Its success in the spring and summer of 1956 would signal that it would be the long player and not the single that would come to dominate the sixties and onwards.

Perhaps the best part of FTD's 'Elvis Now' is that every song sounds better than it ever has before. If you love Elvis in the 1969 - 1971 era represented by this album and care about audio quality, you will be thrilled with these sound upgrades - particularly on the master takes. Kudos to FTD for much improvement in this area over the years. 'Elvis Now' is a different kind of listening experience than that of From Elvis In Memphis or That's The Way It Is. While those two albums are monumental, their greatness should not take away from the understated achievement that Elvis Now represents. Buy Elvis Now. Now!

I Sing All Kinds is a marvelous release that makes for rewarding listening. The song selection and order works well ... we in effect get Elvis' greatest songs of 1971 on one album, and what an album it turns out to be! Sometimes living a long life has its rewards. Living to see this superb FTD album is surely one of them. Shorn of the intrusive post production dubs, orchestration and background harmonies of the original releases, and given some inspired sound mixing, the songs on this FTD release are a joy to listen to.

Blue Hawaii is rightfully placed at the top of the Elvis Presley movie list. Both the soundtrack and film are truly essential Elvis. They both represent the Elvis that we would like to remember. Another fabulous soundtrack release from FTD, The alternate 'album' of First Takes works extremely well and the packaging is very stylish. The newly remixed audio quality is astounding - especially on the outtakes. With this release FTD corrects the error with the 1997 issued CD where they incorrectly reversed the stereo channels.

Personally I have always reckoned that Elvis was at the top of his vocal powers in AD 1960. He had superb vocal control and exceptional range and he had improved vocally at least from the rawness (albeit a very very appealing rawness) of the 1950's. This is a tremendous collection of stunning ballads and the rocking 'I slipped I stumbled I fell'. The outtakes are interesting and I haven't got tired of listening to 27 versions of 5 songs. Interestingly 'Husky Dusky Day' also appears and though very short (50 seconds) it is quite an amusing little ditty sung in duet with the lovely Hope Lang. One of the best FTD releases by far!

There have been a lot of 'rehearsal' Elvis CDs to come out, but this one, apropriatly titled, Elvis On Tour : The Rehearsals is by far the best. First of all, it almost sounds like a studio album. The songs are mostly complete without a bunch of mistakes and a do-overs and most sound really great. There isn't any joking around, each track pretty much jumps strait to the next song.

The Made In Memphis FTD CD is another in an extended string of vault excavations from Elvis Presley's apparently inexhaustible library of alternate, unused, and unfinished takes, to be issued by the custom label Follow That Dream through RCA-BMG. For starters, as with many of the unused takes, because there's been no dubbing or the loss of even a single generation, you get a much closer sound than on most of Elvis' released recordings, even the properly remastered editions.

Spinout! This is a great album, a wonderful listening experience. From the classic title track and the lovely ballads such as 'Am I Ready' and 'All That I Am' to the great rock numbers 'Never Say Yes' and 'I'll Be Back' there appears to be something for everybody in this package. 'Never Say Yes' is a wonderful song and is even more enjoyable when heard on its out-take forms and alos do treat yourself to the out-take of the ballad 'Am I Ready', you will find it fuller and, even it is hard to admit, better than the original take on many levels.

Follow That Dream records, the collectors division of RCA have done it again with another superb re-packaging in their latest series of original LP re-issues. Turning their attention to the 1967 'Clambake' movie soundtrack. Not a classic film by any accounts, it came from a very low period in Elvis' movie career, probably the lowest in fact as Elvis became physically ill during production and sruggled to motivate himself for this one.

The 'bonus' track is THE performance highlight from his Hampton Roads show two days later (by which time he had the Flu!) thankfully it's a reasonably performed 'request' for the 'Return To Sender' fan Club and I'm sure they must have been delighted. I recommend this CD because the performance is just passable from a dreadful tour and the sound balance is impressive in its clarity - far easier on the ears than listening to FTD America. I'll certainly be playing this New Haven '76 CD a few times before I stack it away on the shelf.

If, like me, you want to collect all of the material from the 1969 Vegas engagement, the first disc is basically a backup copy of tracks you already own, while the second disc is the must-have portion. Still not a bad deal, as the price is the same as buying a single-disc FTD release anyway. If, on the other hand, you are an Elvis fan who has not been exposed to this material very much before, then you are in for a real treat. Between the two discs on this Elvis In Person Special Edition 2 CD set, you will have at least one version of every song released from this engagement thus far. Sit back, crank it up, and enjoy!

How do you follow up an album like From Elvis In Memphis and the singles and follow up album that flowed from the 1969 recording sessions at Chip's Moman's Memphis American Sound Studio's? In February 1970 RCA recorded Elvis live in Las Vegas and released the classic live album, On Stage, but it was not until June of that year that Elvis re-entered a studio to cut an album proper. Elvis Country was the result, released in January 1971, it was Elvis' only real concept album and in my opinion does rate as Elvis best album.

As you can tell, most of the songs on Elvis Sings Memphis, Tennessee are top-notch recordings that deserved better than being used as B-Sides and album fillers. If you think of 1963 and 1964 as wasted years in Elvis' recording career due to the movie soundtracks, then this album may come as a revelation to you. Despite the movie tunes, Elvis was also busy cranking out great material in Nashville. If you enjoy Elvis Sings Memphis, Tennessee, be sure to find a copy of From Nashville To Memphis if you don't already own it. That was the first release that debunked my own delusions that most of Elvis' 1960s recordings were worthless.

Elvis Presley was discharged from the army on March 5, 1960 - His first album Elvis Is Back may have been the most important album of his career. There had been several releases while he was in the service, but he had been out of the public eye. His young fans were now a couple of years older. Things change quickly within the music world and fame can be fleeting. Did Elvis still have it? The answer was a resounding yes.

'That's The Way It Is' and 'Elvis Country' were two of the most artistic albums in Elvis' career. What makes them special, is a true concept behind the selection of the songs. 'Love Letters' could not live up to this high standard, since it was a strange mixture of songs, that could not make it on the 'TTWII' and 'Country' releases in the first place, for reasons of available time, quality or strategy. However it is and does deserve to be a popular album in it's own right. The concept of eleven love-letters doesn't really fit to these songs, still this album is one of the most loved-ones among Elvis fans. These three albums certainly belong together, and the FTD crew once again proves its love for the artist Elvis Presley, by releasing all three albums within the same year ('Elvis Country' has already been announced), without even needing a 40th anniversary for this project.

1964 was a very busy year for Elvis Presley. Three movies, two soundtracks, one EP, assorted singles, his pursuit of Priscilla, and a public affair left very little time for anything else. Well, well, well. RCA/BMG's 'collector's only' label, Follow That Dream, issues another keeper with their third effort. Some of the most enchanting Elvis moments are where he sings along with his own guitar or piano, as on the 1953 'My Happiness' Sun demo or the staggering 1966 home tape of 'If I Loved You'. 'In A Private Moment' unleashes more home demos, from Germany in '59 and Los Angeles in '60 and '66, and both the soul and earthy humor of the man come shining through.

The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people.
