It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of original Sweet Inspirations member Sylvia Shemwell. Sylvia passed away on February 13, 2010. Sylvia suffered a stroke in 2001 forcing her to stop touring with the group and her recovery had been slow, with her ability to speak and sing greatly compromised. Sylvia will be remembered fondly by millions of Elvis fans all over the world.

The new Elvis Presley show for 2010 is a classy and dynamic tribute that incorporates The King's greatest performances like 'Suspicious Minds', 'All Shook Up', 'Return To Sender' and many, many others. Leadsinger Robert Washington's electrifying vocals capture the raw power and intensity of 'the real thing', while the inclusion of Elvis associates Duke Bardwell on bass and Michael Jarrett on keyboards add a great deal of authenticity to this remarkable show. This remarkable show is not to be missed!

A spark that helped ignite Elvis Presley's fame more than 50 years ago was lit by the newspaper editors and critics who hated him. A new exhibit opening March 19 traces Elvis' rise in the 1950s - in part a study in image management by his longtime manager, Col. Tom Parker - to his meeting with President Richard Nixon at the White House in 1970. It will include rare objects from Presley's life, some never before displayed outside of Graceland and others never before publicly displayed anywhere.

It was with Presley that Aaron Schroeder had his greatest success, co-writing no fewer than five chart-topping hits for the singer. A Big Hunk o' Love in 1959 was followed in 1960 with Stuck on You and It's Now or Never, which Schroeder and his co-writer Wally Gold based on the Italian standard O Sole Mio. Good Luck Charm went to No 1 in 1962 and finally I Got Stung, originally a 1958 B-side, made No 1 in Britain on its re-release in 2005.

Personally I have always reckoned that Elvis was at the top of his vocal powers in AD 1960. He had superb vocal control and exceptional range and he had improved vocally at least from the rawness (albeit a very very appealing rawness) of the 1950's. This is a tremendous collection of stunning ballads and the rocking 'I slipped I stumbled I fell'. The outtakes are interesting and I haven't got tired of listening to 27 versions of 5 songs. Interestingly 'Husky Dusky Day' also appears and though very short (50 seconds) it is quite an amusing little ditty sung in duet with the lovely Hope Lang. One of the best FTD releases by far!

This is without doubt the best Elvis Presley photo book I have seen. It covers in great style, Elvis' life in Las Vegas from 1956 to 1976 in pictures.

The Mercury newspapers Sunday Edition - The Sunday Tasmanian, has run a CD review of the Elvis Presley: 50 Australian Top Ten Hits 1956-1977 on Sunday February 7, 2010. The review by Jarrad Bevan, titled, 'When Elvis Ruled Our Charts' takes up half a page and is in the eGuide Music section on page 22. The CD is rated 4 stars out of 5. 'Listening to these CDs, it's obvious why he was such a huge success and is still adored. Elvis's sound was a blueprint for what would come later, built on a base of Delta blues and hip-shaking gospel. Elvis changed everything: sex, politics and especially music'.
