'A Date With Elvis' 60th-anniversary edition of 2000 individually numbered copies is available on transparent blue vinyl. 'A Date With Elvis' is Elvis Presley's eighth album originally released in July 1959. It is a compilation of previously unreleased material from an August 1956 recording session at 20th Century Fox Stage One, two sessions from Radio Recorders in Hollywood, and multiple sessions at Sun Studio.

Wink Martindale had no idea his life would forever change when he met a truck driver named Elvis Presley in 1954. After listening to the aspiring singer's new track titled 'That's All Right Mama', the radio and game show personality knew there was something magical occurring. And sure enough, Presley quickly transformed into the king of rock 'n' roll. But despite Elvis' reign in both music and Hollywood, the iconic performer passed away on Aug. 16, 1977, at age 42 from a heart attack. Martindale, 85, spoke to Fox News about how he met his beloved pal, their heartbreaking final meeting and how he continues to pursue his own passion to entertain others.

Dressed in a chic black tunic and bell bottoms that matched his long but neatly combed black-tinted hair. Elvis Presley stepped onstage last week at the International Hotel in Las Vegas and launched into the driving beat of 'Blue Suede Shoes'. The audience of 2,000, most of them over 30, roared and squealed in nostalgic appreciation. In spite of his updated look, Elvis hadn't changed at all in the nearly nine years since his last personal appearance. Shaking, gyrating and quivering, he again proved himself worthy of his nickname, The Pelvis. Through nervousness caused him to sing 'Love my, me tender' for 'Love Me Tender', the pasty-faced enchanter quickly settled down to work his oleaginous charms, backed by a 30-piece orchestra, a five-man combo and a chorus of seven. Oozing the sullen sexuality that threw the America into a state of shock in the 50's, he groaned and swiveled through a medley of 'Jailhouse Rock', 'Don't Be Cruel', 'Heartbreak Hotel', 'All Shook Up' and 'Hound Dog'.

The I'm 10,000 Years Old : Elvis Country' album 'tells us as much about the man who created it as anything he ever did'. In January 1971, RCA records slipped its latest Elvis Presley LP on the market, not two months after the previous one. That record, 'I'm 10,000 Years Old: Elvis Country', the singer's 30th of original material (excluding live collections, compilations and greatest hits sets), wasn't just another Elvis LP. It was an honest to gosh concept LP. The songs were not only linked stylistically and thematically, but all the performances were linked by splices of a song interspersed between each number. Even the cover wasn't the usual head shot of a smiling Elvis, concert pose, or movie still. In their place was a sepia toned photo of a very familiar looking young boy, Elvis Presley aged two.
1969 Studio & Live Boxset Collections With Unreleased Material this August
Three new Elvis Presley collections are on the way. The largest of the bunch, Live 1969, celebrates the 50th anniversary of Elvis' 57-show residency at Las Vegas' International Hotel. The 11xCD set features unreleased material and comes with a 52-page booklet with photos, memorabilia, and an oral history. Live 1969 comes out on August 9 (via RCA/Legacy). Also on August 9, RCA and Legacy will release a 2xLP called Live at the International Hotel, Las Vegas, NV August 26, 1969. It features the complete set from Presley's August 26 midnight show. Then, on August 23, Follow That Dream (FTD) will release Elvis: American Sound 1969, a 5 CD collection of rare and unreleased recordings from Elvis Presley's sessions at American Sound Studio.

He never expressed any particular interest in the land 'down under' He was essentially a Memphis boy who, apart from his brief stint in the army in Germany, liked to stay in the Deep South and to spend his time in Graceland. Not many people realize this, but when Kurt Russell was 10 years old, he was able to act alongside the King himself, Elvis Presley in 'It Happened at the World's Fair'. 'It was my first brush with a real celebrity. I've never seen anything having to do with a real celebrity before. I didn't really know who Elvis Presley was. I was a 10 year old kid. I knew Elvis Presley was a name that everybody knew. If I'd seen him, I didn't know it. I wasn't into music and I didn't listen to music that much. So the first time he came on the set, a car went on the set, round 100's of women just broke through there and jumped on his car.

The young fan was Kristen Peterson, daughter of actor Arthur Peterson, a veteran actor of radio and film, perhaps best known as 'The Major' on the quirky, cult-classic TV series 'Soap'. Kristen had a grand dream - to invite Elvis to her birthday party! Elvis was at the height of his pre-Army career in early 1957 and had to politely decline the invitation. Kristen's disappointment must have been mitigated somewhat by a telegram from the King of Rock and Roll, with the closing, 'All My Love, Elvis Presley'!

Elvis Presley's 1968 Cadillac Eldorado Coupe
The story behind Elvis Presley's 1968 Cadillac Eldorado Coupe is well known and it has an incredible history. Elvis Presley spotted this Topaz Gold Firemist beauty parked outside a Memphis Cadillac dealer showroom on December 28, 1967 and decided on the spot that he had to have it. He immediately made it his daily transportation and reportedly used the car for approximately thirteen months. At one point the car would not start and Elvis furthered his reputation for shooting displeasing inanimate objects by deploying his side-arm and plugging the car in the right front fender. The bullet hole still remains there today. Elvis drove the car up until the birth of his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, on February 1, 1968. A short time afterward, Elvis gave the Cadillac to Priscilla's (step)father as a gift.

She apparently took all the photos we have from this evening, and if we had a recording as well that would have been a dream come true. Elvis is just 19, and Sun 209 is burning up local radio and selling like hot cakes. His hair does seem a little lighter, than in other versions of the shot.

How we pack our Elvis Presley Vinyl LP Records
Recently I had cause to reevaluate boxes for sending LP Vinyl Records. What I found was all boxes specifically designed for records had variable reliability protecting the record if dropped on a corner. (Which can and does happen in transit). It depended a lot on the grade of the cardboard used and I found no 'off the shelf' supplier adequately covered. Recently we were out of record mailers so we used a BOX - and I do mean a 'box'!!! - one meant for sending wine bottles. I realized that this gave 100% protection.

Elvis was unable to get a copy of the film 'Star Wars' to view with his daughter Lisa Marie, so they watched the James Bond film 'The Spy Who Loved Me' instead. (Star Wars was released to theaters in the US on May 25, 1977) As they came home, Lisa was siting on Ginger Alden's lap, holding her bag of popcorn from the theater. The photo below, snapped just four days before his death is the last ever taken with his daughter Lisa Marie.

(UPI | Sept 16, 1975) - Elvis Presley, resting at home after hospitalization for an enlarged colon and fatigue, felt good enough Monday to go riding down Elvis Presley Boulevard with his girlfriend on twin 'funmobiles'. Presley, who usually shies away from interviews, encountered a photographer as he rode through his Graceland Mansion gates on a newly purchased, three-wheeled funmobile.

Ten years ago I researched this subject in depth with help from Ernst Jorgensen and through him Sony BMG and compiled a comprehensive report, which was published on this site. Hal Blaine has died
Hal Blaine, the Hall of Fame session drummer and virtual one-man soundtrack of the 1960s and '70s who played on the songs of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley on tracks like 'Return to Sender', 'Bossa Nova Baby', 'Viva Las Vegas' and the Beach Boys 'Good Vibrations' and laid down one of music's most memorable opening riffs on the Ronettes' 'Be My Baby', died Monday March 11.

Despite performing more than 1,000 shows between 1969-1977, there are several concerts which stand out among Elvis fans for one reason or another. One of those concerts was a one-time only performance in Boston during the fall of 1971. For many years, this historic and rare concert made the rounds on the import release circuit in varying degrees of sound quality. But thanks to the good folks at the 'Follow That Dream' (FTD) Collector's Label, Elvis fans can now enjoy the ultimate release of this fine performance. Despite the arguably poor quality of the packaging, the main attraction of Boston Garden '71 is clearly the concert performance. Although Elvis only performed once in the city of Boston, he did so with gusto! Thanks to the fine folks at FTD, Elvis As Recorded At Boston Garden '71 is a testament to the true concert genius of 'The King of Rock n' Roll' .. (and) a damn-near perfect Elvis concert!

Review | 'Glen Campbell Sings For The King' CD. Back in 1964, Elvis Presley was busy making movies, three that year including Kissin' Cousins, Viva Las Vegas, and Roustabout. That said, Presley was recording and releasing singles, including 'Viva Las Vegas', 'Kiss Me Quick', and 'Ain't That Lovin' You Baby' to modest sales. He was looking for a hit. At that time Glen Campbell was best-known for his work as a studio musician as part of the Wrecking Crew, who played on a slew of hits. He met Presley during the taping of the Viva Las Vegas soundtrack.

Now released, our order is on the way to us | Elvis: Made In Germany | The Complete Private Recordings is a 4CD/152-page book that contains more than 3 hours of all the private recordings Elvis made while off duty in Germany when he was serving as a soldier in the US army during the 1958-1960 period and, includes rare tracks from a recently discovered tape comprising over an hour of unheard personal recordings. The 152-page hardback book contains rare unpublished photographs and documents, complemented by a comprehensive text provided by Gordon Minto, which discusses each of Elvis' RCA studio (non-film) recording sessions held during 1957-58, before focusing on the private recordings he made in Germany. We have only a very small quantity remaining unsold.

The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
