Elvis : Return To Tupelo DVD is a 90 minute program and a wonderful insight into the personal life and early life of Elvis Presley. The filmmakers really brought home the conservatism of 'the' America that was in place at the time. The split between the races and the lingering post World War II poverty was all happening at the time. Elvis somehow got through the snares of being beyond impoverished from birth possibly because he knew nothing else save for the love of his tight-knit family anchored by his mother Gladys. He had a gift and all he knew is he loved to sing and share it. The chronicle of his family's rise from being beyond poor to when they were welcomed as the town's pride and joy in his 1956 return is amazing.

Elvis met Gene Vincent at least twice in 1956, once in New York on July 3, and again a few months later in Los Angeles. There are no photos of the chance July meeting at Penn Station, although Elvis mentions it in an interview about a week later. Bitsy And The King: Tupelo's Savery Was A Friend And Host To Elvis
Bitsy recalls the meal fondly. 'Mom had chosen not to put out place cards, so everyone chose their own seat. Usually when we ate dinner my dad would sit at one end of the table and my mom would sit at the other end. Her chair had a butterfly switch on the floor underneath that she could step on to ring and let the kitchen know if she needed something. 'As we were sitting down to dinner, my dad sat at his usual end of the table, but Gladys took her seat at the opposite end in the butterfly chair. Dad's eyes darted over to my mother silently urging her not to say anything to Gladys to avoid embarrassment. All of a sudden we heard a buzzing noise coming from the kitchen. It turns out; Gladys had accidentally stepped on the switch.

Sony Music will release Elvis Presley: The Searcher (The Original Soundtrack) on April 6 in three versions, a single CD, a Deluxe 3 CD set in 8"x 8" with a 40-page book in slipcase and a 2 LP Record set. The new multi-part documentary Elvis Presley: The Searcher, directed by Thom Zimny and airing on HBO on April 14, pushes past the larger-than-life image of The King of Rock and Roll, portraying him instead as a man and an artist 'who wanted to heal, to find that thing that was always felt to be missing, and to do it through the music'.
Elvis Presley: 'Rebel With A Cause '56' FTD Book and CD
Follow That Dream (FTD) will release, 'Rebel With A Cause '56' late February. The book will contain photos directly from the negatives and thus of remarkable quality! The book was compiled by David English and Pål Granlund. The photos show a twenty-one-year-old Elvis at the beginning of an impressive career that started with his first golden single in '56. The book is 312 pages and author David English notes that two more unseen photos from September 56, one of which shows Elvis paying to go into Malco Theatre just made it into the book before printing. the book will hopefully be out at the end of this month. The book will include an accompanying 32-track CD, 'Elvis Presley Rock N Roll No. 2'.
Lonnie Wolfe and Elvis Presley | U.S. Army Germany
Lonnie Wolfe was just a 17-year-old running away from home when he joined the U.S. Army in the late 1950s. Little did he know he would be sharing close quarters with every teen girl's heartthrob - Elvis Presley. Wolfe was assigned to one of 13 jeeps in his armory as a driver. Each jeep carried three soldiers, including the driver, who would go on reconnaissance missions. In Wolfe's jeep was Sgt. Elvis Presley and another soldier.

Pat Boone: I first met Elvis in Cleveland, Ohio. He was not very, he was not known really nationally at all. It was before Heartbreak Hotel, before Hound Dog, he had two or three country records, sort of 'rockabilly' we called them. And I'd seen his name on some jukeboxes in Texas, and made note of the name. But he couldn't be a pop artist, not in those days.

'Virginia Loves Elvis' DVD (Digitally Remastered) | Recorded live at Hampton Roads Coliseum. April 9, 1972. (8.30 pm). Hampton, VA. This digitally remastered set has been re-edited from scratch, including new angles and rare outtakes, presented in deluxe digipack, and full WIDESCREEN. They have presented the show in 16:9 ratio, which is quite impressive. There's some quality loss as most on stage footage was shot in 4:3 format but on my 55" screen it still looks very good and is something you can watch time and again. Some highlights are the COMPLETE versions of 'An American Trilogy' and 'Love Me Tender' and probably the winner would be 'How Great Thou Art' presented in MULTI ANGLES with some very rare footage, it brings it more 'alive' since you see both Elvis and The Stamps Quartet harmonizing the song!

Elvis' iconic special, 'Aloha from Hawaii', aired on January 14, 1973, and it was the first entertainment special by a solo artist to be broadcast live around the world. 1972 and 1973 were great years to be Elvis fans. In 1972, Elvis released the documentary 'Elvis on Tour', giving fans a good long look at his concerts and the work that went into producing them. In fact, the 'Aloha from Hawaii' concert was supposed to take place in November 1972, but MGM, who produced the documentary, feared it was too close to the movie's opening. 'Aloha' was pushed to January 1973. The November 1972 concerts happened, anyway, but they weren't filmed.

Peter Hann of 'It's Elvis Time' has Died
It is with great sadness that I write of the death of Peter Hann of the 'It's Elvis Time' fan club. Peter died on January 7 after battling ill health for some time. He was 72. Peter became a member of 'It's Elvis Time' in 1962, later becoming Club President in 1981. In 2010 his then girlfriend Freia succeeded him as President. I have known Peter for around 18 years and while we never met we did talk on the phone many times over the years. He was always a pleasure to work with, his honesty and easy-going approach made it easy to consider him a 'friend'. His death is a big loss to the 'Elvis world' and a very sad day at 'Elvis Australia'.

Review | Elvis : Good Rockin' Tonight mini-series (From 1990) DVD
A favorite show of mine growing up, and one that I have always wished would come out on DVD, is the short-lived 1990 ABC series Elvis-Good Rockin' Tonight. It only lasted for 10 episodes with three unaired episodes, and was later edited into one long, (4 hours) film' Elvis: The Early Years'. It follows a young Elvis from his days in Tupelo to the end of his days at Sun Records. The series stared Michael St Gerard, Jesse Dabson, Blake Gibbons, and Millie Perkins. I'm posting this here because I always hear people say 'well, they've made 'Walk The Line', and 'Ray' why has there never been a production on par with those two for Elvis? Well, there has! I've just received a bootleg of the series and I'd like to review all 13 episodes.

When HBO premieres Elvis Presley: The Searcher this spring, fans of the King will get an unprecedentedly deep look at his life and music, from his first forays into Memphis blues clubs to his early stardom, up through his late '60s comeback and exhausting '70s touring. The nearly three-and-a-half-hour-long, two-part documentary (which will also get a soundtrack released through Sony/Legacy) features new interviews with scholars, stars like Bruce Springsteen and the late Tom Petty, and -- most notably -- Priscilla Presley, who famously met the superstar when she was 14 and was married to him from 1967 to 1973.

The colorized version of 'Jailhouse Rock' has been released on bootleg DVD. The film has been transferred from the laserdisc release so quality is good. Also, the colorized version of 'Love Me Tender' been released on bootleg DVD. The film was released in Japan and has Japanese subtitles showing at all times.

This 'Elvis On Tour' Deluxe | 9 CD | Hardcover Book boxset set contains 4 concerts, 'Hampton Roads', 'Virginia' (Richmond), 'Virginia' (Greensboro), and 'San Antonio' on 4 CDs, plus 4 CDs of rehearsals and 1 CD of interviews with Elvis. The concerts, with one exception ('Hampton Roads'), are Stereo. And the rehearsals, again, with one exception ('Buffalo'), are Stereo. The interviews are mono. It is true, 'Elvis On Tour' has been given a complete lack of attention by both Sony and Warner. It is indeed a shame that so few quality releases have emerged. But now thanks to Amiga with this deluxe package, this is no longer the case. While many have speculated that the Follow That Dream (FTD) Collectors Label might close after 20 years in 2019, Ernst Jorgensen has strongly denied this stating that FTD has plans to continue for the foreseeable future. FTD was started in 1999 with its first release containing material from the second dressing room rehearsal for the '68 Comeback Special. The biggest selling title though is The Jungle Room Sessions.

Red West was working on an autobiography before his death last July. Co-author Jon W. Sparks has opened up on a few details with the book to be release later this year. Red West and Elvis Presley were friends ever since the day in high school when Red broke up a plan by some punks in the boys room to give shy outsider Elvis an unwanted haircut with a pair of scissors. Red, a burly athlete standing 6-1, told the bullies, 'You're gonna have to give me one first'. They tucked tails and skeedaddled.

Touched by Love [1980] is an uplifting true story of love, hope and devotion and its important message is one of the most important parts of Elvis' legacy, one that deserves to be remembered forever. The end statement of the film says it all: 'To Elvis Presley for his compassion and ability to spread joy'. The movie is based on the reminisces of a real-life person, Lena Canada, a therapist in charge of handicapped girl named Karen played by future star, Diane Lane. The acting is first rate, particularly Diane Lane, whose portrayal (and transformation) of Karen from a lifeless body in her wheelchair to an animated and vibrant, talkative young girl is exceptional. The movie features performances by Elvis, Love Me Tender and Ready Teddy.

Elvis Pure & Simple CD
The 'Elvis Pure & Simple' CD is Elvis without backing vocals & overdubs, the pure sound of Elvis Presley. Original masters but also some alternate versions were used for this release. In most of the studio sessions the backing musicians were there with Elvis and Elvis was singing along with them – yet here these vocals are faded out if they were present. Interview Jocelyn Lane about Elvis Presley (American Bandstand 1965)
Jocelyn 'Jackie' Lane was born Jocelyn Olga Bolton in Vienna, Austria in 1937. Today she was married to Prince Alfonso of Hohenlohe-Langenburg. In 1965, she co-starred with Elvis Presley in Tickle Me and later appeared in several roles in Hollywood films, including as 'biker chick' Cathy in Hell's Belles in 1969. She also made guest appearances on American television series. She retired in 1971 after marrying Prince Alfonso of Hohenlohe-Langenburg in Marbella, Spain on 3 May 1973

Suzanna Leigh, who co-starred with Elvis Presley in the 1966 musical comedy Paradise, Hawaiian Style, has died. She was 72. 'Elvis and I were both under contract to Hal Wallis, who was known as the star maker', Leigh once recalled. 'I remember the day that Hal said that I would be making my next movie with Elvis. I was an incredible fan of his, and then he said you'll be filming it in Hawaii. Wow. Elvis was a fabulous actor, very underrated by a lot of the conventional theater people'.

This is a video interview with Shelley Fabares on American Bandstand in 1965. Shelley starred with Elvis Presley in the 1965 movie Girl Happy, was one of three leading ladies in 'Spinout'. Adding to her lineup of movies with Elvis, the following year she starred in 'Clambake', her third starring role alongside the King. 'I loved doing those pictures', said Fabares. 'It's a happy memory for me, they were great fun'.

Follow That Dream (FTD) have announced that the reprint of the recently deleted titles 'Elvis In Atlanta' (containing two legendary shows from the Omni Coliseum in 1975 on April 30th and May 1), and 'Elvis Las Vegas '74' (containing two Legendary Shows From The Hilton Hotel On August 20, 1974) has been delayed until 2018. They will now be with the first releases of 2018.

After the success of 'The Alternate Moody Blue' Hepcat records releases 'The Alternate Today', Elvis' last real studio sessions took place on March 10-13, 1975 and resulted in the Today album. Nearby 43 years later Hepcat records releases 'The Alternate Today'. This deluxe 10-inch boxset contains a 10-inch vinyl record, a 45 RPM single and a fully packed CD. The 45 RPM features the unique combination 'Fairytale' & 'Susan When She Tried'. A companion double vinyl album will be released in 2018 for the album lovers.

John Lennon famously said that without Elvis Presley there'd have been no Beatles. Less well known is that the King was still impacting the group in t he 21st century. It seems Paul McCartney was listening, and closely, when a Junkie XL remix of Elvis Presley's 'A Little Less Conversation' topped the charts in nine different countries back in 2002. 'I'd been getting a little bit jealous', McCartney tells Steven Van Zandt. 'I was seeing remixes of, like, Elvis' things coming out - and I was thinking: 'That sounds good, man'. You know, it's still Elvis, but they've put a new beat behind it. I thought: 'I kind of like that'.
Date Changes for Elvis The Wonder Of You Encore Shows 2018
RCM Touring announces that there will now be only two 'Elvis Live' Concerts in Australia, not the original three, and new dates have been announced for the existing shows, meaning one has been canceled and two have been moved to different dates.
