Ampex is proud to present their latest release 'Standing In The Rain' as recorded live at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY on June 24 1973 at 3 P.M : On this day, Elvis is performing his last show in a series of four sold-out concerts at this venue, much like he did just over a year earlier 32 miles away in Manhattan at Madison Square Garden. The audience was primed beyond measure as Elvis had not performed in the New York-tri state area since the previous year. It was recorded on high quality BASF tape, and has tremendous dynamic range considering the limitations of
amateur equipment in those days.

Elvis Sings The Wonderful World Of Christmas, released this month with the help of outtakes not being overdubbed in any way ... reveals a more intimate and sensitive side of the Christmas recordings that took place in Nashville during two nights in May, 1971. When released on the original album back in 1971, Felton Jarvis had just about used every trick in the book when it came to making overdubs on
If I Get Home On Christmas Day, adding strings, horns and a lot of backing vocals, creating what I like to call a 'bombastic Elvis sound'. Listening to the alternate takes, especially the early ones, you can almost be fooled into thinking it's another song, it sounds so much more intimate.

Bill Medley Remembers Elvis Presley (09:44). I was working the Hilton Hotel, Elvis was in the main room, I was in this lounge and Elvis was doing You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' in his show. And so I'm doin' it 'You never close your eyes--' And I'm right at the place where it's 'Baby, baby, I get down on my knees for--' and I sense some rustling going on backstage, you know, when you're onstage it's like your living room and somebody walks onstage it's like somebody walking into your home at midnight. So I hear this rustling going on and I'm 'Baby, baby I get down on my knees for you'. And here comes Elvis and he walks right by me, in front of me, hits me on the arm and says, 'Hi, Bill' and keeps right on walking. And there was about four other guys with him and they just walked right off. And I didn't say anything. Well, the place went crazy.

Miley Cyrus says that new album Younger Now was inspired by her love of Elvis Presley - and the fantasies she had about him. And the singer was so obsessed with him that she used to rewind one of his movies just to hear him say her name. 'I was inspired by
Blue Hawaii. Elvis' girlfriend's name is Miley. 'I used to watch this movie over and over and over again because he would say 'I love you, Miley' ... Miley also

Expected soon from the E. P. Collector label is another exciting new release titled (label E. P. Collector, catalogue number EPC 2017-14). Elvis Presley's Graceland has announced the acquisition of one of the most significant pieces of Elvis' musical history, which will be returned to Graceland 60 years after it was first purchased by Elvis for the home in 1957 - a white, baby grand piano with gold accents and a custom-made, gold, metal bench designed by Elvis with a white, leather cushion. For the first time ever, the public will be able to see this legendary Knabe branded piano on display in its Graceland home. The music room at Graceland will be restored to its original 1960s-era appearance including the white piano, and will be unveiled on December 16, 2017.

Lorena Conrad met Elvis through her best friend Dixie Locke, Elvis' girlfriend, when she was in high school. Lorena talks about turning Elvis down for a car ride when she was in high school and seeing Elvis at church.
I must admit to finding that the 1969 'Fantasy' concert is a remarkable work that should have broad appeal - a big surprise. My initial skepticism was quickly overcome. This concert DVD should appeal to any Elvis fan that likes Elvis music to start with. With full quality normal audio, from CD, anyone can play this via their DVD player preferably then with the audio output via a stereo system. [And this is no diversion from what the format is] This DVD is well worth consideration for inclusion in your Elvis library for several reasons.

Elton John : I remember so well the day my mother came home with a 78 of 'Heartbreak Hotel'. She said she'd just heard it in the record shop and she knew she had to buy it straight away. So she put it on for us both to listen to and I'd never heard anything like that before in my whole life.

Elvis is Number 2 on this week's Official UK Albums Chart with the re-release of the compilation '
The 50 Greatest Hits'. Elvis just missed top spot by just 35 combined sales, and it is Ed Sheeran who scooped his 16th (non-consecutive) week at Number 1, denying Elvis Presley an extension of his Official Chart record. 'The 50 Greatest Hits' is a new entry on the official UK Album chart for Friday August 18, 2017.
Elvis Presley's ex-wife and their daughter joined thousands of his fans at
Graceland on Tuesday night as they gathered to mark the 40th anniversary of his death with a candlelight vigil.
Priscilla Presley, 72, was seen greeting fans before the event on Tuesday, as they arrived at the 13.8-acre Memphis, Tennessee estate for the gathering. And
Lisa Marie Presley, 49, lit candles for mourners as they gathered to remember the King of Rock 'n' Roll, holding their lights aloft throughout the vigil, which continued on into Wednesday.
She was married to the late Elvis Presley for six years, prior to his death in 1977. And in an interview with the Today show's Richard Wilkins, aired Wednesday, Priscilla Presley candidly spoke on life with the iconic singer. Admitting that she never viewed her husband as a worldwide phenomenon, the 72-year-old revealed a vulnerable and softer side to his persona: 'He poured his heart out to me'. 'I still remember, vividly, picking up the phone, the reaction of not believing it, there was no way I could comprehend…' she said. 'Going back to Graceland and hearing his father wailing, crying, crying out his name, it was probably the most heartbreaking sound I'd ever heard. Priscilla appeared on the Channel Nine breakfast program to promote her upcoming Australian tour in November, that will see her share stories from her fascinating life.
It's hard to believe but here we are, 40 years on from a day carved indelibly in the memory of every Elvis fan old enough to be around when the stunning news of Elvis' death was announced. 40 years gone, but paradoxically, 40 years where he has been with us ever more visible and all encompassingly than when he lived. Today Elvis is bigger and more entrenched in popular culture and conscience than back in 1977, when his legendary status was acknowledged but barely understood by the world at large. Today Elvis' iconic status and continued relevance is universally acknowledged. It's not just Elvis fans commemorating this 40th anniversary, not just the native English speaking countries of the world.
I do not know if it was August 16, 1977, or January 8, 1978, but I do know where I was when I first heard the name Elvis Presley. I was on a small island, Coochiemudlo, in Queensland, Australia. My grandmother mentioned the news that Elvis had died. To be exact she said something close to 'don't you feel sorry for your dad because Elvis died?' It meant little to me as I had never heard the name before. But it was impossible to not hear a lot around that time and for a number of years after. At least one radio station in Melbourne played only Elvis for 24 hours straight in the year or two following his death. For the record I was on Coochie Mudlo, sometime during 1977, I had gone up with a friend. But there is now no way to know when exactly I was there, but as always i was there in January
'Elvis Presley: The Searcher', a major Elvis documentary from HBO will debut in 2018. 'Elvis Presley: The Searcher' will be a three-hour, two-film presentation focusing on Elvis Presley the musical artist, taking the audience on a comprehensive creative journey from his childhood through the final 1976
Jungle Room recording sessions. The films include stunning atmospherics shot inside
Graceland, Elvis' iconic home, and feature more than 20 new, primary source interviews with session players, producers, engineers, directors and other artists who knew him or who were profoundly influenced by him. The documentary also features never-before-seen photos and footage from private collections worldwide.
Elvis Presley: 'A Boy From Tupelo': The Complete 1953-55 Recordings is a fantastic set! The Sun masters have never sounded better. You can really hear Elvis' rhythm playing on this set, and Bill Black's bass is more defined. Some of the live material sounds like it was recorded yesterday; however, there are a few tracks that are sub par because of the age of the source tape. But, it's still cool to own the stuff and necessary for Elvis fans, especially if you're like me and think his Sun material is tops. The three CDs are the products of 1,500 hours of restoration work and nearly 200 hours of additional studio time devoted to the remastering of the material. Of special interest is the inclusion of 'I Forgot To Remember To Forget', a newly discovered track from The Louisiana Hayride on October 29, 1955 and we have it here in fantastic sound quality ... transferred from the original 'wire-recorder'.
Kid Galahad will be released on Blu-ray with a limited run of only 3000 units on August 15, 2017. The release includes as Special Features: Isolated Music & Effects Track / Original Theatrical Trailer. A musical version of a 1937 boxing picture, Kid Galahad (1962) stars Elvis Presley as a singing boxer managed by a cantankerous promoter (Gig Young) and guided by an amiable trainer (Charles Bronson). Joan Blackman provides the love interest, Lola Albright co-stars, and Edward Asner makes his screen début. The songs include the up-tempo 'I Got Lucky'.
Jerry Leiber: I called and asked to speak to (Colonel) Tom. He got on the phone and said (Leiber imitates Parker) 'How you doin' boy?' I said, 'I'm OK. I had a real close call there. I had walking pneumonia and I just got out of the hospital.' He said he wanted me to pack right away and catch a plane. I told him I wasn't in any shape to catch a plane because I'd just gotten out of the hospital. He said, 'If they let you out, that means you're all right'. I told him I needed a day or two to get myself together, but he said the schedule was very tight and he needed me to come out right away.
Harry Morgan is probably best known to Elvis fans as Elvis Presley's co-star in the 1966 riverboat film, Frankie
and Johnny. He played 'Cully', Elvis' piano player, as seen in the clip above. The next clip includes a short interview with Harry talking about filming with Elvis and how pleasant he was to work with. In fact, he says, Elvis couldn't have been nicer.

Let's take a look at 'Elvis Studio Sessions '56' and see how it compares to RCA's 'Young Man with the Big Beat' and
Follow That Dream Records' releases. All in all, '
Studio Sessions '56: The Complete Recordings' is another fine release from Memphis Recording Service that can be recommended to anyone who wants all of Elvis' 1956 studio recordings collected in one place and presented in a nice way. It is also a great companion release to RCA's boxed set
'Young Man' (and especially the 2014 European reissue that has almost the same book format as this release) as it includes material not included on that release.

This was Elvis' first substantial studio time since the now legendary sessions of January and February 1969 at the American Studios in Memphis. Elvis had entered those Memphis sessions off the back of a successful television special and had approached the sessions like a hungry fighter aiming to reclaim his title. This focus led to some of the finest recordings of Elvis' career, including hits such as 'Suspicious Minds', 'In the Ghetto' and 'Kentucky Rain', and two impressive albums in 'From Elvis in Memphis' and 'Back in Memphis'.
The upcoming

Another volume in the 'Spliced Takes' series has been announced this time we have 'Spliced Takes Nashville Revisited'. Another 'must have' release in this great series, this time even more edits/splices were done to make an exceptional album, where tracks sound so much different than what is out there, no fake overdubs, but some tracks have been overdubbed, using snippets from the actual 'recording sessions'.

Many fans were surprised by last years '
If I Can Dream' DVD release, already considered to be one of the best Elvis releases ever, mainly because the new inventive approach they did on lots of the tracks, making them more 'alive' than ever. So there was an overload of requests to do this follow-up, and now it is ready to blow you away! This amazing set includes 16 tracks, edited to perfection. Presented in glorious 'Black and White' to obtain the same 'feel' as the first edition. Again some 'split screen' clips are used for a more 'story-telling' experience. Again, highlights are hard to pick, since all tracks are very fitting and stand on their own.
The release of the three FTD titles has been delayed about 1 week, now expected the first or second week of July. Along with
'Start Spreading The News': Elvis At Madison Square Garden Book and CD and

Elvis Studio Sessions '56' 3 CD Boxset from '
Memphis Recording Service' is the
perfect companion to the Sony '
Young Man With The Big Beat' 5 CD box-set. Whereas the Sony set gave us the masters, live recordings from Las Vegas and the Hirsch Youth Center, Louisiana along interviews and a very number of outtakes, MRS gives us both the masters and the complete 1956 sessions outtakes as well as the COMPLETE 'The Truth About Me' but also the outtakes for the 'The Truth About Me'.
The King of Rock 'n' Roll shattered many records during his incredible career. Forty-five years ago this weekend, he became the first entertainer in history to sell out four consecutive shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Elvis' Madison Square Garden shows were the first time Elvis performed in front of a live audience in New York since his TV appearances on the Dorsey Brothers, Steve Allen and Ed Sullivan shows in 1956 and 1957. Elvis performed before an audience of 20,000 fans at each of the four shows that took place June 9-11, 1972 (that's a total of 80,000 fans for the entire weekend). Initially, only three shows were booked, but those sold out instantly, so the fourth show on June 11 was added.
Lisa Marie Presley was photographed on May 29 arriving at the home of her mother Priscilla with her oldest daughter
Riley Keough as the mother-of-four enjoyed a day out with her three girls after a difficult few months. It marked one of the very few occasions that the 49-year-old has ever been seen with all of her girls, and was the first time that Lisa has been photographed with her 8-year-old twins Finley and Harper since they were sent to live with
Priscilla Presley in February.
Drums Of The Islands: Ultimate Paradise Hawaiian Style Recording Sessions is a sublime 3 CD boxset with the most complete PARADISE HAWAIIAN STYLE recording sessions, including many tracks unreleased by Elvis' official record company. Elvis: 'Country Memories', this great country CD, housed in 6 panel digipack, is based on the 1978 RCA vinyl album. It had some strange selections for a country album (like
How Great Thou Art and
Baby Let's Play House) but it sold like hot cakes, almost a year after Elvis' passing. This CD contains rare alternate and live versions of all 20 original tracks.
The forthcoming release from the 'SR' label is titled 'Hot Summer in 1973' and will feature the unreleased show from Las Vegas August 19, 1973 DS. This recording is taken directly from a first generation of original tape. The afternoon show is previously unreleased show.

Also included are 3 different versions from the song 'That's When Your Heartaches Begin' from 1953, 1956 and 1957. This album also contains great to hear and rare Elvis tribute songs and recordings from 'break-in' records from the fifties and sixties. Plus an answer song ('Yes, 'I'm Lonesome Tonight') to 'Are You Lonesome Tonight?' from 1960. A nice collection from and about The All-American Boy... Including a 12 page booklet with photos and recording information, with the history of 'break-in' records...

This is an excellent release no fan should be without it.
The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
