I had the pleasure of attending 'The Wonder Of You' sold-out concerts in Melbourne two nights running, Friday, Saturday, June 9 and 10 during which I was totally enthralled for practically every minute. It is tempting to compare these concerts with the forerunner,'Elvis The Concert' in 1999 and the slightly renamed 'Elvis Presley In Concert' in 2006 (the first being far superior to the second, much bigger screens to begin with) and while that is more than reasonable, these concerts are in many ways very different. But it was ELVIS everyone came to see and seeing him move on such a large screen was amazing.
Legacy Recordings will release '
Elvis Presley - A Boy From Tupelo - The Sun Masters', a single disc 12' vinyl package that chronicles the rise of Elvis Presley before he became The King of Rock and Roll.
The United States debut of 'Elvis: Live in Concert', an all-new concert production featuring Elvis Presley on the big screen accompanied by a live orchestra, coming to 12 cities this August. This critically-acclaimed stage event, which has sold out arenas across the world since last November, is inspired by the award-winning, chart-topping album releases, 'If I Can Dream' and 'The Wonder of You', which features remastered vocals of the king's voice and new orchestral arrangements of some of his biggest hits.
Jerry Schilling: The tour is going fantastically. We've done Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane, and I gotta tell you, I said it to the audience last night; I feel like I'm back on tour with Elvis! People are dancing in the aisles, having fun and we have this great orchestra conducted by the renowned Chong Lim who is awesome. This 40-piece orchestra has a rhythm section and three singers; it's first class. You look up at the big screen and you see Elvis, and I know it may sound weird, but you feel his presence.
Straight Arrow is pleased to bring you a new 2 CD dedicated to Elvis' February ’77 tour. The Hollywood, February 12th, 1977 show was first released in 1994, 23 years have passed since then and now is the right time for a proper re-release. Straight Arrow went back to the original cassette and restored it from scratch. The West Palm Beach, February 13th, 1977 show was previously released from an incomplete soundboard source.
Once again after a longer break Touchdown comes back with two new releases! The first one is 'Beyond All Bounds' which includes recordings from the Seattle concerts on April 29, 1973. The afternoon show is well known, but never sounded better than this time. The recording was carefully remastered and it now sounds clearer and much better balanced than before. Up on that we offer you six songs from the evening show from the same day in even better audience quality than the complete show from the afternoon. It’s a real treat to listen to the songs in this quality.
Just some of the reasons why you MUST see the Elvis: The Wonder Of You Australian Tour!
Sony has done some outstanding reissues featuring Elvis, including taking some chances with the King. This 'new' Elvis Presley album includes the King singing lovely with his backing band at the time with newer overdubs by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This is the second time this has been done, telling me people are digging it. I found myself really liking the first album, '
If I Can Dream', simply for the fact they cherrypicked some of El's best vocal performances and added simple, organic and extremely tasteful snippets of the Royal Philharmonic. The results were surprisingly good, with the string arrangements totally unobtrusive to the main instrument, being Elvis' voice. '
The Wonder of You' focuses less on El's big, well-known hits for '70s material featuring the master soul-mining newer pop material, and, many times, far surpassing the 'original' versions. Elvis' band at the time was top-notch in the studio, so that was an important element for this to work. Well-recorded and mixed, the songs stand by themselves.
Due for release in August is 'Strictly Elvis', a new hardcover book from Erik Lorentzen, ('
The Elvis Files', '
Elvis In Toronto') this time in collaboration with photographer Keith Alverson. 'Strictly Elvis' will contain about 1400 photographs from the period 1973-1975 and will be published in August this year.
To this day, no picture has ever captured the spirit of rock 'n' roll better than the young Elvis Presley wielding his guitar like a gunslinger's .45. Let's just not forget that the man who actually played the guitar on all those songs immortalized by the young Elvis was
Scotty Moore.

Jerry Schilling talks about the 'Elvis, The Wonder Of You' Tour of Australia 2017.
SHE was the wife of rock 'n' roll's reigning king - a union that put Priscilla Presley on an irreversible path to stardom. And though 2017 marks 40 years since the passing of Elvis, the association between her and the legendary performer is still as strong as ever. 'I miss his laughter', she says, eyes brightening at the memory. 'His laughter was so contagious. He'd start and everyone would start - they didn't know what they were laughing about, they just got so much enjoyment from being with him.
Sonny West has died in Nashville after a long illness. He was 79 years old. He had been suffereing lung cancer. Sonny was a member of Elvis Presley's entourage and met him for the first time in 1958 before Elvis left for his military service in Germany. Later he came to work for Elvis, and he was responsible for the fleet, and bodyguard. He even lived for a time at Graceland. The man had supporting roles in films such as 'Kid Galahad' and 'Stay Away, Joe'. Sonny was with Elvis (and
Jerry Schilling) on December 21, 1970, when
Elvis met with President Richard Nixon. Sonny West worked a long time for Elvis, but was fired in 1976. He was one of the authors of the controversial book 'Elvis, What Happened'.
Rock stars love the grungy look: sweat-stained T-shirts, ragged jeans, worn-out shoes. But Elvis Presley was no ordinary rock star. He was, after all, the King of Rock 'n' Roll, and he dressed like it. Fans never saw Elvis on stage in anything less than the best. Even early on in his career, he carefully chose his fashionable stagewear. He wanted to give the audience a thrill – not just with his music, but with his look. All these years later, Elvis' style is as iconic as his music. Elvis had great fashion sense, but it was designer
Bill Belew who helped take Elvis' fashion to the next level. Belew designed clothes for Elvis to wear both on and off the stage.
The Wonder Of You Tour of Australia has begun with the first concert in Perth last night with 10,400 Elvis fans in attendance. With Elvis Presley on state of the art screens, specially designed for this arena tour and backed by a full 40 piece symphony orchestra, Elvis is once again back in Australia! Next up is Adelaide Sunday night, followed by, Brisbane, consecutive nights in Sydney and ending with 3 nights in Melbourne through to June 10. These multiple concert dates follow hot on the heels of a sold-out arena tour in the United Kingdom and Europe. If you have yet to decide, it is easy, do you like the CDs,
If I Can Dream and
The Wonder of You with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra? And/or did you enjoy the 'Elvis The Concert' (1999) and '
Elvis Presley In Concert' (2006) tours? If you answered yes to either, or especially both, it should be an easy decision!! Tickets are still available in all states. Do you want to spoil yourself a little?

The following is an article by Chet Flippo, the Editorial Director for CMT: The 1977 book Elvis: What Happened? was a very messy tell-all expose, based entirely on interviews with the three formerly trusted aides and bodyguards who had recently been fired by Elvis' father Vernon as part of a cost-cutting operation. The bodyguards, the cousins
Red West and
Sonny West and Dave Hebler, felt betrayed after being summarily dismissed after years of what they regarded as devotion to the King. They seemed to seek revenge. And they got it in Elvis: What Happened?
'Elvis' is a great 6 panel digipack CD release (with the stunning cover !) is based on the original 'Elvis' Australia vinyl LP compilation album released in 1975 thru the RCA label. 'If You Haven't guessed by now... it's been 40 years!' CMT is back with an outstanding release! It's been 40 years since RCA released 'Elvis in Concert', still a favorite after all these years, not only for historic reasons, cause although not in good health Elvis' voice was still incredible! The producers have done a new approach on these recordings, and decided to make a more enjoyable version by cutting out all the fans comments, and edit the performances to one live concert, using 24Bit 96KHZ audio for the best possible sound. Most edits sound better then the original ones ... Including all songs from the original double album, plus five rare MULTI track bonus recordings, including a rocking 'Mystery Train'/'Tiger Man' bringing the total to 33 tracks! Presented in six panel digipack, with artwork matching the original release, including beautiful rare pictures.

Elvis Presley In Person is set up like a diary that gives us in both words and photos what happened on that particular day in 1957. There are time period interviews and questions and answers from the press conferences Elvis gave that day. One of the things the authors chose to include are present day memories from fans and media that were actually there that day and this is a real bonus. Something that is clear from the press conferences is that only a few years after his career started Elvis knew how to handle the press. Performers today have the luxury of press agents, managers, and various other employees that either shield them from the press or do a lot of prep work. Elvis had none of this. The stories from fans are fantastic and the memories from the press all these years later put the day into proper context. The words are worth reading and would have been a great book even without all of the photos.
Two new Elvis CD's from the Elvis One label with the original mono masters, outtakes and all movie versions from the movies 'Kid Galahad' and 'Follow That Dream'.
Elvis Presley: Kid Galahad / Follow That Dream: Part One: 1961 Studio Sessions. Along with '
Part Two'. A great addition to the
FTD releases (
Follow That Dream and
Kid Galahad) from these two EP's... Now you can find all known outtakes that were not released officially by Elvis' record company on these 2 albums. This is the key to the most complete collection! 4 Outtakes were officially released on FTD, however, on this album you can hear take 8 of 'This Is Living' and take 12 of 'Home Is Where The Heart Is' in it's complete form. Including a 12 page booklet with photos and recording information. This is a special edition in the

JAT publishing advises us that they have found some newer images and documents and art boards for the revised second volume of the '
The Definitive Vinyl Artwork of Elvis Presley 1956-1977' book. So while we are still waiting it sounds very much like it will be well worth the wait and finally, it is hoped the book will be ready by August.
Follow That Dream (FTD) have released the second volume of '
Elvis: His Songs Of Praise', this book completes the story chronicling a further 51 sacred, spiritual and inspirational gospel songs to add to the 55 songs featured in
'His Songs Of Praise Volume 1'. Once again, the story of each song is told with extensively researched detail. Also observe the high quality and subtle differences on the front cover and many other photographs of Elvis featured throughout the 350 pages. In addition, the 32-track CD that runs for over 79 minutes features many rare and officially unreleased tracks.
1976 was a turbulent year for The King of Rock n' Roll. His continually declining health coupled with a hectic touring schedule resulted in a very up and down quality to his shows throughout the year. Coming off the summer portion of his touring schedule, where he endured numerous mediocre concert reviews, Elvis kicked off his 8th tour of 1976 with a 2-night engagement at the Chicago Stadium in the 'Windy City' of Chicago, Illinois. Did the 35-day vacation between tours help E... lvis to rejuvenate from the frenzied pace of his summer tours? The 'Follow That Dream' (FTD) Collector's Label answers that question with it's 96th release - Chicago Stadium a 2-CD set containing both performances in Chicago on Oct 14th and 15th.
A Saturday morning fire caused 'extensive' damage to the former home of Elvis Presley on Audubon Drive, but ongoing renovations meant no Presley artifacts were in the house at the time of the blaze. Memphis Fire Lt. Wayne Cooke said the department responded to the home just after 7:30 a.m. The fire was under control by 7:52, he said. Fire personnel were on scene for several hours. The cause was electrical, Cooke said, and started in the wall between the living room and dining room. The one-story home was unoccupied and undergoing renovations.
The series continues, by popular demand finally a 'fifties' album, 'Spliced Takes Blue Moon' CD will be out soon! Again the STAR team has done all the edits on this album, and they did an even better job, with lots of excellent edits, and surprises. Their professional edits will blow you away, and will make you believe these are unreleased takes. Get ready to Shake, Rattle and Roll with this fantastic release, some highlights include:

This is an interview with Scotty Moore by retired Boston Herald journalist Larry Katz that he has recently transcribed. This is a superb, honest chat he had with Scotty Moore back in May 2002, almost exactly 15 years ago. At one point, Scotty makes an interesting observation. 'The stuff from back in the '50s is what people want to hear', he says. 'They love watching the jumpsuits and everything, but the music in the '70s don’t seem to have the staying power that the other stuff did'.

Elvis Presley was pulled over April 3, 1955, for speeding on U.S. Highway 171 in Caddo Parish. 'I turned around and followed him for eight miles at speeds of 65 to 80 mph ...,' says a statement by the trooper who stopped Elvis. It's believed that Elvis he was on his way to play a concert at the Louisiana State Fair Grounds in Shreveport when authorities stopped his 1954 pink and white Cadillac. He reportedly was driving at 80 mph in a 60-mph zone. Elvis posted a $25 bond for traveling 20 miles over the speed limit. On April 5, his name was called three times at the Caddo Courthouse door but he failed to appear, leading to the forfeiture of the bond, records show.

We are excited to announce a project that we know you've been wanting for years. The richly illustrated large-format book 'Bruce Jackson: Six Years On The Road With Elvis' delves deeply into sound-man Bruce Jackson's life traveling with the Elvis Presley Show. 'I mixed and ran the sound for Elvis for six years until his death on
August 16, 1977. I was 22 when I started working for him. I did hundreds and hundreds of shows with Elvis across mainland United States and Hawaii, constantly on the road to the next city or town. In between, there were recording projects Elvis asked me to be a part of and stopovers for rehearsals at
Graceland. Over those six years I got to know him on a candid personal level as a friend'. -
Bruce Jackson.
Screenwriter Allan Weiss, who was on hand to witness Elvis Presley's first Hollywood screen test and worked on six of
Elvis' movies in the 1960s, has died. He was 90. Weiss died Thursday at a nursing facility in Mission Viejo, Calif., his nephew, Ken Maas, told The Hollywood Reporter. Weiss provided the story for Presley's
Blue Hawaii (1961) and wrote or co-wrote the screenplays for the films
Girls! Girls! Girls! (1962),
Fun in Acapulco (1963),
Roustabout (1964),
Paradise, Hawaiian Style (1966) and
Easy Come, Easy Go (1967).

The
Follow That Dream (FTD) collector's label have released a double vinyl LP for the '

Let's cut to March 1, 1974 -- wild crowd hysteria and the Elvis Presley touring colossus hits Tulsa, Oklahoma -- 2001 intro, then an high-octane 'See See Rider' kicks in -- it's infectious, cutting bluesy riff sounds fabulous and there's an awesome ripping
James Burton solo ... fabulous all the way to the final
Ronnie Tutt cymbal crash. It's almost 1972 again and, 'I Got A Woman' Elvis then comments: 'Good evening! It's a real pleasure to be here in this beautiful place'. However, chat is kept to a bare minimum because it's strictly down to business and the
TCB band were never tighter than '74 after being honed on multiple live shows through the early 1970s. The
Follow That Dream release,
Sold Out! 2-CD On Tour 1974, includes an additional 1974 soundboard from June 21, Cleveland Ohio, and
fantastic additional artwork and liner notes. The hysteria surrounding the March/June tour of '74 and the story of Elvis performing at the Mabee Special Events Center is captured perfectly by Robert Frieser's sourced text and the included press reviews ...

Elvis Presley's two concerts at Maple Leaf Gardens were among only five he ever performed outside of the U.S. The April 2 concert is now featured in the '
Elvis In Person, One Night in Toronto April 2, 1957' Hardcover Book. 'It goes without saying', Toronto Star music critic Hugh Thomson wrote in a scathing review of Elvis Presley's two-concert appearance at
Maple Leaf Gardens on April 2, 1957, 'he has all the appeal of one-part dynamite and one-part chain-lightning to the adolescent girls, but to one like myself who is neither a girl nor adolescent, I could only feel he was strikingly devoid of talent'.
MRS will release for 'Record Store Day', 'Elvis On Television 1956-1960: The Complete Sound Recordings', a LIMITED EDITION 180 gram double LP set containing for the first time ever, the complete archival sound recordings of all of Elvis Presley's television appearances from 1956-1960. Memphis Recording Service is known for putting a lot of work into its high-quality releases and
Memphis Recording Service: The Complete Works 1953-1955 is no exception. The label kept their promise that the overall sound quality of these recordings would be improved thanks to new remastering. Memphis Recording Service
painstakingly remastered and restored the classic Sun recordings 'using the most sophisticated technology available' according to the liner notes of the release, and you can certainly hear that on the majority of the master takes on disc one. ... All in all, Memphis Recording Service: The Complete Works 1935-1955 is an excellent release that will not only be of interest to those who missed out on A Boy from Tupelo: The Complete 1953-55 Recordings but to anyone who wants to have all of Elvis' Sun recordings collected in one place and in the best sound quality possible right now.
The new 'Elvis Presley's Memphis' opened today. Jack Soden, Priscilla Presley and Joel Weinshanker cut the ribbon on the new a $45 million, 200,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art entertainment complex across the street from Graceland Mansion.
CMT is selling 'Sun Records' as the saga of
Elvis Presley,
Johnny Cash, and
Jerry Lee Lewis as the revolutionary first generation of
rock 'n' roll, but the show is really about
Sam Phillips, founder of the record label that recorded them all -
Sun Records - in 1950s Memphis. Phillips is played by Chad Michael Murray as a poor and stubborn innovator, determined to build a company around a new sound that would combine black rhythm and blues with white country music to forge both an art form and a money-maker.
Priscilla Presley will be on hand to kick off a four-day grand opening celebration for Elvis Presley's Memphis on Thursday, March 2, at
Graceland. The $45 million, 200,000-square-foot entertainment and museum complex is the second phase of Graceland's expansion plans. It will feature a new Elvis Presley career museum, the 'Presley Motors' automobile museum, a 20,000-square-foot 'Graceland Soundstage' performing space/meeting hall, a barbecue restaurant, a 1950s-inspired diner and retail stores. The facility will be five times the size of the current visitors center.
Expected soon from the E. P. Collector label is another fine release, Wild In Wichita!, their 10th - and 1st one for 2017. This new CD (label E. P. Collector, catalogue number EPC 2017-10) was recorded live from the
audience in Wichita, Kansas, on December 27th, 1976.
Finally, with 'The Lost Performances 3' DVD we have new UNRELEASED footage. After the huge success of volume 2 here is a brand new release which includes some amazing stuff, all presented in WIDESCREEN! It starts off just like the 'original' release, with an alternate version of 'Walk A Mile In My Shows' this time the August 12 M.S. version is used, and it looks more complete than ever. A great way to start the 'That's The Way It Is' 'treasures' segment, which includes some ultra rare, hard to find camera angles, in an amazing new sound (taken from master tapes). Next up is a special 'ISO Cam' recording NBC did for their 1968 'Elvis' TV Special.

Though Leonard Cohen and Elvis Presley seem to occupy different time-zones in the history of rock, they were born within a year of each other. And Cohen, like John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and so many others, vividly remembers the 'shock of recognition' he felt when he first heard Presley in the '50s.
After last year's very popular releases, ('
Hollywood', '
Nashville', '
T-R-O-U-B-L-E', '
Snowbird'), fans asked for more and now CMT is proud to present their latest release, 'Spliced takes - Hollywood Revisited', which promises to be another winner! Again there are lots of excellent edits, and surprises. Unlike other
Elvis bootleg releases with this title the producers truly were able to produce an album using many incomplete takes, to create beautiful new tracks. The professional edits will blow you away and will make you believe these are unreleased takes.

Elvis: The Essential Undubbed Masters 1969-1976 is a brand new deluxe 8 cd set and it is out now. Recording sessions can be time-consuming. The process of recording a song or album is often very interesting. It's like playing live in the studio, with the difference that if one goofed, they had to do it all over. Small corrections could be made but especially erasing something from the tape was a problem. Later on with the introduction of multitrack recording equipment it became much easier to alter the recordings. Channels could be erased or added and levels could be adjusted for each separate channel. Often a track that ends up on an LP or 45 contains overdubs that were made at a later stage and added to the master take. Also most of The Elvis masters contain such overdubs. This set contains the master takes as they were made in the studio, without those overdubs. It's as close as it gets to the pure sound of Elvis.
Elvis: Until It's Time For You To Go (Songs Of Love And Heartache). This is a wonderful album of some of Elvis' greatest 70's love songs. All tracks are alternate, undubbed versions.
Elvis: Something For Everybody (Alternate Album) CD. Elvis' thirteenth album released in June 1961. This great alternate album contains rare and hard to find outtakes (some not released by Elvis' official record company) of tracks recorded by Elvis between November 8, 1960 and March 12, 1961 in RCA's Studio B in Nashville, Tennesee. An excellent album with cover art done in 'early sixties' style with the best outtakes available. This is the album that could have been!
Elvis Presley & Helene Fischer 'Just Pretend', this is 'live' on television, the studio recording can be found on the number one album '
The Wonder Of You: Elvis Presley With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra'.

This is an excellent release no fan should be without it.
The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
