Sometimes living a long life has its rewards. Living to see this superb FTD album, 'I Sing All Kinds', is surely one of them. Shorn of the intrusive post production dubs, orchestration and background harmonies of the original releases, and given some inspired sound mixing, the songs on this FTD release are a joy to listen to. The improvement in sound and feel of the original releases is remarkable ...

The 'Spirit Of Jackson, MS' CD is now released and our order is on the way to us. On May 5th 1975, Elvis performed a concert in aid of the McComb tornado victims at the State Fair Coliseum, Jackson, Mississippi. Elvis raised $108, 860 to help residents who were affected by the devastation. The audio for this show is damaged beyond repair. However, 'Spirit Of Jackson, MS' includes two other shows from the State Fair Coliseum. Just over a month after the charity show, Elvis performed in Jackson again and this show is featured on Disc 2. Disc 1 stays at the same venue for a concert given in September 1976.
56 years after its initial broadcast, and 41 years after ABC is said to have discarded the original master videotape, a high-quality source of the soundtrack for the Frank Sinatra-hosted 1960 Timex special has finally been located. The special, officially titled 'It's Nice to Go Traveling', was Sinatra's last for the network, and was conceived as a vehicle to welcome home Elvis Presley, who was returning from Germany, after his separation from the service. Reviews of the show were generally positive, and the highlight of the program was the once-in-a-lifetime pairing of the The Chairman of the Board and The King, as they performed a duet of each other's hits -- 'Love Me Tender' and 'Witchcraft.'
The first soundboard that we have for a long, long time from the official label is a good show with some surprises. The show was recorded in Tucson, Arizona in June 1st 1976. The artwork is weak, but I have seen worse on the FTD-series. I like the design of the disc itself. The sound is very clear and loud, with all the instruments very audible, but somehow it does not give you that 'live feeling' like on Let Me Take Your Home or Holding Back The Years, for example. But let's talk about the very good content.
The Sweet Inspirations were founded by 'Cissy' Houston (Born Emily Drinkard, married to Gary Houston at age 21 for two years) mother of Whitney Houston, and sister of Lee Warrick (herself the mother of well-known sisters, Myrna Smith's cousins Dee Dee and Dionne Warwick). Emily and Lee were members of The Drinkard Singers, a family group that had the distinction of recording the first Gospel album to appear on a major label: A live recording from The Newport Jazz Festival in 1959. The line-up included Judy Guions (who later became Judy Clay), Marie Epps, Larry Drinkard, Nicholas Drinkard, ...
Watch the emotional duet featuring Lisa Marie Presley and Elvis singing 'I Love You Because'. The audio 'single' is now available to purchase from iTunes and the video will be available soon. The video itself is a masterpiece that I must say brought tears to my eyes. You will see Lisa Marie in the Sun studio recording the song and home film of Elvis' grandchildren. Lisa Marie performs a wonderful duet with her late father and does not 'take over' the song - with the first 1 minute 33 seconds with only Elvis' vocals before Lisa joins in for the remaining 1 minute 22 seconds. View and listen to the music video clip.

After a period of poor health, Larry Muhoberac has passed away aged 79. It was Muhoberac who played piano for Elvis' at his sensational Las Vegas return to live performing in 1969. In fact, Larry Muhoberac's hands have also doubled for Elvis' in several movie scenes of The King playing the piano. And while Elvis left the building long ago, Muhoberac also played alongside Ray Charles, Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand before moving to Australia with his wife Andra in 1986.
The cleverly titled 'Way Down in the Jungle Room' is another Elvis session anthology from RCA/Legacy that was conceived in the style of 2013's critically acclaimed 'Elvis at Stax'. It includes all the masters and many outtakes from the 'Jungle Room' sessions that took place from February 2-8 and October 29-30, 1976 at the 'den' of Graceland, Elvis' home in Memphis, TN. Back then, nobody could have guessed that these sessions would become a rather sad part of music history as Elvis Presley's last studio recordings. The songs that were recorded at those sessions ended up on the albums 'From Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee' (1976) and 'Moody Blue' (1977), which were both still released during Elvis' lifetime.

On November 28 & 29, 1976 Elvis performed two shows at the Cow Palace in the flower-city San Francisco. These shows have been regarded as some of Elvis' finest performances during this busy bicentennial year for The King. Gathered here in a beautiful 2-disc digipack, Elvis : Double Date At The Gate, is both shows in excellent quality. Unfortunately, the sound engineer was not able to capture the whole shows while recording, but on this release, you will find every second that was captured. The sound on both shows has been remastered by professionals and has never sounded better. Period.

First time I had any contact with Elvis I was in the hospital and Elvis sent me a telegram ... I had written and recorded this song called Old Friend and in the song it says, 'Would you be here if I could have been there?' in the song and that really means that at one point I think it was the second time maybe he went into the hospital or something I wanted to come to Memphis and talk to Elvis as a friend, you know, didn't want a Cadillac, didn't need anything, didn't want anything, just loved him.

Joe Esposito died November 23, after a year of declining health. Joe first met Elvis Presley in the Army in 1958 and began working for him soon after they were both released from the service in 1960 until literally the day he died seventeen years later. Joe was Elvis' right hand man and head of the Memphis Mafia.
'If I Can Dream' was the dynamic production duo of Don Reedman (Barbra Streisand, Michael Crawford) and Nick Patrick (Plácido Domingo, Il Divo). Reedman first approached executive producer Priscilla Presley with the idea to marry vintage Elvis vocal tracks with the RPO at famed Abbey Road Studios in London, and it was an idea she wholly embraced. Buoyed by the reception of If I Can Dream, the production Dream Team reunited to emerge with another stellar Elvis/RPO offering, 'The Wonder of You: Elvis Presley With the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra' (RCA/Legacy), a worthy sequel if ever there was.
MRS have released the 2CD/100page book compilation titled 'Memphis Recording Service: The Complete Works 1953-1955' and our order is on the way to us. The 100-page book chronicles Elvis' short recording career there, from its humble beginnings (his personal acetate recordings from July 1953 and January 1954) through to the final Sun sessions in 1955. The 2CD's contain the complete archival studio recordings from 1953-1955: Elvis' personal acetates, the Sun masters, along with rare session outtakes. FTD have released 'Elvis Gold Records Vol. 4' as a Special Edition 2 CD set in their Classic Album Series, and our order is on the way to us now. It was 10 years after the release of Elvis' Golden Records in 1958, that RCA Victor released Elvis' Gold Records Volume 4. It contained seven 'B' sides and only five 'A' sides. Whether at the behest of Colonel Tom Parker, or RCA, the philosophy of not including tracks that already featured on existing albums weakened what could have been a more powerful and hit-laden compilation.
Spliced Takes T-R-O-U-B-L-E CD. Finally a 'seventies' album! CMT is proud to present their latest release which promises to be another winner! Again the STAR team has done all the edits on this album, and they did an even better job, with lots of excellent edits, and surprises. Unlike other 'import' labels, they truly were able to produce an album using many incomplete takes, to create beautiful new tracks. Their professional edits will blow you away, and will make you believe these are unreleased takes.
Perfect for the holidays, and another winner here! The best seasonal songs and gospels are included here. Every year there are some 'new' Elvis Christmas Albums ... they all have the same tracks over and over ... how nice to have something really new now! One of THE highlights must be the alternate version of 'Winter Wonderland' it has a totally new approach and alternate ending which sound amazing! Another cool edit is the 'single' version of 'Merry Christmas Baby' without the overdubbs! 'The First Noel' sounds as if it is a RPO version, the original master was edited with the 2008 overdubbed version, and makes it more powerful then ever! As a bonus a 'duet' version of 'Mama Liked The Roses' is included, Elvis recorded two vocal overdubbs, these are combined here to get a very unusual version.

Let's just say it wasn't Jenny Maxwell's day. It all started early, when scenes for 'Blue Hawaii', Hal Wallis production, called for Jenny to try to drown herself, be rescued by Elvis Presley, who then turns the tiny 19-year-old blonde over his knee and gives her a sound spanking. For the long shots and close-ups, Jenny dunked herself thoroughly three times, was hauled out and spanked by Elvis, a total of four times.

A suicide note was the unlikely inspiration behind the song that became Elvis Presley's first No. 1 hit and million-selling single. Steel guitarist and session musician Tommy Durden read a newspaper article about a man who had killed himself, leaving behind a piece of paper with the haunting words: 'I walk a lonely street'. Durden brought the article to his friend and cowriter Mae Boren Axton. A 41-year-old high school English teacher who moonlighted as a journalist and a songwriter, Axton had notched a few hits in the early '50s with artists such as Perry Como and Ernest Tubb. In late 1955, she took a part-time position as a public relations secretary for Elvis' manger, Colonel Tom Parker. As Axton and Durden discussed how they could turn the newspaper article into a song, Axton suggested that there be a 'Heartbreak Hotel' at the end of the lonely street. With that flash of inspiration, the pair was off and running. Painting a picture of a place where 'broken-hearted lovers cry away their gloom' and 'the desk clerk's dressed in black', they managed to convey in very few words a mood that was both romantically charged and funereal.
'If I Can Dream: Elvis Presley With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra' is a remarkable new album that features classic Elvis vocal performances with brand-new orchestral accompaniment. On October 21 a new album, 'The Wonder Of You: Elvis Presley With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra' will be released.
On stage during the filming of 'Elvis: That's The Way it Is' Elvis joked and teased the 'Sweet Inspirations' that you would bring in the Supremes, with Mahalia Jackson singing lead. He did not have to go that far, he had an ideal group in front of him (as Elvis fans know), but the person to bring in, or rather bring back was the groups founder, Cissy Houston. Emily 'Cissy' Houston was the real killer feature of the group, certainly when listening to this CD, and she was backed by three very competent singers in Myrna Smith, Sylvia Shemwell and Estelle Brown who managed a great mix of a gospel sound and Atlantic soul music.
This week, 'Way Down in the Jungle Room' has dropped from No. 38 to No. 62 on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart (If I Can Dream is No. 69). The album also exited the charts in the Netherlands and Switzerland. it dropped from No. 71 to no. 44 in Austria, from and from No. 26 to No. 35 in Belgium. Australia is the only country so far to take the album into the Top 10.

This is an excellent release no fan should be without it.
The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
