Presented over 350 pages with lavishly illustrated high-quality images, many unseen photographs and graphics. Every song has been thoroughly researched like the author's previous trilogy Elvis: 'The Best of British'. In early interviews, Elvis divulged that spiritual music was his first love and he publicly continued to reaffirm. Despite being acclaimed as the 'King of Rock 'n' Roll', he was only presented with three Grammy awards for his spiritual music and the stories of these iconic songs are contained within this book. Includes a 30 track CD.
Let's just say it wasn't Jenny Maxwell's day. It all started early, when scenes for 'Blue Hawaii', Hal Wallis production, called for Jenny to try to drown herself, be rescued by Elvis Presley, who then turns the tiny 19-year-old blonde over his knee and gives her a sound spanking. For the long shots and close-ups, Jenny dunked herself thoroughly three times, was hauled out and spanked by Elvis, a total of four times.

A suicide note was the unlikely inspiration behind the song that became Elvis Presley's first No. 1 hit and million-selling single. Steel guitarist and session musician Tommy Durden read a newspaper article about a man who had killed himself, leaving behind a piece of paper with the haunting words: 'I walk a lonely street'. Durden brought the article to his friend and cowriter Mae Boren Axton. A 41-year-old high school English teacher who moonlighted as a journalist and a songwriter, Axton had notched a few hits in the early '50s with artists such as Perry Como and Ernest Tubb. In late 1955, she took a part-time position as a public relations secretary for
Elvis' manger, Colonel Tom Parker. As Axton and Durden discussed how they could turn the newspaper article into a song, Axton suggested that there be a '
Heartbreak Hotel' at the end of the lonely street. With that flash of inspiration, the pair was off and running. Painting a picture of a place where 'broken-hearted lovers cry away their gloom' and 'the desk clerk's dressed in black', they managed to convey in very few words a mood that was both romantically charged and funereal.
'If I Can Dream: Elvis Presley With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra' is a remarkable new album that features classic Elvis vocal performances with brand-new orchestral accompaniment. On October 21 a new album, 'The Wonder Of You: Elvis Presley With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra' will be released.
On stage during the filming of '
Elvis: That's The Way it Is' Elvis joked and teased the 'Sweet Inspirations' that you would bring in the Supremes, with Mahalia Jackson singing lead. He did not have to go that far, he had an ideal group in front of him (as Elvis fans know), but the person to bring in, or rather bring back was the groups founder,
Cissy Houston. Emily 'Cissy' Houston was the real killer feature of the group, certainly when listening to this CD, and she was backed by three very competent singers in
Myrna Smith, Sylvia Shemwell and Estelle Brown who managed a great mix of a gospel sound and Atlantic soul music.
This week, 'Way Down in the Jungle Room' has dropped from No. 62 to No. 71 on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart while If I Can Dream is No. 54. Australia is the only country to take the album into the Top 10.

Elvis Presley 'Nashville City Limits' on Ruby Red Vinyl is a limited Edition of just 200 HAND NUMBERED copies. Few rooms in the music world have seen as much history as RCAs Studio B in Nashville. Steve Sholes, RCAs head of Country recording since the late 1940s, had signed Elvis Presley to the label in November 1955. Elvis' success helped Sholes and guitarist-producer Chet Atkins to convince their bosses that RCA needed its own studio in Nashville. Studio B opened in November 1957. Soon thereafter, Sholes and Atkins, along with Owen Bradley and a few other Nashville producers, responded to the rock & roll insurgence by beginning to make records in a smoother, more pop-influenced style, often employing string and horn sections and background singers not to mention an A-list of core musicians.

This week, '
Way Down in the Jungle Room' has dropped from No. 16 to No. 38 on the
Australian ARIA Albums Chart, from No. 22 to No. 26 in Belgium, from No. 86 to No. 96 in the Netherlands, No. 32 to No. 71 in Austria and No. 26 No. 47 in Switzerland. On the
Official UK Charts, the album only dropped one place from No. 67 to No. 68, still in the UK, Scotland, the album climbed from No. 54 to No. 38.
This release and represents the first two tours of 1975, with more rarely performed songs recorded on 'soundboard' compiled for this release. Elvis' voice is clear/strong throughout and virtually NO throwaway performances. I found that by including the dialogue and one-liners, they really represent 30 tracks on this CD. 8/10 and very a worthwhile purchase.

Listen to a sneak peek of 'Kentucky Rain' from the next '
Elvis Presley With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra' album. The follow up to the global phenomenon, If I Can Dream! Coming October 2016.
Elvis Presley never called it the Jungle Room. For him, his breathtakingly garish tiki-tinged lair - sui generis in the realm of ostentatious kitsch - was merely 'the den'. Constructed in 1965 as an addition to
Graceland, Elvis Presley's already-fabled Memphis headquarters, the room was the nerve center of his home life. There he would take his breakfast, contemplate the enormous artificial waterfall, entertain his coterie of confidants nicknamed the '
Memphis Mafia'. For a man who opened many of his concerts by singing 'I'm the king of the jungle, they call me tiger man', this unruly terrain of green shag carpeting, plastic plants, rainbow lights and ersatz animal fur seemed perfectly appropriate.
We need a red light or something, you know, so these guys'll think they're in a whorehouse and play better', Elvis Presley jokes before a stunning take of 'It's Easy For You' on the new release Way Down in the Jungle Room, released on Friday. He needn't have worried. Long considered a fallow period in Elvis' career, the 1976 sessions on 'Way Down in the Jungle Room' - recorded when Elvis was overweight, out of shape, and overmedicated - are stunning. Cut after cut shows Elvis in powerful voice, with his peerless gift for interpreting a song undiminished.
Elvis 'If I Can Dream' the concert with 40 piece Orchestra is coming to Australia and New Zealand in 2017. Following on from the six date UK run in November featuring the (touring) Royal Philharmonic Orchestra perhaps surprisingly, Australia and New Zealand are up next, however the international tour will be without the actual Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with instead a '40 piece Orchestra' to replicate the original album work of the Royal Philharmonic. 'If I Can Dream' was a worldwide chart success and hit the very top of the Australian ARIA album charts on debut and as reached as high as No. 3 in New Zealand. No concerts dates have been announced as yet.

'

'Way Down In The Jungle Room' is an essential and welcome addition for every fan's library. In the mid-1970s, Elvis, the King of Rock 'n' Roll, became another kind of pioneer as one of the world's first major recording artists to create fully-realized professional level records in the intimacy of his own home studio.
Where is your copy of the '
If I Can Dream': Elvis Presley With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra' CD? Filed away, among your current played CDs, or perhaps is it open with the disc in your CD player? After a period of it being 'left' on the shelf' after the heady times of its release nine months ago, recently I have had the album out and I have since played the CD several times, and I find I l still love this CD, with the exception of one track ('Fever' with Michael Bublé) so without any doubt for me this album has stood a good test of time, and I don't have any doubt I be able to say the same in ten years’ time!
The Houston Astrodome was chosen by Colonel Parker to be the first venue for Elvis to perform outside Las Vegas. After the concluding show Elvis held a press conference for about 100 journalists at Astroworld.

The story has been repeated thousands of times, with minor variations, in magazines, books, blogs and documentaries. In some versions, the heartbroken man shoots himself; in others, he leaps to his death from a hotel window. There are occasional references to a failed romance and to the destruction of all traces of identification before the fatal act. There's always a one-line suicide note: 'I walk a lonely street'. But there's never a name. For 60 years, the true identity of the man whose death inspired '
Heartbreak Hotel' has remained a mystery. Florida songwriters Tommy Durden and Mae Boren Axton always claimed the creative spark for Elvis Presley's first-ever Number One hit was a 1955 newspaper story about an anonymous man's suicide and his cryptic note about that 'lonely street'.

Straight Arrow is pleased to bring you a previously unreleased concert from Elvis' last season in Lake Tahoe. Opinions on the standard of Elvis' last stint in Lake Tahoe often vary. Granted, he did look quite bloated during these shows, and the jumpsuits often looked unflattering, but Elvis was generally in good voice. He delivered his longest ever shows in Tahoe and the King really did seemed to enjoy the intimacy of the showroom, along with the rapport with the fans in attendance there. The May 8th 1976 Midnight Show is, without doubt, one of best concerts from the engagement.
Coming out soon is the 8th volume of Straight Arrow's 'From The Booth tapes' series. It's 2xCD entitled 'One For The Ladies' featuring Elvis' Dinner and Midnight show from February 10th 1973. These recordings are taken directly from original 'booth recorded' mastertapes. Both these concerts showcase Elvis in fine form. It was a busy month, with many highs and lows, but thanks to the outstanding success of the 'Aloha' special, Elvis' reputation as the ultimate superstar was now firmly cemented. There were a few off-nights due to Elvis having the flu, but he was certainly in good spirits at these two concerts, and he delivered the goods to two packed showrooms.
Scotty Moore, who had been in poor health in recent months, died Tuesday in his longtime home of Nashville. He was 84. He was the man behind 'The Man', the one producing the signature licks amid the screams and hysteria and history making moments. Scotty Moore was one of the foundational figures in rock and roll, a profoundly influential guitarist, and the musician who helped Elvis Presley become The King. News of Moore's death was confirmed by several sources, including Moore's friend and Phillips Recording Service engineer Matt Ross-Spang.

In
early May, we reported some interesting
Elvis Presley happenings afoot at the Phillips Recording Service. Although details were vague, officials from Sony/Legacy - the custodians of the Presley catalog - and longtime
Elvis TCB band members were on hand at Phillips to work on tracks for an upcoming project. Though unconfirmed officially, the work was reportedly for a 40th anniversary package marking the King's 1976 home recording sessions at
Graceland's Jungle Room. 'We mixed 18 tracks from the Jungle Room sessions, and the really cool thing is
James Burton,
Norbert Putnam,
David Briggs,
Ronnie Tutt - all those guys who played with Elvis came to town and hung out while I mixed', says Ross-Spang. '
It's pretty interesting mixing with James Burton standing over your shoulder'. Ross-Spang's work offers
a sparer-sounding version of the Jungle Room material. 'Those songs were originally done on 16-track at the house, but afterward, (Elvis producer)
Felton Jarvis took the tracks back to Nashville and added strings and horns and overdubs. Which was cool, but it's really great just to have the original kind of swamp-y tracks, real bare bones. I think that's where some of the material really shines'.
Award-winning songwriter
Linda Thompson breaks her silence, in her book, '
A Little Thing Called Life: From Elvis' Graceland to Bruce Jenner's Caitlyn & Songs in Between' (Hardcover) sharing the extraordinary story of her life, career, and epic romances with two of the most celebrated, yet enigmatic, modern American superstars -
Elvis Presley and Bruce Jenner.
Wayne Jackson, who played standout horn lines on rock 'n' roll, soul, R&B and pop mainstays along with Memphis Horns partner and tenor saxophonist Andrew Love, has died. He was 74. Jackson and Love performed on recordings by numerous top-shelf artists, including Otis Redding,
Elvis Presley,
Neil Diamond and U2. His wife, Amy, said her husband died of congestive heart failure Tuesday night. Jackson had been hospitalized and released June 7 before taking a turn for the worse Monday night and being readmitted. 'He led an incredible life and he left an amazing music legacy', Amy Jackson said.

RCA Records and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release '
Way Down In The Jungle Room', a definitive new 2 LP record collection of Elvis Presley's last studio recordings, on Friday, August 5. The set recorded in Graceland's Legendary Jungle Room includes Studio Masters, Rare Alternate Takes and 16-page Booklet.
With original recordings executive-produced by Elvis Presley with producer
Felton Jarvis (who'd helmed most of Elvis' records from 1966-1977), 'Way Down In The Jungle Room' brings together, for the first time in one collection, master recordings and rare outtakes laid down during two mythic sessions (February 2-8, 1976 and October 28-30, 1976) in Graceland's den -- known as the Jungle Room -- which was converted into a professional caliber recording studio for the purpose of capturing these indelible performances. The outtakes have been newly mixed by Grammy Award-winning engineer Matt Ross-Spang at
Sam Phillips Recording in Memphis, Tennessee.
CMT is proud to present their latest release, 'Spliced takes - Hollywood', which promises to be a winner! The STAR team has done all the edits on this album, and they made magic once more! Unlike other 'import' labels, they truly were able to produce a great 'new album , using many incomplete takes , to create beautiful new tracks. Their professional edits will blow you away, and will make you believe these are unreleased takes. Some new 'alternate masters' were made and the result is amazing; just listen to the breathtaking version of 'Steppin' Out of Line' or the new 'bluesy' opening of 'Slowly But Surely'. Elvis fans have been spoiled over the years, and they all know.. 'the end is near' almost every complete take available has been released, so this is as close as you can get for a 'New' album, an album which won't leave your player this summer!
Nevada Nights is an excellent FTD double delight and a chance for fans to obtain these shows in the best sound. The sound features Elvis sort of somewhat up close, up front sort of between Fort Baxter and the DAE sound - listenable and warm to the ear ... A great release!. This review, originally published in 2008, we present to you again as it contains many unique songs along with dialogue from Elvis, making it an essential part of any fans collection ... This first CD features the famous opening night : August 19, 1974, where Elvis departed from the conventional opening - not starting with Also Sprach Zarathustra or See See Rider - instead opening with Big Boss Man - and including many songs he had not performed live before. Down In The Alley, Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues, I'm Leavin', Softly As I Leave You and Promised Land making this the most unique concert of the 1970s.

Chips Moman, the legendary producer of the
American Sound Studios in Memphis, where Elvis recorded in January and February 1969, passed away yesterday, just a day after his 79 birthday. Chips worked for a while at the famous Stax studios in Memphis, but in 1962 he started his own recording studio on 827 Thomas Street in Memphis. Lincoln Wayne 'Chips' (because he loved gambling and collecting the 'chips') Moman worked with many great artists, including
Neil Diamond and
Elvis Presley, and wrote and/or produced more than 100 songs for Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson,
Waylon Jennings and many others.
Elvis' first Canadian performances were at the Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto
April 2, 1957. Next The 'King' performed two concerts in
Ottawa on April 3, 1957. Then on
August 31, 1957, Elvis
, Scotty Moore, Bill Black,
D.J. Fontana and the
Jordanaires went to Vancouver by train to perform at Empire Stadium. It was the second stop of a tour of the Northwest that had started the day before in Spokane. By this time Elvis had recorded eight No. 1 singles in two years, had made three movies and was about to release 'Jailhouse Rock' as his latest single. Having performed in Toronto and Ottawa in April, this was only the third time they ever performed outside of the U.S. and for Elvis it would be the last. Vancouver's first rock-and-roll show had taken place barely a year before, when
Bill Haley and the Comets drew 6,000 people to the Kerrisdale Arena. Now Elvis had drawn a crowd over four times larger.

Elvis was in fine form on this 'Hot August Night' of the 25th of August 1969, a performance perhaps never to be beaten. For those that only read the summery of reviews, I can be quite clear, this concert is without doubt the best live recording released to-date of Elvis Presley in 1969, and is one of the best concerts Elvis Presley ever performed - both in sound quality and performance! Why? I could say, listen to it and you will agree, but I offer you an interesting fact, it was from this concert that RCA chose to use seven (7) of the tracks to make up the original 12 track 'Elvis In Person' album in 1969. This is 58% of the albums tracks. And this is from the good number of concerts recorded of which several have been released on CD by FTD. So crystal clear stereo sound and a great performance.
When it is said of Elvis' return to the stage in Las Vegas in 1969 was his 'first live performance in 8 years', this concert is the one referenced - and as a 'last' concert for so long - fittingly it was a powerhouse performance, exciting for what it was, but disappointing in that the 1960s were not full of, and known for such performances instead of just movies.
Never before have we seen an Elvis Presley concert from the 1950's with sound. Until Now! The DVD Contains recently discovered unreleased film of Elvis performing 6 songs, including Heartbreak Hotel and Don't Be Cruel, live in Tupelo Mississippi 1956. Included we see a live performance of the elusive Long Tall Sally seen here for the first time ever.
+ Plus Bonus DVD Audio.
This is an excellent release no fan should be without it.
The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
