If you're a fan of Elvis Presley, you certainly know the photograph entitled 'The Kiss'. The famous
June 30, 1956 black-and-white photo features 'The King' smooching with a mysterious and unidentified woman. The photo became iconic; but even the photographer,
Alfred Wertheimer, didn't know who the girl was. Her name, if not her image, remained unknown for years. Who she was remained a mystery. Until now ...
If this is ultimately Elvis' good-bye benediction, it's a testament worth hearing again and again. All you need is love. At least the hardcore Elvis fan can enjoy, for the first time ever, a complete December 31, 1976 version of 'Can't Help Falling In Love'. In the final analysis, if you do not possess a copy of this legendary Presley event, the FTD set is a reasonable, if not definitive, place to find it.

Elvis, Scotty and Bill played the Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach, Florida, for the first time on May 7, 1955 while on a tour with Hank Snow that had started in New Orleans on May 1st, and was for nearly three weeks touring with almost every day a show. According to writer Peter Guralnick, they met Mae Boren Axton, publicist for the Florida leg of the tour, at the first Florida date, in Daytona Beach. Mae would later co-write 'Heartbreak Hotel' with Tommy Durden which would be Elvis' first recording with RCA and ultimately his first Gold record. On the recent MRS boxset '

In a recent interview, Sony Legacy senior vice president, A&R John Jackson revealed that Sony Legacy are already planning some releases for 2017, the 40th anniversary of Presley's death. 'We've got some interesting ideas', he admits. 'The 40th anniversary of some of the last (1976) recordings he made is coming up, so we're toying with the idea of how to best present those. NOW, we can reveal that some members of
Elvis' TCB Band are at work in Memphis. They
worked in secret on a special project in the recording studio 'Sam Phillips Recording', located on Madison Avenue. Also the people from Sony Music Entertainment were present, and
Ernst Jorgensen, the major driving force behind the many products of '

Elvis Presley - The Album Collection, the 60-disc set spans the entire run of his 21 years with the label.
Sony Legacy senior vice president, A&R John Jackson talked to Billboard concerning the thought process of assembling the set. 'The way we decided to approach this package -- because we have done similar things for other artists, such as
Johnny Cash and Ronnie Milsap -- was to
recreate the original albums. Now, the definition of what an original album is on Elvis becomes tricky because there's been so many collections and compilations of things that were released during his lifetime, and of course, a gazillion since then. What we decided to do was
hone it down to what would be considered a new album with some new material on it that was released during his lifetime -- the first place that a song appeared on a long playing record while he was alive', Jackson said ...

In the afternoon, Elvis Presley, Scotty Moore, and Bill Black performed in Houston at the Magnolia Gardens (afternoon show), 12044 Beach Street, Houston, Texas. There was actually an ad for this appearance at the time, were in the audience that day and Jim and Lois Robertson were trying out a new 8mm home movie camera with color. They didn't really know of Elvis at the time and Lois Robertson only seemed to recall about 20 to 25 people in attendance. She filmed parts of the performance and after the color film was developed the Robertsons watched it once or twice, then put it away.

'Elvis was huge in the fifties, had his troubles in the sixties, but he came roaring back in the seventies when he was huge all over again. He took over Vegas and made the town his own. When he was playing the Hilton, everyone was happy because business trickled down from this show to everywhere else. I'd only met him in passing, but people kept saying he was a big fan of mine.
I met Elvis on a plane, in 1972. My manager, actually, at the time, was
Steve Binder, who directed the Elvis comeback special for NBC. So I was going back and forth from Australia because I didn't have a permanent visa, so I had to fly back and get another visitor's visa and fly back to America. I was doing that for a while. I got on the plane one time and I was in the back of the bus but I walked past the first-class section - it was stopping in Hawaii because he was going to Hawaii - and there was Elvis ...

In 1956, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson were in the race for president, but singer-songwriter Lou Monte had a different candidate in mind: Elvis Presley. He penned the tune 'Elvis Presley for President', which was released that summer. 'A vote for him is a vote for rock 'n' roll/Elvis Presley for President!' Monte sang. The song garnered 5,000 write-in votes from fans who wanted to elect Elvis. Elvis' manager, Col. Tom Parker, borrowed the idea, and often passed out 'Elvis for President' buttons, which were a big success. And fans often made 'Elvis for President' signs. They were all on to something: Elvis for President is a great idea.
On September 4,1972 the UK Elvis Presley fan club flocked to Las Vegas to catch a glimpse of their hero -- and were NOT disappointed! '
Destination USA' FTD 2-CD documents Elvis' Las Vegas 1972 summer season - and for many fans it was a once-in-a-lifetime trip to see the King ...
Unseen photographs of Elvis Presley serving military duty in Germany have been discovered for the first time since 1958. The black and white snaps of the
King of Rock and Roll were taken while he was doing his national service at Bad Nauheim, in what was then West Germany, and they were put into an album by a young English girl known only as Frances, who was 18 and working as a chambermaid in the town that summer.

Lamar Fike was one of Elvis Presley's career-long entourage who became the singer's friends, foils, bodyguards, road managers, lighting technicians, punchbags. Or, as Fike put it, 'his buffer zone'. The group of men, and one woman, became known as '
The Memphis Mafia', not least because of their black mohair suits, sunglasses at night and black limos. The term stuck and was generally used, including by Elvis and themselves, with considerable irony. Elvis considered his 'mafia' as his extended family and there is a school of thought that he kept such old friends around him to protect him from the advances of the real mob, particularly during his Las Vegas years, when he was said to have received offers that must have been difficult to refuse.
Only 1 year after it was released,
FTD have now 'sold out' of their extended soundtrack release of '
This Is Elvis' adding it to the growing list of no longer available titles. We have the last copies we were able to order on the way to us now, only a handful, so if you would like one,

In the early 1950s, a friend brought Charlie Chaplin a copy of Elvis' first record: Charlie was always aware of the public. While at the Manoir in the fifties, a friend visited him and brought him a record of a new singer named Elvis Presley. Charlie hadn't heard of him. 'This man has made a sensation in the States', his friend said. 'I can't understand it. He wiggles his hips and sings and people go mad'. 'If he's made such an impact', Charlie replied, 'he must have something. You can't fool the public'.
Elvis Presley - I'm Leaving: Elvis Folk-Country 1-LP Black Vinyl (RSD Exclusive) is limited to 5000 copies and includes masters from Elvis' sessions at RCA Victor's Studio B in Nashville in May 1971, a period in which several folk writers' material surfaced spontaneously amid gospel and holiday recordings, plus others with similar provenance: from Dylan¹s 'Tomorrow Is A Long Time' in 1966, to then-contemporary pop-folk such as 'Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues' in 1973, this is Elvis in an introspective mood, masterfully creating definitive versions of iconic compositions that resonated with him for his friends in the studio - and for us. The very best of Elvis Folk-Country 1966-1973.

The legendary DVD '
Elvis Behind The Image Vol. 1' heralded a completely new era of Elvis documentaries and entails a series of first class issues, which not only revitalized the 8mm-genre, but revolutionized it. The historic material has been digitalized directly from the 8mm-reel by a new developed and highly sensitive laser scanning technique. By using this equipment it was possible to bring the previously unreleased 8mm movies on DVD in a never before known quality.
'Along with the rest of 'Deep Purple', I once had the chance to meet Elvis. For a young singer like me, he was an absolute inspiration. I soaked up what he did like blotting paper. It's the same as being in school - you learn by copying the maestro. His personality was also extremely endearing, his interviews were very self-effacing (and), he came over as gentle and was generous in his praise of others. He had a natural, technical ability, but there was something in the humanity of his voice, and his delivery. Those early records at the Sun Records label are still incredible and the reason is simple: he was the greatest singer that ever lived'.
'
The Album Collection' is now in stock and we have begun the rather large job of packing and sending out orders. (Should be completed by Friday). This is a delightful work from Sony, and to give you a different take on the set, and what very much caught our eye was
the original back cover art that we do not get even with the
FTD Classic album releases. A really nice, original touch. The original album packaging has been painstakingly restored including gatefold/die cut sleeves, original RCA Victor inserts, stickers and more. And the CD labels replicate original side 1 labels. This
should be a center-piece in every home be it in playing the albums, or simply making a statement with its very presence!!!!

In early 1975, despite Elvis' clearly fading desire to record new material (he hadn't recorded a new studio album since 1973), Elvis managed to step up to the challenge one more time. Little did anyone within the Elvis Presley circle know that when Elvis stepped into the RCA recording studios in Hollywood, CA. on March 10, 1975, it would be the last time 'The King of Rock N' Roll' would record music in a proper studio setting. However, the results of this 3-day recording session produced arguably the most diverse album of Elvis' career -
Elvis Today and released by the
Follow That Dream (FTD) Collector's Label.
Elvis Presley Enterprises is 'deeply concerned with the aggressive actions' taken by the Westgate Las Vegas Resort in closing an Elvis exhibit over the weekend. In a statement sent to the Review-Journal, EPE said the Westgate on Friday seized, 'without any legitimate legal basis', hundreds of Elvis artifacts on loan to the exhibition from the Graceland Archives. EPE said it is not a party in the third-party dispute, but 'we have no choice but to pursue all legal means necessary to ensure the return of our artifacts immediately'.
Many people believe that the rock 'n' roll era began May 5, 1956 when the album,
Elvis Presley, reached Number One on the National charts for the first of ten weeks. It was a far different sound than the other best selling albums of the day which included Belafonte by Harry Belafonte, The Man With The Golden Arm soundtrack, and Songs For Swingin' Lovers by Frank Sinatra.
Aug. 16, 1977, forever will be remembered by Elvis fans everywhere as 'the day the music died'. I was studying in New Zealand at the time and was bummed beyond comparison as I took a break from classes that day to mourn the loss of the King of Rock 'n' Roll ... The Parker sisters, Beth Uale of Hawaii Kai and Sheri Pula of Southern California, (Ed Parker's daughters) share many fond memories of Elvis - like when he came rolling into their driveway in a black limousine one summer afternoon in 1974.

Memphis Recording Service have just released 'Elvis Live In The 50's - The Complete Concert Recordings' and our order is on its way to us now - arriving early to mid this week. This box set is the ultimate tribute to Elvis Presley documenting his shows from the 1950's. The 3 CD's represent for the first time ever, the release of the complete collection of archival live concert recordings (including rare interviews and the recently discovered new material) by Elvis Presley in the 1950's. All of the 82 tracks included have been painstakingly remastered and restored. Fans who enjoyed previous mastered works of the MRS team such as '
Such a Night in Pearl Harbor', '
The Complete Hayride Archives' and
Boxcar's remastered works of the Orlando February 1977 concert, are in for a treat. Our restoration techniques have now been applied to the Tupelo shows as well as the Eagles Hall, Frontier and Robinson Auditorium shows. Combined with further works on the Hayride and others shows, the quality of these recordings is now far superior to ever before. The 172 page book is a chronological photo journey following Elvis from the very first to the very last shows performed in the 1950's. It contains linear notes that includes every show listing (now updated) and is accompanied by hundreds of photographs many of which are rare and unpublished.

Flipping through the '
The Definitive Vinyl Artwork of Elvis Presley 1956-1977' my first reaction is this book was put together very well, presented in the chronological form ... I can't help but be pleased, I could not see any better way of presenting the Elvis 45 record sleeves, Elvis EP & Elvis LP Covers than the way that they are presented to us in this book. The Vinyl Artwork book contains most of the
original photography for the albums, singles and extended plays released in Elvis Presley's lifetime. Many of the photos are the full gorgeous images as they were originally photographed with
many never before seen in their entirety. Many of these photos are considered to be some of the greatest photography on Elvis Presley.

The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
