Did Billboard in fact remove all 11 of Elvis Presley's number one hits in July 2008 and we have only just found out in November 2011? Perhaps it does not matter when they did it, we believe we have proven they did it, but the following suggests they did in fact do so in 2008. Was this a response to Elvis fans and even EPE disputing the matter and Billboard deciding to rid themselves of any debate? You can decide for yourself ...
Review : 48 Hours To Memphis Concert CD from FTD.
The July 1, 1974 concert included with the new FTD book release, Fashion For A King proves that you do not have to have a stereo recording to have A grade sound quality. And this soundboard recorded concert is in A grade sound quality and it also may just about present us with Elvis' best concert performance from 1974, to my ears it is anyway. The sound is crystal clear and Elvis is in top vocal form, he certainly gives a far better overall performance, in my opinion, than the famous Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis concert recorded just three months prior ... The book is stunning ... a photo book ... also a tremendous photo book detailing Elvis' jumpsuit's and a detailed information book and then it is of course a great reference book ...
When it was announced that there would be two volumes of Jailhouse Rock in the
Classic Album (Movie Soundtrack) series, I wondered how they could make four good CDs out of what was a movie with such few songs. Well after giving both discs of Volume 2 a spin, I can tell you the answer is they sure can.
Elvis Presley first appeared on national television in the USA on January 28, 1956, on The Dorsey Brothers Stage Show in New York. On Monday, January 23, 1956, Elvis, Scotty Moore, Bill Black and D.J. Fontana rehearsed in Memphis for their television debut. Elvis and Colonel Parker flew to New York on Wednesday the 25th. They stayed at the Warwick Hotel on 52nd Street. Elvis ate dinner in the Hickory House restaurant the night they arrived and did some sightseeing on the 26th. Perhaps as an indicator of things to come, Scotty, Bill and D.J. were not afforded a plane trip and drove from Memphis to New York and arrived on January 27th.
Sad news for us and those in the Elvis community that knew him, our friend Pete Smith who ran the website Apache Elvis for some years, going back to when many oif the Elvis websites started, has died.
Make no mistake this book is an important release, and essential, and to make it more so it is just one part of what will be a six volume set that no one will ever want to part with, the highlight of any bookshelf.
Inspired by Troy's article, '

Having received the photo book Elvis : The King Of Las Vegas, all of 5 pounds (2.3 kg) and 25cm (10") x 30cm (12") of it, I can say I am just amazed, stunned, I went through it page by page, got to the end, and did it all over again, and there are 360 pages! This is without doubt the best Elvis Presley photo book I have seen. It covers in great style, Elvis' life in Las Vegas from 1956 to 1976 in pictures.
The
Elvis Presley Sings The Great British Songbook 2 CD provides some surprises amongst a unique track listing. The album features songs that were written by some of Britain's greatest songwriters however the use of live soundboard as well as RCA live stereo recordings makes this surprisingly essential listening.
The set contains several 'rare' soundboard and stereo concert recordings.

The
Aloha From Hawaii Deluxe Edition 2 DVD set features many new camera angles resulting in a vastly improved and cohesive concert experience. The sound quality is also greatly improved, with all instruments and backing vocals clearer than ever before. Overall, an exciting set with informative booklet.
'
Baby, Let's Play House - Elvis Presley and the Women Who Loved Him', reading the title, the book sounds good doesn't it? The problem is as the saying goes, you can't judge a book by it's cover, or in this case, by it's
title.
I have just been listening to two CDR copies (Disc 1 and 2), made directly from the Sony master for
Elvis Presley: 50 Australian Top Ten Hits 1956-1977, and they sound fantastic. Not just the songs themselves, not just the quality, but to hear each track in the order that they charted, and then getting into the 60s all of a sudden a 50s recording comes on and it's just magic!!!

Elvis: Vegas '69 is a quality hardcover book and is without doubt the best book on Elvis Presley produced to-date ... And it is something altogether new .... It is not a photo book ... It is not an information book ... It is not an interview book.
Yes it has all three elements - and
in abundance - but the way it is formatted -- presented -- is completely new, refreshing, easy to read or just to flick though - (when time is limited) - and enjoy some great photos of Elvis, or read some quotes taken from the many interviews Ken has conducted.
Elvis In Gold does start with it's first chapter showcasing Elvis posing for photos in his new Gold lame' suit -- including one with the suit's creator Nudie Cohen -- and gives us text with the story of the suit. But after these first pages, the book can be said to be a photo book of Elvis in 1957. And a high quality hardcover one at that! Not 100% essential but this is one book that will definitely be finding a home on my bookshelf.
Standing Room Only is the album that could and should have been released in 1972. Now 37 years later we finally get a concept release from
FTD allowing us to enjoy what could easily have been Elvis' biggest selling album of the 1970s. With these masters - in superb sound quality - we are reminded where Elvis was at musically in the spring of 1972 - with strong commercial potential such as 'Burning Love' and 'Always On My Mind' RCA had enough tracks for the theoretical 'Standing Room Only' album plus for another pre-album single release if needed. And just imagine if 'For The Good Times' was released in 1972 instead of 1996!
Elvis' purchased this 1971 yellow De Tomaso Pantera sports car in 1974 for $2,400 as a gift to then girlfriend Linda Thompson. This is the car Elvis shot - on more than one occasion! George Klein, Myrna Smith and Sheila Ryan all tell rather amazing stories about Elvis and this De Tomaso Pantera sports car.
On July 7, 1955 Elvis purchased his second Pink Cadillac, a new 1955
Cadillac Fleetwood Series 60 in blue with black roof, to replace the Cadillac that was burned. He had the car repainted by a neighbor who designed a pink color for Elvis and named the color 'Elvis Rose'. This is the one that he gave to his mother, probably the most famous car in the world. Gladys would always proudly point to it as 'her' car.
This week it has been reported that Mariah Carey has surpassed Elvis Presley as the solo artist with the most No. 1 singles on Billboard's U.S Top 100 chart.
EPE (and Elvis Australia) claim that Elvis had, in fact, 18 No. 1 singles, meaning Carey would have simply tied with Elvis. The confusion lies with the 1956 chart-toppers
Don't Be Cruel and Hound Dog. EPE (correctly) lists the two songs as separate No. 1 singles. In the 1950's and 1960's Billboard counted
record sales and
Jukebox plays of
both sides of a single.
Also in the case of Hound Dog and Don't Be Cruel there were two different covers issued allowing for which ever was asked for at the counter. One had Hound Dog / Don't Be Cruel the other the reverse Don't Be Cruel / Hound Dog.
The Very Best of Elvis Presley 2 CD set is an absolute delight. Mastered from a high a resolution 24 bit master, the
sound quality is perfect and very easy on the ear.
Never before have we seen an Elvis Presley concert from the 1950's with sound. Until Now! The DVD Contains recently discovered unreleased film of Elvis performing 6 songs, including Heartbreak Hotel and Don't Be Cruel, live in Tupelo Mississippi 1956. Included we see a live performance of the elusive Long Tall Sally seen here for the first time ever.
+ Plus Bonus DVD Audio.
This is an excellent release no fan should be without it.
The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
