Right there, in the middle of 'Ku-u-i-po', with no fanfare, no preparation, comes footage of Elvis appearing live in Hawaii ... In 1957 ... In color ... It is 30 seconds long ... But . . . wow. Ultimately, the wide format and split screens of Aloha From Hawaii DVD [2013 Edition New Edit] work better than I imagined they would, and they serve to shed new light and energy upon a concert that has become so familiar to Elvis fans. Use of split screen technology returns Aloha to its roots, albeit in modern form. It's Elvis. It's fun. What more could I ask?

The
Elvis At Stax Single Disc Version has debuted at No. 43 on the Australian
ARIA Album chart. However it is definitely the
Elvis At Stax Deluxe 2 CD Box Set Version that has been the hit with serious Elvis fans and if you have yet to order this set the one we recommend to you. Presented / packaged identically to the format used for the excellent [and now
effectively sold out, a few sets remain,
Prince From Another Planet] - that nestles down-home Memphis R&B and all-points in between - Elvis' last major 1970s recording sessions at the STAX studios produced greatness and sometime mediocrity in a vastness of styles: copious R&B wah-wah inflected workouts mingle with gospel, country, and aching ballads, but the sessions never strayed too far from the Presley blueprint - breakneck rockabilly amped up to eleven and beyond on a blistering cover of Chuck Berry's classic - '
Promised Land' (Master - CD-3) - but if not satisfying enough, gorge on two more thrilling takes (4 and 5) – stamped - utmost air-guitar - guaranteed! (CD-1 R&B/Country-The Outtakes) ...

God was sitting, pondering the woes of the world one day and he decided what the world needed was an emissary of beauty, form, and musical magic to bring joy to the troubled planet called Earth. So God said, 'let there be a manchild made in heaven, then put upon the earth ... he will grow tall and straight sand handsome; I will give him a loyal and loving heart filled with empathy and compassion; I will give him soulful eyes to warm many hearts; ...
READ the fan letter sent to Graceland, August 16th 1977.
Elvis passed away 36 years ago today. I was only nine years old at the time, but I was already a fan and I remember it well. Throughout my life, I've always done something to note the day. I'd watch an Elvis special on TV, or listen to some of his music. This year, it feels different. Though I am not at Graceland for 'Elvis Week', this was the year I finally got down there. I stood on one of the same stages where he first performed and in the same room where he first recorded. I saw his home, his cars and his airplanes and met one of his best friends. I placed a flower on his grave as a gesture of thanks, for not only his music, but for all of rock music. I paid my respects to The King. These are the types of experiences you can have when you visit Memphis. If you are a fan of Elvis Presley, you should really try to visit Memphis. You need to go to Graceland.
Robert C. Cantwell was a Golden Glove competitor, nonetheless afraid to take the police entry exam never dreaming he would accomplish his life goal of being a police officer. He would climb through every rank in the Denver Police Department; become the Director of Prisons for the Colorado Department of Correction; and the Director of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. He personally met a long list of famous people including the King,
Elvis Presley. He has told many about the time he was with Elvis and was encouraged to retell his story in a book. This is his first written account of the time he was with Elvis from 1970-1977.

] Elvis Presley's first film arrives on Blu-ray today with extras including commentary (by an Elvis historian) and several featurettes. While it's far from my favorite E.P. movie, I will say The King looks pretty amazing here - even when he's dying onscreen.

We asked our club members to nominate their top 5 favourite artists after Elvis. As I have come to know over the years, The Beatles are highly regarded and we in fact have a few die hard beatles fans on our list. So it is no real surprise to me that The Beatles top our list, (and Paul McCartney fourth) not only in over all votes but also well clear in the number of 'first' votes. From 1190 entries, with five votes per entry, we have a 'who's who' list including, Tom Jones, Roy Orbison, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, The Beach Boys, Dean Martin Johnny Cash and Frank Sinatra.

Elvis : Rhythm & Blues is an excellent double CD compilation with not only a much wanted theme but a well thought out selection of alternate takes, undubbed masters and importantly masters where appropriate, for example the master for 'Memphis Tennessee' was used as we strongly felt that the alternate takes did not match the brilliance and power of the master and did not offer the unique characteristics that many of the chosen alternate takes on this set do. While we looked for and found so many interesting tracks with variations of Elvis talking, laughing etc which is where so much fun is found, it was never at the expense of quality, as in quality sound, and a good performance, nor ever allowed to get repetitive. We went by 'feel' and as it turned out only one track needed replacing with another take as it did not feel right.
Just when you thought Elvis fans could not get any more incredible, along came 20-month-old Ella Mae. Check out this new video (below) posted by her father, which shows her singing Elvis' 'American Trilogy'. Around the 1:00 mark, the tiny Elvis fan begins her performance singing along to the king's classic. Ella Mae, well-versed on her Elvis music, takes on the hit like a pro and even quotes some of Elvis' speaking parts. Fans can also catch her leading the legendary orchestra moment at 4:24 with a full-on back-seat performance.
Arthritis has invaded the hands of the man 'Rolling Stone' magazine rated 29th in its 2011 list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of all time, ahead of legends such as Mark Knopfler, Joe Walsh, Muddy Waters, Slash, Dickey Betts, Bonnie Raitt,

I just had the chance to finish up watching Elvis : He Didn't Come Back ... We Did. I just love seeing 'That's The Way It Is' material in this kind of quality without the big, annoying 'Property of Turner' text on the screen. The small type on the On Tour material is the way to go and so much less obtrusive.
With this release, Elvis Is Back! : The Alternate Album we focused not just on alternate takes for the sake of them but rather we carefully selected good performances first and foremost and importantly a selection that 'felt' like they belonged together, an album, songs that were consistent with the preceding track, for a very listenable experience. While we looked for and found so many interesting tracks with variations of Elvis talking, laughing etc which is where so much fun is found, it was never at the expense of quality, as in quality sound, and a good performance, nor ever allowed to get repetitive. We went by 'feel' and as it turned out only one track needed replacing with another take as it did not feel right on our final listen.

Here we have a video of Paul McCartney backstage during his recent concert in Memphis talking about seeing Elvis on the big screen for the first time ['Love Me Tender'] and he even breaks out his own Elvis moves and sings a few lines of We're Gonna Move, all impromptu and amazingly similar to the full studio audio outtake we brought to you recently in our
'Paul McCartney visits Graceland' news article. This again shows Paul's love of Elvis, the influence Elvis had on him, and his amazing knowledge of even Elvis lesser known songs.

From the Verve label comes the release, Elvis : City Of lakes '76 recorded live on October 17, 1976 in Minneapolis. This concert was released by FTD as 'A Minnesota Moment', however 'Verve' say, 'Unfortunately the original release from FTD left a lot to be desired'. 'It sounded flat, muffled, lifeless and very hissy. The sound quality was disappointing as was the 'artwork' which showed on top an outrageous bad done Photoshop job with Elvis' left hand'. The VERVE Team say they have done 'everything to improve the overall sound and as a result you'll get to hear a soundboard recording that should have sounded in the first place'. 'Now you can hear the show for the first time in the best possible sound quality'. 'Hopefully you can enjoy the concert now as much as we do while reading and flipping the sixteen pages of the booklet'.
On Sunday, May 26, 2013 Paul McCartney dropped by Graceland to pay tribute to Elvis Presley. In his first ever visit to Elvis' home, McCartney was given a tour of Graceland during which he was offered a rare glimpse inside the Graceland Archives. To maintain the integrity of Elvis' instruments, the archive staff regularly tuned them. So who better to tune Elvis' guitar than the song-writing legend. McCartney briefly played Elvis' 1956 Gibson J200 guitar while humming the famous Elvis tune Loving You. [Paul owns Bill Blacks Upright Bass]
Below you can listen to Paul singing Loving You recorded at the time of his 1973 TV Special, during the acoustic bit they filmed although the song was edited out, the same for We're Gonna Move.)the acoustic bit they filmed although the song was edited out, the same for We're Gonna Move.)
To be released soon is 'St. Louis Blues' (label E.P. Collector, EPC 2013-01) recorded from the audience at the St. Louis, March 22, 1976 tour closing show. Among the highlights are 'Let Me Be There' (performed for very last time), 'Steamroller Blues', 'Polk Salad Annie', 'Hurt' and 'America (The Beautiful)'. Since the show is rather short, producers decided to add 9 solid bonus tracks from Johnson City, March 19, 1976 show.

The statistics for our Elvis Presley and Racism : The Ultimate, Definitive Guide are astounding; the page has had just under 4000 page views in the past two weeks alone, since we highlighted the article on March 23, which is remarkable. However what is astounding is the average time spent on the page, 1 hour 12 minutes, so people are really reading the article, we can't recall seeing anything like this before.
Here is an amazing image. With a modern day visit to Hawaii and an original photograph, Australian fan Alexander Attard with imagination and the help of some digital editing overlaid an original photo of Elvis in the backyard of a home in Hawaii with his recent photograph of the very same back yard.

Petula said of Elvis: 'I wouldn't say we were friends, although we did meet a few times. I think he wanted to be more than friends. Well, I know he did. We planned this big girly night out and went to see Elvis' show'.

If you are old enough to remember the original broadcast of Elvis Presley's Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite, then it is a safe bet that you are over the age of 40. It was almost exactly 40 years ago that the huge event was first shown on American television, on April 4, 1973. [With the live broadcast to much of the rest of the world on January 14, 1973] To celebrate this momentous anniversary, RCA Legacy have just released the double-CD commemorative package of Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite. There is no question that this is the definitive edition, and Elvis Presley was absolutely in top form on both nights. For the curious, Aloha From Hawaii is not a bad place to start to see for themselves just what all the fuss was (and remains) all about.

This is an excellent release no fan should be without it.
The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
