Why can't all music releases be this good? Sony/RCA/Legacy have come up trumps with Prince From Another Planet - an Elvis release which celebrates The King's only New York concerts, in Madison Square Garden in the summer of 1972. What most impresses about this set is the packaging. The care and attention that has gone into creating an eight-inch square slipcase, (with the original design respected) a six panel gatefold wallet holding the discs (again with superb artwork) and a 52-page booklet that is everything you want to accompany an archival release - fantastic photography, reproductions of original newspaper reviews, an absorbing essay ... The CD audio in this deluxe edition has been remixed by Michael H. Brauer (mastered by Vic Anesini), the idea being to put the listener in row four of the audience, right in front of the performance ...
The photographs featured in Elvis and the Birth of Rock and Roll were taken just as Elvis was emerging as a local southern star to a national one. This collection includes some of the most famous pictures ever taken of anyone ever. It includes photographs including such iconoclastic images as Elvis with cap sitting on motorbike, the kiss backstage, Elvis astride on stage with guitar, plus many more that are etched into the minds of Elvis fans and the public alike. Alfred Wertheimer didn't waste the opportunity .. The whole package is sheer class.
TASCHEN, a global leader in the publishing of art and lavish limited editions (www Taschen.com) has come up with a new first, an absolutely gorgeous, extra large mega photo book of Alfred Wertheimer photographs titled '
Elvis and the Birth of Rock and Roll' ... 1,706 copies, signed by photographer Alfred Wertheimer ...

In Germany Elvis Presley was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Armor Regiment, 3rd Armored Division, Ray Barracks, Friedberg. Elvis served with the Division from October 1, 1958 to March 1, 1960. However he spent 6 months at Ft. Hood for basic & advanced training with the 2nd Armored Division, prior to Germany. The December 2012 issue of the
2nd Armored Division's 'Hell On Wheels' 'Bulletin' remembers Elvis in photos and story by Harold Heikkinen who like Elvis, was also transferred to the 3rd Armored Division.
The Complete On Tour Outtakes DVD has been released. This is a fantastic new release filled to the brim with outtake material from 'On Tour'. There have already been a couple of releases with this raw footage that - fortunately for us - somehow escaped from the vaults from MGM. You will get to view an enormous amount of material. The DVD shows us there is a treasure trove of material that would make a spectacular official remake of the in documentary. The producers have made this DVD in chronological order. Starting with the studio rehearsals, on to the rehearsal on the road and then on to the live concerts. Also: from the Madison Square Garden Press Conference (great footage and very sharp close ups of Elvis!) to the Press Conference in Hawaii (November, 1972) to announce 'Aloha From Hawaii' (in very good quality!).

The forthcoming release from the 'SR' label is titled '
Such Night'
and will feature the unreleased show from Las Vegas August 16, 1969
Midnight Show. After a long research finally we located a good tape
that gives us the possibility to produce a show from Elvis very first
season. As everybody knows SR concentrates its work on early 70's live
period of Elvis' activity, trying to produce always unreleased shows
with Elvis at the top of his possibilities. In this our new release, we
are proud to present the almost complete show from August 16th midnight
performance of the first Elvis' historical Vegas season.
The Rainbow Records label will release two new
bootleg CDs : a new CD set (two separate
cds) called 'Never-Ending Demand' Vol. 3 + Vol. 4,
featuring Elvis Presley's complete performances of May 3, 1975
(Afternoon Show on Volume 3, Evening Show on Volume 4) at the Civic
Center in Monroe, LA. Both shows have not been released on cd so far and
will be presented in real good sound for an audience recording
Released shortly will be Straight Arrow's double-digipak release 'Southern Gypsy Magic', featuring the wild July 23, 1975 Asheville show, plus bonus rarities from July 22 and 24. The show was originally issued on a 1997 CD called 'Gyrating Asheville'. But recently, Straight Arrow obtained a superior audience tape source, one too good to be kept in the vaults: a recorder equipped with two microphones, so there is noticeable 'ambience,' due to the channel separation. And, for the first time, the show is presented complete ...
The Chisca Hotel is from where Dewey Phillips broadcast, and Elvis'
That’s All Right Mama was first played. This WHBQ Broadcast booth IS a piece of Rock & Roll History and why the City of Memphis, or EPE, doesn’t seem interested in preserving it from pending demolition.

On first opening
Prince From Another Planet' I was first surprised and then delighted by what I found. While the layout images presented prior to release were very good I was expecting a large 'digi-pack', and while that would have been very nice, the 'box set' presentation that Sony have clearly gone to a lot of trouble to produce is something extra special. Now the important stuff : How does it sound?
Audionics returns with their first CD of the year, Aloha, Jerry!, dedicated to the eighth Las Vegas season ... After the worldwide triumph of his 'Aloha' benefit show ... closed out the Vegas run with a fabulous performance on February 23, in front of superstars and astronauts. Here we have a complete recording of that evening, taped by a super-fan. Elvis delivers on a night that would be bass player Jerry Scheff's last for more than two years.
Here we have a video interview with stunning Shelley Fabares, who starred with Elvis Presley in the 1965 movie
Girl Happy, was one of three leading ladies in '
Spinout' [1966]. Adding to her lineup of movies with Elvis, the following year she starred in '
Clambake',
Finally after its discovery in July 2012,
Ernst Jorgensen /
FTD has acquired the rights to the 1955 live recording of Elvis singing '
I Forgot To Remember To Forget' on the Louisiana Hayride radio program. The owner of the tape recently remarked that he had sold the 'rights to the recording' to Ernst Jorgensen.
FTD Books will release Elvis: The Best of British : The HMV Years 1956-1958 a 440 page hardcover book including 2 CD's the week of February 4. This is the story of EVERY song by Elvis released on the British HMV label. It is an eclectic mix of graphic illustrations of the labels, the charts and rare memorabilia through 1956-1958. Thorough research of each song and songwriter has taken many years and provides the definitive history of the music that shook the world, sensationally revealing many previously unknown facts and British connections to Elvis and his music. The book contains over 1000 rare and unpublished photographs ...
Rare pictures from the LIFE archives (43 photos). LIFE presents a series of photos - most of which never appeared in LIFE - showing Elvis, along with his 15-year-old girlfriend, Priscilla Beaulieu, in Germany on the day he left for the States (March 2, 1960), and Elvis again at Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he landed on March 3, sans Priscilla. He was officially discharged from the Army on March 5. These photos, by LIFE photographers James Whitmore and Al Fenn, capture a moment in Elvis' life when he was poised to remind everyone who might have doubted it that, despite two years of taking orders, he was ready to again be the King.
Receiving both the Follow That Dream CDs, Back In Memphis and 3000 South Paradise Road on Friday I would have thought that 'Back In Memphis' would have been first into the CD player but possibly taken by the stunning artwork I decided to play '3000 South Paradise Road' and I found that it not only contains a brilliant performance by Elvis but quality sound to match, which in particular did more than surprise me. This is a unique performance by Elvis with stand out songs, What Now My Love, My Way, An American Trilogy and Fever ... of particular interest are Elvis' comments after My Way, where he says 'that's a very good song ... I wouldn't want to associate it with my own personal life ... now the end is near and all that jazz... it's a nice song, it's okay for Sinatra but ... I haven't even ate it up and spit it out yet, still chewing on it ...
January 14, 2013 is the 40th anniversary of perhaps Elvis Presley's greatest triumph : Elvis made television and entertainment history on this date with his
Elvis: Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite concert special. The show was performed at the Honolulu International Center Arena on January 14, 1973 at 12:30 AM Hawaiian time. The concert was beamed live via Globecam Satellite to Australia, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, South Vietnam and other countries, and was seen on a delayed basis in approximately thirty European countries. The first American airing was April 4, 1973 on NBC-TV.
Elvis Presley : Arriving In Hawaii : January 9, 1973

It is with sadness we report that TCB Band member,
John Wilkinson has passed away in his home aged 67, on Friday, January 11, 2013, surrounded by family and friends, after a long battle with cancer. At the age of 10, he famously snuck into Elvis Presley's dressing room before a show at the Shrine Mosque in Springfield, telling Elvis, 'you can't play guitar worth a damn'. Elvis was amused and impressed with this kid and predicted they would meet again. They did.
When Elvis Presley Enterprises announced that they would show 'unreleased' footage of Elvis traveling to Hawaii and performing there, most fans thought that it would be something not too exciting. After all, it's been over 55 years. But the footage shown at the exhibit, is just mind blowing.
Frank Page who introduced Elvis Presley for the first time to a paying audience in 1954 at the Louisiana Hayride died late Wednesday after a bout with a severe respiratory infection. He was a veteran regional broadcaster and a legend in the music world through his work at the Louisiana Hayride.
Touchdown Productions proudly presents their next release Paradise City an audience recording which will contain the concert from February 18, 1977 in Columbia, Florida. It's represented in the best possible sound quality from a newer source than what was used on the old release 'Release Me' from 1992. Up above it is possibly the best concert from the first tour in 1977 and without a doubt one of best concerts he gave in 1977!
Elvis As Recorded Live In Lake Charles, Louisiana : May 4, 1975, Evening Show is newly remastered
soundboard containing 38 tracks including the evening show from May 4, 1975 + 8 bonus tracks! Includes an8 pages booklet with photos and recording information. Elvis sings 'Jambalaya', 'Johnny B. Goode', 'Big Boss Man', 'Fairytale', 'My Boy', 'Promised Land', 'It's Midnight' and many others... The evening show from May 4, 1975 was released on the 'A Profile : The King On Stage' box set (released in 1995) from the Fort Baxter label.
January 8, 2013, 78 years since Elvis Presley was born and many media outlets ran news marking the day, the one which caught our attention was the news story that 'in honor of what would've been Elvis Presley's 78th birthday Tuesday, kindergarten students at Parkway Elementary in Tupelo took part in an old-fashioned sock hop! They danced to Elvis tunes, had a hula hoop contest and drag raced some mini hot wheels.
To be released shortly is a new double CD audience recording release from the Straight Arrow label titled, '
Hot Love In A Long, Cold Winter'. Presented in a digi-pack the set contains the St. Petersburg and Columbia 1977 concerts from newly obtained original audience recorded cassettes which both have surprisingly good sound.
Limited Rare Collectable 3 track Christmas with Elvis CD + Elvis Presley Catalogue Museum Dusseldorf (Germany) : [60 page magazine] On the CD there are two Elvis Christmas songs: Silent Night and O Little Town Of Bethlehem and a never before published commercial for Elvis' first Christmas Album from 1957.
Neil Diamond : 'Elvis Presley used to live next door and I remember how his little girl and my son would talk to each other through the link fence.
It seems like every great artist has at least one album in their catalogue that is universally ignored due to the greatness of the album that proceeded it. January and February of 1969 is a month that occupies a special place in rock history, specifically 6 days in January and 5 days in February.
At just 21, Elvis is not yet the most famous person on the planet, but he soon will be. He is sweet, innocent and soft-spoken, but already feels his destiny approaching - his fate to conquer the world with his music and find the girl who can take away his loneliness. Elvis Presley's life changed forever in 1956.

Elvis Presley : New Years Eve, December 31, 1975.
Elvis Presley : New Years Eve Concert : December 31, 1976. While Pittsburghers rang in the New Year Friday night in front of their TV sets with Guy Lombardo, 16,409 others Scorned 1977 with Elvis Presley at the Civic Arena. After three opening acts and a lengthy intermission, Presley unded on stage 35 minutes before midnight, but you would rethought the clock had struck 12. He received an ear-deafening ovation punctuated by thousands of blasts from flash bulbs and a patchwork of 'We-Love-You-Elvis' signs hoisted aloft.
Presley had perhaps the most captive audience since Johnny Cash played Folsom Prison. And rarely did he lose his iron grip on the crowd during his 90 minutes on stage. At the stroke of midnight, the house lights went up and Elvis led the crowd in singing 'Auld Lang Syne'.
In December 1960, RCA was preparing a 'compact 33 EP' to be released in January 1961. But is was not to be, until now. In a recently discovered piece of official RCA paperwork, an 'RCA Listing Notice', shows the preparation for the release, assigning catalogue number 'LPC-123' to the release. For reasons still unknown the release was withdrawn at the very last moment. The title track was 'Love Me' followed by 'Hound Dog', 'Don't Be Cruel' and 'Jailhouse Rock' : of course huge hits for and by Elvis, adding excitement to the release. Now, 52 years later, this EP is finally released to and for the Elvis fans! A fantastic produced release in a stunning and wonderful looking full colour sleeve, like the recent Like A Baby / Make Me Know It'. The EP is available in traditional black coloured vinyl but also in special blue coloured vinyl. ONLY 250 of each!
We have received just a couple of these singles, with our full order NOW on the way to us. From these we have made scans and you can now view the full
blue and
black single outside its sleeve.
Gravelroad Music ends 2012 by bringing you one really great double CD release. Two Hampton concerts in stunning sound. The 'Bicentennial '76' will raise a few questions for the critics as Elvis sounds way better now with a mastering job done properly. The second disc is a great re-mastering of the famous Hampton '72 concert, which blows all previous releases of this show out of the water. Great sound, fantastic dynamics and Elvis in amazing voice. GR gratefully used original transfers from these concerts. Now you can hear many details and nuances not heard previously, and both recordings sounds more vibrant and spatial than before.
The
Follow That Dream Official Collectors label has released the CDs,

The 'GI Blues' vinyl will follow later this month.
Taking on the role of the Wicked Queen in Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, Priscilla Presley proved to be a natural under the spotlight. Starring alongside Jarred Christmas and Warwick Davis she appeared to be in her element while taking in the boos and hisses from the crowd, looking positively evil in her costume, which she described as 'sensational' on the opening night of the show. Wearing a bejeweled horned headpiece with a floor length gown which braved a thigh high split, the actress commanded the audience's attention.
We have just received, literally, a few more copies of the now sold-out FTD SUN Book and 3 CD Set, A Boy From Tupelo : The Complete 1953-55 Recordings. Back in the early 1980s the K-Tel label released some great Elvis compilation albums. All their releases were advertised on radio and TV, so the impact was huge. Most of the albums became gold or platinum award winning albums. With these great albums many fans were first introduced to the wonderful music of Elvis Presley. The 1980 gospel album
Inspirations, is, perhaps, the most successful K-tel album that was released at the time. Now finally available on CD, itcomes in a 4 page booklet with original sleeve notes.

Don Lance, a fan, filmed the afternoon performance on the new 'Prince From Another Planet: 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition' set's DVD. While he has said it before this bears repeating, from a recent interview with Ian Gillan of group Deep Purple when asked, 'how do you define a rock singer? Who in your opinion is the greatest?' His reply -- 'It’s all very different; I don’t think it’s a science but if you were ask me who had the greatest voice in rock music of all time I would have to say a young Elvis Presley, without a doubt. He was the Pavarotti of rock music'.

Bernard Lansky died on Thursday at his home in Memphis. He was 85. The cause was Alzheimer's disease, his granddaughter, Julie Lansky, said. As all Elvis fans will know, Mr Lansky was famous for supplying Elvis with clothing, but of course he was much more. A real gentleman is how we at Elvis Australia would like to describe him after meeting him and corresponding over the years. The news of his death makes for a sad time ...

While the album doesn't feature any outtakes, it does have a substantially expanded track-listing that now features 24 A & B sides and bonus track My Way. The 12-page booklet features both UK and US sleeves, release/chart information and historic overview. From Elvis Presley Boulevard was originally released in 1976 and contained 10 tracks recorded at Elvis' home Graceland. Now we have the original release plus many outtakes over two CDs and a 12-page booklet with historic info and memorabilia as is normal with the Classic albums.
Sony Music will release 'Prince From Another Planet', a Madison Square Garden 40th Anniversary 2 CD / DVD Deluxe Set in 8" x 8" packaging around November 14, however we expect to have our order sometime before the official release. The two remastered CDs are of the June 10th afternoon and evening shows, both remixed by Michael Brauer and a 80 minute DVD with never-before-seen footage of Elvis' performance at the Saturday afternoon show, captured on hand-held camera by a fan, and now acquired by Legacy from that fan decades later for this package. Along with the concert film on the DVD is another video document, the press conference that took place on Friday afternoon before the big weekend. The original MSG release was rush released and as a consequence did not receive the mastering it deserved. This time Michael Brauer states that the sound is awesome and just like being in the Arena with Elvis! One important piece of information is the DVD included in the Box Set has been meticulously synced to the audio ...

+ Plus Bonus DVD Audio.
This is an excellent release no fan should be without it.
The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
