Elvis Sings The Blues ... is a perfect combination making for one very nice listening experience ... The producers of this release also clearly recognized that it was going to be something special and have produced a stunningly beautiful three panel digi-pack, the front cover is ART and it fits the theme perfectly, as does the disc which while not a 'picture disc' as such there has clearly been much though and work put into the design. In addition on opening the flap you will find excellent liner notes ... A wonderful release of the 'classic' 1980 LP done to perfection like no other label can ... This is a limited edition digipack of 500 copies.
Immediately on hearing the first song I played [I started with disc 2] from the 'A Boy From Tupelo' set, [Harbor Lights] I just instantly felt - knew - I was hearing something for the first time, something very GOOD. Updated with
more thoughts after continued listening, along with
other input, and
feedback comments ...

In it's fifth week on the Australian
Album Charts, the
Elvis By Request : The Australian Edition CD has dropped from No. 33 to No. 42. You can now view the updated state chart results. The results to-date - at week five - mirror in some ways those for the
Elvis Presley : 50 Australian Top Ten Hits 1956-1977. While 'Elvis By Request' has a better first two weeks (#4 & #9), and an average of 20.4 from the five weeks, the 'Top Ten Hits' has a better 3rd to 5th weeks with an average of 21.2 from its first five weeks. However this is for interest only, such statistics can be ms-leading. It is much harder to obtain a high chart position in August than in January due to there being a LOT more titles being released. EBR has the potential advantage of still being 'current' for Christmas sales, and Sony do have planned promotions in November to give the album a boost in sales and momentum into December, something 'The Top Ten Hits' did not have.

The DVD is over 1-3/4 hours, with photos, of Larry telling his experiences in greater depth, and many are stories he hasn't told before. In it's second week on the Australian Album Charts, the Elvis By Request : The Australian Edition CD remains in the top ten with strong sales at No. 9. This is a good second week result after being only the second Elvis Presley album since records were reasonably kept [From 1965] to debut at No. 4 in Australia.
Steve Sholes was one of the most influential producers in postwar music; he was responsible not only for the birth of the Nashville Sound, but also for signing Chet Atkins and Elvis Presley to RCA. Sholes was born in Washington, D.C. in 1911, but his family moved to New Jersey in the 1920s, and it was while attending high school in 1929 that he first took a part-time job in sales with RCA-Victor Records. After college, in 1935 he returned to RCA, joining the jazz artists & repertory department. During World War II, while serving in the army, he was responsible for producing 'V-Discs' -- records made for distribution specifically to servicemen overseas as part of the war effort -- by Fats Waller.
The CONVAIR label brings us a rare recording of a great live Elvis performance Elvis at the Las Vegas International Hotel,
August 12, 1969 (Dinner Show) titled,
Bright Light City. Recorded by a fan in the
audience this release is for the collectors. Accompanied by a 20 page booklet telling interesting facts about Elvis' return to live performances in words and pictures it's a very nice collectors-package.
Yesterday, [August 25] Sony Music Australia's Elvis By Request: The Australian Fan Edition arrived here - so I thought I'd take a few moments to present a brief review. Worldwide, but with a special emphasis on Australia, fans were able to select from over 800 Elvis performances in online voting earlier this year. The ranked results of that voting determined the contents of 'Elvis By Request', 40 songs spread over two CDs.
The original 1980 album '
Elvis Sings The Blues' has been released on CD in a limited edition digipack of 500 copies. This re-issue contains the original 15 tracks and several bonus tracks.
Checking on chart statistics we can tell you that Elvis By Request : The Australian Edition CD is only the second Elvis Presley album since records were reasonably kept [From 1965] to debut at No. 4 in Australia. The other album being Elvis : 2nd To None in 2003, however that album had the benefit of the Rubberneckin' remix single [A No. 3 chart hit] as promotion and also being the follow up to the previous year's ultra-smash hit album, ELV1S : 30 #1 Hits. And it is ELV1S : 30 #1 Hits that holds the record with a No. 1 debut and then four weeks in total at No. 1, and with 60 weeks on the charts. Elvis : 2nd To None was on the chart for 16 weeks and has Gold award sales status. But again, not to be out done, ELV1S : 30 #1 Hits is 2 x Platinum. While it is very hard to achieve Gold status today, we do hope that Elvis By Request can achieve this.
The Elvis By Request : The Australian Edition CD has debuted at No. 4 on the Australian ARIA Album Charts. This is the equal highest chart position of any release since ELV1S : 30 #1 Hits [2002] 10 years ago. Three albums, Elvis : 2nd To None [2003], Elvis : The King [2007] and The Romantic [1994] reached No. 4 however not on debut. From The Heart peaked at No. 5 in 1992 and 'Presley : All Time Greatest Hits' No. 7 the previous year. Elvis Presley : 50 Australian Top Ten Hits 1956-1977 debuted at No. 9 in January 2010. The 'Elvis By Request' album contains the 40 favourite Elvis songs as voted for by his Australian fans. To debut at No. 4 is a most remarkable achievement particularly at this time of year. While the album has benefited from some very clever marketing from Sony Music, all the promotion in the world won't sell a turkey, so clearly the concept has appealed as we expected it would. So with a great concept, title, cover art, fan picked track listing and the massive media coverage of the release we have Elvis riding high on the charts once more.
Joey Hadley decided to become a boxer after seeing Elvis in Kid Galahad. He went on to become a successful amateur and professional boxer. In this
video hear Joey share his story of when he met Elvis in Memphis and in Las Vegas. Most people in the Memphis area know Joey Hadley from his traffic reports on radio and television over the last 25 years or as a deputy sheriff with the Shelby county sheriff's office for 29 years. But before he was a deputy or a traffic reporter, he was a very successful amateur and professional boxer. At the age of 13 Joey saw Elvis Presley in the movie Kid Galahad & from that moment on he knew he wanted to become a boxer. Several years later Joey had the privilege of meeting Elvis in Las Vegas.
A new book Once Upon A Time: Elvis And Anita' by Jonnita Brewer Barrett, Anita's daughter is out : The year was 1957. Elvis Presley was on top of the world. Just twenty-two at the time, he was not just the King of Rock 'n' Roll but a handsome prince who had his choice of all the fair maidens in the land, and yet, like a true fairy tale, he fell in love with Anita Wood, a rising musical talent with the looks of a beauty queen. Anita put her own career aside to be with Elvis, her first love and his steady girlfriend for the next five years.

The book 'The Rebel And The King' by Allyson Adams will be released in September. Nick Adams' daughter, Allyson Adams is responsible for the posthumous publishing of this book. As an editor and WaterDancer Press Publisher, she couldn't let her father's story go untold. In the book's foreword she explains: 'I have found my father's story about Elvis to be the last glimpse of innocence before the end of an era. 'The Rebel & The King' is straight from the horse's mouth, as if Nick and Elvis are speaking from the grave.

Using various sources this DVD creates a complete as possible timeline from the years 1969 through 1970; all very important years in the life and career of Elvis Presley. Starting with the winter holiday in 1968/1969 and ending with the very first tour of the USA at the end of 1970; all that and in between is shown on this very nice DVD. Bill Monroe wrote
Blue Moon of Kentucky and recorded it with his Bluegrass Boys in 1946, and Columbia released it the next year. This little waltz became a hit. Then producer
Sam Phillips, bassist
Bill Black, guitarist
Scotty Moore, and a 19-year-old kid, who had just secured a job as a truck driver and was planning to marry his girlfriend,
Dixie Locke --tore the thing to shreds. But what came out was so good that even Monroe re-recorded it himself in 4/4 time rather than the original 3/4 after hearing--and seeing--Elvis perform it and at the
Louisiana Hayride.
Mae Boren Axton interviews Elvis Presley, she promoted the Hank Snow All-Star Jamboree where Elvis appeared. It was the first time Elvis met Mae and she gave him the song Heartbreak Hotel, which she had written. A few month later, Elvis recorded it, and made it famous.
President Nixon has been credited with a body language first with his
handshake with Elvis Presley in 1970 by a body language expert.
Audionics will release new 2-CD set in early August: 'Autumn Gold'. The South Bend date was originally issued in 2003 by the Follow That Dream Collectors label [Dragon Heart] but 'Killing Me Softly With His Song' and some stage dialogue were omitted, and the closing vamp was clipped.
September 12, 1957 in a black Cadillac rolls up to the Little Shamrock Cafe. In the car were musicians and a singer, they had just performed a concert in Houston and they were now on their way North, they just needed to have a little breakfast first. Aline Landrum was at work this September morning, it was she who had the honor of Elvis Presley and the servers lineage of breakfast. And Elvis Presley Eggs, bacon, cheese, coffee, pancakes, chocolate cake, and Pepsi Cola. And Aline has the photos to proove it.
More awards for Elvis are being presented this year from the Recording Industry of America (RIAA). There are ten new sales awards amoung them, gold, platinum, multi-platinum and a Diamond award.
A new Elvis Presley recording has been discovered and played online and we have the video and audio for you. The song is
I Forgot To Remember To Forget from a Louisiana Hayride performance in 1955. The recording is said to be audio taped from a TV broadcast, just audio the actual film does not exist.
FTD have released the G.I. Blues FTD 2 CD Special Edition Classic Album [Vol. 1], in the classic album series. It is now time for the first volume of 'G.I. Blues' material. As always in a 7" inch digi pack format with booklet. However, this time without the In-and-Outtakes section, which will be featured in Volume 2, in order to summarize all the G.I. BLUES recordings. A lot of effort (and money) has gone into making these the best sounding 'G.I. Blues' recordings ever. So this will be a very special and the ultimate release!!!
FTD have released 'From Hawaii To Las Vegas'. The CD is in the 5" digi pack series. The rehearsal was recorded from the soundboard at Elvis' January 25, 1973 Las Vegas dress rehearsal for his January/February season at The Las Vegas Hilton. The rough audio is more than compensated by the fascinating insight into how Elvis worked in order to create his shows. With little talk and a lot of music we are invited to a first row presentation of what he had in mind and yet he decided to change the repertoire the very next day. Among the many songs is 'Separate Ways', rehearsed with and without the orchestra, a song that Elvis chose to never perform in public. So an interesting CD release and one to look forward too.
In the spring of 1960, a Dutch housewife named Nel Dankers-van Kuijk visited her hairdresser in Eindhoven, and thumbed through the new issue of Rosita, a Belgian women's magazine. There she saw a photograph that stopped her heart. A young American singing star, Elvis Presley, just home from the army in his handsome dress blues, waved to his fans from the doorway of a train. But it was the big man standing behind him who caught her eye. He looked so much like her younger brother Jan?
The Elvis Files Vol. 5 1969-1970 is bigger and better than ever, weighing in at massive 3.7kg [8 pounds] with 560 pages and 1600 photos and set out by date chronologically. There are lots of unseen/unpublished amazing photos of Elvis Presley with over 200 newly discovered photos published here for the first time. As with the previous volumes in this Elvis Files series [7 books in total] all the 'Elvis events' in the time period of 1969-1970 are shown with full information. Also included are all the recording sessions (Both Film & Studio), interviews, the movies, everything from 1969-1970. The articles by people likes of Mike Eder, original newspaper reports, recording info and more, it's no exaggeration to say this is one hell of a great book, a must have book for any fan. This book takes us through two years of Elvis' life, at a time when he arguably never looked better with some amazing photos, historic events and articles and much more as outlined here.

show you some extra pictures of the upcoming SUN Bible A Boy From Tupelo : The Complete 1953-55 Recordings : Book & 3 CD Set, Ernst Jorgenson's masterpiece. The book is loaded with unseen pictures. It's hard to believe that so many photos were taken prior to 1956, in an era where photography was 'new technology'. Well, all the pictures are here for the first time with the exact dates and exact names of posing fans such as - see picture in the middle - Marileon Hopkins. Also note both pictures below. On the left is Onie Wheeler, on the right is Elvis. Notice something special? Indeed, Onie allowed Elvis to wear his country style jacket for one night. Same jacket, but a world of difference. And that's even without the 3 CD's! Our advice: since there won't be a reprint, we recommend that you pre order your copy, so you don't have to worry about paying too much afterwards.

80 tracks (!), and though there are a few Sun recordings present to place the other recordings into their proper perspective (including a few real rarities like the SUN rehearsal of 'How Do You Think I Feel'), the majority of tracks are from the early 60s to '77.

The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
