SUNsational : From Sunrise to Sunset 1953-1977 (Victrola) : The continuing influence of SUN Records on Elvis' career : At first sight this may seem like yet another SUN anthology, but nothing could be further from the truth. Actually, this groundbreaking release focuses on the influence of SUN records on Elvis' career after he left the label. This 2CD-set contains almost 80 tracks (!), and though there are a few Sun recordings present to place the other recordings into their proper perspective (including a few real rarities like the SUN rehearsal of 'How Do You Think I Feel'), the majority of tracks are from the early 60s to '77.

The Wall Street Journal is crediting Elvis for giving Hawaiian shirts a boost in popularity in a recent article about designers trying new patterns. In an article titled 'When Designers Meddle With Hawaiian Shirts', the Wall Street Journal says, 'The shirts got a celebrity boost after Elvis Presley sported one of designer Alfred Shanheen's Hawaiian shirts on the cover of the Blue Hawaii movie soundtrack album'.

An American Trilogy did not chart in Australia but is currently in the No. 1 spot, likewise, Little Egypt also did not chart and rounds out our sample at No. 10. Edge Of Reality was a unique Australian hit reaching No. 2 in January 1969 and has so far been voted as the 4th most popular song.

[This is half our order with a second box is due to arrive any time now] We had seen all the artwork and so usually the finished product presents no surprises however with a nice sturdy cardboard outer sleeve it really feels like you have something substantial in your hands. And the cover photo continues to mesmerize, as we packed each individual order today it was a continual delight to view the cover as one was picked up and packed right after another. On the inside there is the white inner sleeve, and then the disc itself, with a nice white label proclaiming RCA Victor and 'not for sale' [Which it is!!!]

One of the most interesting things to hear as you listen to these performances is the confidence that Elvis clearly gains with each appearance, becoming more assertive and aggressive as he performs for the fans. Along with Elvis' increasing level of comfort, it's also interesting to hear the fan reactions with each subsequent appearance. From polite applause for his first appearance to outright pandemonium by the time he gave his final performance, listeners can clearly hear the increased excitement that Elvis caused ... David English author of the FTD book release; Welcome Home Elvis has contacted us with some extra - and very interesting - information about the book. In regard to the CD we were most interested to learn that the mono CD of Elvis Is Back, was recently found in the UK. There has been plenty of speculation as to exactly what the master was. Then we have four [4] new pages of sample text from the book. As David explains; 'The idea first came to me to write an article about the Elvis Is Back Sessions, which then became too large, and it then expanded over a period of two years. This originally consisted of mainly text of each song having a detailed history, with songwriters, musicians, (in the form of the book 'Writing for the King') The book then expanded further to include the Sinatra Timex show and now consists of the journey to Miami using original newspaper articles and photos which have probably not been seen since they were originally written.

Elvis Presley's Ferrari Dino 308 GT4
1:18 diecast model of Elvis Presley's Ferrari Dino 308 GT4. The 308 GT4 is a very important car in Ferrari's history: it was their first road car to have a mid-engine, V8 layout. It was also the first Ferrari to sport bodywork designed by Bertone. Elvis decided to buy the black Dino in October 1976, and add it to his already extensive collection of exotic cars. The Ferrari is currently on display at the Elvis Presley Automobile Museum in Graceland. Mattel has done a great job replicating the King’s Dino. The spoked wheels look very nice, and we're particularly impressed that Mattel has recreated the car's orange oil filter.
Joan Deary and Elvis Presley
Joan Deary was executive in charge of the Elvis' catalog for RCA records. Deary joined RCA in 1954 as Steve Sholes secretary. In 1972 she became assistant to RCA vice president Harry Jenkins, whose job it was to handle the Elvis Presley material. She produced many albums for RCA, including the Elvis Aron Presley 25th Anniversary Album set. Deary worked out of the rca building in hollywood until her retirement in 1987.

Another Saturday Night FTD 5" Soundboard Concert CD
FTD will release Another Saturday Night in their 5" Soundboard Concert CD series at the end of April. If one place is to be picked as the most important in the career of Elvis Presley, it is without doubt Shreveport in the northwest part of Louisiana. The exposure that Elvis got through the radio broadcast of The Louisiana Hayride in 1954-56 was one of the key factors of establishing the early part of his career. With the exception of Las Vegas, there is no place where Elvis played more shows, and his return to the city in 1975 was like a homecoming to both Elvis and the many fans he had there since he started out. FTD have chosen to release the soundboard from the evening show of June 7, definitely a show that Elvis and the audience truly enjoy, and with a great set list featuring old and new favourites. 5" digipack with an eight-page booklet.

No Memphis Airport Name Change
Last month Elvis Australia promoted both the petition to rightfully acknowledge Memphis' greatest icon with the renaming to rename Memphis Airport to 'Elvis Presley International Airport'. The name switch seems unlikely to happen. Marty Lacker who also wrote to the airport authority received a very clear letter from Larry Cox the Director of the Memphis airport regarding the campaign. The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
