Elvis Presley Boulevard to Get Overhaul
Elvis Presley Boulevard is one of the most traveled roads in Memphis, but many argue the sight beyond the Graceland Estate is not fit for a king. 'It's really not becoming', said Whitehaven resident Yvonne D. Nelson. 'It's more of an eyesore'. Over the years, part of Elvis Presley Boulevard in between Brooks Road and Shelby Drive has fallen into disrepair. Trash and blight litter the street, and the roads are in poor condition. Citizens argue it's a poor showing in an area that is crowded with tourists arriving to see Elvis' estate.
Worldwide comeback for vinyl albums
Vinyl albums are back again. Sales of the 'new old records' on 33 rpm skyrocketed last year with 39% increase compared to 2010. Worldwide, over 3.9 million vinyl albums were sold last year. Elvis is among the most popular artists for vinyl collectors, due to the many re-releases of his former albums. The Official Elvis Presley FTD Collector's label have begun re-releasing Elvis' entire catalogue on vinyl records.

After the great success of Arcade's Elvis 40 Greatest (1975), K-Tel England wanted to release a follow-up in 1979. They bought the rights from RCA for 20 well-known ballads and released them on the Love Songs album. From the start, the TV album was a huge success. It reached No. 4 in the charts with sales of approx 250.000 copies sold within 12 months! It was an instant chart topper all over Europe and in many other countries (in Argentina and Brazil it was released as Love Collection). So now, the Love Songs album on CD.

In the 1950's there was a record label in Memphis called Satellite Records. Its founders were Jim Stewart and his sister Estelle Axton. They moved their business to the old Capitol Theatre and in 1961 Stewart took the first two letters of his last name and the first two letters from his sister's last name and made a new label called STAX Records. Their design for their logo was a falling stack of records. STAX Records became known in the 60's and 70's as the place to go to record soul music. Such famous recording artists as Issac Hayes, Booker T. and The MGs, Ottis Redding, Rufus Thomas, the Bar-Kays, and the Staples Singers all recorded there.

Paul Evans was born March 5, 1938, Queens, New York). He is an American rock and roll singer and songwriter, who was most prominent in the 1950s and 1960s. As a performer, he had hits with the songs 'Seven Little Girls (Sitting in the Back Seat)' (his biggest hit, reaching #9 on the Billboard Hot 100), 'Midnite Special' and 'Happy-Go-Lucky Me'. But of interest to us here is Paul's songwriting and the songs of his Elvis chose to perform and record.

And also a brief look at the other titles released in the series so far. This is because I had my doubts about this release.

I would like to say the MRS / JAT Productions release of The Complete Louisiana Hayride Archives 1954-1956 CD is a dream come true but I can't as there was no anticipation something like this would ever be released. For years now we have had the basic el cheapo compilation of the basic tracks but now we have a full CD with a running time of over 75 minutes that gives a very good overview of Elvis in concert in the 1950s.
Billboard Change Rules and Cheats Elvis of Ten [10] more No. 1 Hits
Billboard have yet again changed the 'rules' applying to the main prestigious Billboard Hot 100 Chart that was first launched on August 4th 1958 removing ten [10] Elvis Presley's number one hits [Not 11 as some have claimed] from his ledger. Now important to proving that Billboard have indeed changed the rules, something denied even by EPE in a message to Fan Clubs this past week is that in April 2008* they ruled that Elvis' classic double sided number one hit single, Hound Dog / Don't Be Cruel would no longer be counted as two separate number ones despite the fact they had done so since 1956. Elvis 40 Greatest Hits : 1975 Compilation CD Release
Another classic Elvis compilation is to be released on bootleg, this time the 1975 'Elvis 40 Greatest Hits' compilation. It was the UK's 5th best selling album of 1975 and the 6th best selling LP of the 1970s. It topped the charts for ten weeks and part of its success was due, undoubtedly, to the fact that it was advertised widely on TV - the first album ever to be promoted in this way. RCA also later released this album in October 1978, when it reached #40 in a 14 week chart run. This release contains over 2 and a half hours of some of the greatest Elvis Presley recordings including 18 rare and hard to find tracks.

Loving You director Hal Kanter dies at 92
Hal Kanter, an Emmy Award-winning comedy writer, and a director and producer whose career included writing for Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, directing Elvis Presley and creating a landmark 1960s TV series starring Diahann Carroll, has died. He was 92. He directed Elvis Presley in the 1957 movie Loving You, which Kanter co-wrote and he wrote the screenplay for Elvis Presley's 1961 film Blue Hawaii.

For a period of four days, the RIAA database had accredited Elvis with two diamond sales awards for what was basically the same LP, the 1970 versions of 'Elvis' Christmas Album', thereby also showing an increase of 10 Million in Elvis’ sales tally, and taking it to 143 accredited sales in the USA. These errors have now been corrected. So, the RIAA says Elvis now has 90 albums that are Gold, of which 50 are Platinum, 25 are at the Multi-Platinun level, and 1 has reached the 10 Million sales Diamond status. Read the full story.

The Complete Louisiana Hayride Archives 1954-1956 CD From MRS
Coming in 2011 from the 'Memphis Recording Service', in association with 'Joseph A Tunzi' (JAT Productions), is a release for the first time on CD, the complete live recordings of the Louisiana Hayride performances by Elvis Presley, The Complete Louisiana Hayride Archives 1954-1956. All of the 29 tracks therein are re-mastered using the most sophisticated technology. It will include restored and more complete versions of many of the tracks than ever before. The CD will also contain the recent discovery of Elvis' last performance on the Louisiana Hayride in December 1956. This will be a more complete version of the show and for the first time, be speed and pitch corrected, which Sony has failed to master for their upcoming release. This CD will be presented exactly the same as the MRS release Off Duty With Private Presley Book Deluxe CD set and Tupelo Welcomes Home Elvis Presley : Deluxe CD set. Blu-Ray for Aloha From Hawaii and the '68 Comeback Special?
We asked Scott Williams, Vice President of Marketing and Media at EPE about the possibilities of blu-ray releases of the Aloha From Hawaii and ’68 Comeback Special, and he has explained to us that they are presented with difficulties due to the way both were filmed. As both were filmed for television and not the cinema screen the lower quality presents a problem in that it would be to evident in the high resolution blu-ray format. So it is a big challenge. They are checking some other technologies with their technical guys and who knows what sort of things may be developed in the future. Scott tells us that they want to make blu-ray releases happen as bad as the fans that use blu-ray. Let's all hope they can find a way!
48 Hours To Memphis Sounboard Concert CD
48 Hours To Memphis CD is derived from what must have been a full professional 16-track multi track recording, the sound is absolutely great, and Elvis is in top form. The booklet is full of great pictures from the actual show and informative notes. The CD comes in a 7" digi format with a 16 page booklet. Contrary to previous informal information given, please be advised that this is a mono release. This concert was recorded 2 days before Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis. This CD will be released by FTD mid October.

The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
