Make no mistake this book is an important release, and essential, and to make it more so it is just one part of what will be a six volume set that no one will ever want to part with, the highlight of any bookshelf.
At this time it is the subject of much publicity and legal action. EPE have made a public statement that they have taken legal action to stop an announced bootleg release and have begun action against two Elvis fans in the UK and USA over the matter. This has angered many Elvis fans worldwide who simply want to be able to watch Elvis' final TV Special. And if EPE's own website is to be believed, so do they.
EPE:
It's not that we don't want the fans to have this footage or that we don't know how much it would mean to them. We do.
There just simply is no way to get it only to the real fans (
and we've exhausted all kinds of ideas) ... It seems to us that Boxcar seemed to have the perfect solution. So what is the excuse now?

Lamar Fike one of Elvis' very best friends has passed away. Lamar first met Elvis in 1954 and began working for him in 1957. Lamar stayed a close friend of Elvis throughout the years, often providing the humour that helped Elvis and the gang get through the tough days. Lamar Fike also worked for Hill and Range music publishers and brought several major songs to Elvis' sessions including 'Kentucky Rain' and 'Indescribably Blue'. Lamar travelled with Elvis after he went back on tour, working as the lighting director. He was with Elvis until he died. Lamar was well-known for his sense of humour and his outspoken honesty.

Lasting 14 seasons and 431 episodes, it ranks as the second longest running western series (behind Gunsmoke). Elvis was a big fan of Bonanza and had his picture taken with 'Pa' (actor

Gravel Road have released 'Good To Be Back', a fantastic CD that is every bit as good as the highly acclaimed 'Return of the Prodigy'. The December 13th, 1975 Midnight Show is widely accepted as one of the finest later-period Presley shows available on soundboard. Yes, the punk lounge rock feel of the '69 shows was now gone, but in its place is a warmth and intimacy that were just as captivating in their own way.
Sony Music will release Elvis Is Back!: Legacy Edition (2-CD) on March 1st. This is an odd but interesting release as it combines both Elvis' classic album, Elvis Is Back with his second, non movie, secular album released after he returned from the army, Something For Everybody. This upgraded CD features the original LP tracks as well as the 12 songs chosen for singles for each respective album, and every track is sublime. Both CDs highlight how the addition of the single releases (It's Now Or Never, A Mess Of Blues, Are You Lonesome Tonight? and His Latest Flame, Little Sister, Good Luck Charm) of the time would have benefited each album if some or all had been added.

'The heart is a funny thing, with a mind all its own ... It withers like a garden ... Left untended and alone ... And the thorns of loneliness invade, to destroy what they can't steal ... So easy to hurt ... but oh so hard to heal'.

Today (January 8, 2011), Elvis Presley would have turned 76. In celebration of the anniversary of his birthday, our good friend, Elvis historian and author Joseph Tunzi (JAT Publishing) has compiled a list of what he considers to be the King's top ten television vocal performances. Counting down from ....
Edison Pena, the Chilean miner who led Elvis sing-alongs for his colleagues while trapped underground for 69 days visited Graceland on Friday. This is a 'good news' story, however this brings to mind the many lost lives recently in new Zealand, where none of the traped miners survived. As I write this it is January 8, 2010 here in Australia, so today as we remember Elvis Presley on what would have been his 76th birthday, I would like to ask you to remember those who are also unfortunately not with us today.
I wanted to give you all a great big THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for all that you did for my mother. Not only when she was ill, but all the support you gave her during the years of touring, as well as, listening and purchasing her music. Many of you followed her closely and she loved you for that.

Oh, and it is massive; 2kg - over 500 pages - 29cm x 22cm - Hardcover, printed on glossy paper, color and black & white photos.

Elvis Presley and Colonel Tom Parker : New Years Eve, December 31, 1975. This may very well be the last picture of Elvis and
Colonel Parker together, taken on New Year's Eve 1975, 35 years ago, shortly before Elvis went on stage for his first new Years Eve concert since 1955. Elvis would do his third in 1976.

In honor of the holiday season, today I'm going to talk about Elvis' 1967 Christmas special. Wait, wait, wait. Don't fire off a correction message to me just yet. Yes, I said 1967 Christmas special. That was not a typo.

Priscilla Presley has paid tribute to her late NAKED GUN co-star
Leslie Nielsen in a heartfelt magazine essay. The funnyman died of complications from pneumonia, aged 84, last month (Nov10) and Presley decided to put her thoughts about him into words for a new Entertainment Weekly magazine article.
What if Elvis had been able to follow his heart and not sing in the movies? What we do know, however, is that 241 of Elvis' recordings were made specifically for movie projects. While losing songs like 'Queenie Wahine's Papaya' from his career catalog would surely not have been detrimental, a fair number of more impressive songs would also be gone. With that in mind, here is my top 25 list of Elvis' greatest movie songs.
In a recent interview with Bruce Springsteen by Dave Marsh about Bruce's new 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' release, Bruce was asked by a fan how Elvis' death affected the songs on the album:

When Lizabeth Scott went to Los Angeles in 1944, she dropped the 'E' from her first name. There were lots of Elizabeths in Hollywood, but no Lizabeth. Changing her name to something unique fit right in with the film industry's appetite for new and unique talent. (She legally changed her name to Lizabeth Scott in 1949.)

Elvis : The Gospel Collection is a great collection of gospel songs. The CD has 16 selections, both studio and live versions of
How Great Thou Art and a couple of surprises. The first is the live medley of three gospel songs, not available elsewhere in this sequence,
Help Me;
Why Me Lord;
How Great Thou Art and
O Little Town of Bethlehem is from the
Elvis Christmas Duets CD with Karen Fairchild & Kimberly Schlapman (uncredited). The sound quality is incredible. Sony outdid themselves with this CD release. An exceptional CD.
Audionics will release the CD, In The Heart Of Georgia, recorded live from the mixing desk in Macon Coliseum, Macon, GA, Thursday, April 24, 1975. Twelve years after the first release of this show on CD, Audionics delivers a more complete version of Elvis Presley's 1975 tour opener, as taken from the mixing desk. Originally released as part of the 'From Vegas To Macon' set, this recording was faded out during 'I'll Remember You' and there were a few tracks missing. However, these tracks were recorded by the sound engineer and these unreleased tracks are included here for the first time! The setlist is very interesting because it features a lot of recent material, with virtually no 'oldies'. There's 'It's Midnight' and 'Promised Land' from the December '73 STAX sessions, 'Fairytale' and 'T.R.O.U.B.L.E.' from the recent TODAY sessions, as well as a welcome return of 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me'. Elvis sounds a bit tired here and there, but he's also full of fun. 'My name is Johnny Cash ... it's a pleasure to be back here in Atlanta, uh, Macon' he jokes.
Straight Arrow is planning a new 2CD release with a gorgeous 16-page booklet: '

good audience recording source.
Sony Music have released the CD, '
Blue Christmas'. The CD features 16 tracks with three being clearly different with new orchestra string arrangements. And sounding very nice.
Winter Wonderland, The First Noel and
If I Get Home On Christmas Day. As each has the year 2008 after the title it maybe these are taken from unused overdubbed tracks from the
Christmas Duets release in 2008. However there is a credit 'Thanks to Roger Semon and FTD' so they may have provided some alternate takes. But they do sound more like overdubs, but from 1971 or 2008? Released at the same time is the
Elvis : The Gospel Collection CD.
Joining the 'Viva Elvis' CD is the
Viva Elvis - The Album 180 gram 12" audiophile vinyl. Made in Europe this release features the standard 12 song track list. 'Viva Elvis' re-imagines the King's own vocal performances in a broad variety of new musical settings. The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
