Legendary American actor Tony Curtis died September 30, 2010 at the age of 85 years. Elvis Presley went on the record to credit his famous, rolling coif hairdo to Curtis' influence. Tony met Elvis in 1960 when he was filming The Rat Race at Paramount Studios. Elvis was a fan of Curtis' from watching his films in Memphis theaters and it is even rumored that Elvis copied Curtis' 'ducktail' hairstyle in the '50s.

The

When one hears 'Elvis Presley' what exactly comes to mind? Talent? Wealth? Fame and Fortune? What is usually overlooked is the fact that before all of that was possible, Elvis needed to grow up, be nurtured, educated and try his hand at forging relationships and find religion. All of this took place in East Tupelo and Tupelo from birth to age thirteen when Elvis' family made the move to Memphis, Tennessee. Wanda Powell Heagy is also a native of East Tupelo and shares growing up in practically the same environment as Elvis separated by only a few years. Most Elvis fans have a general idea of Elvis' background, but this engaging book gives the reader a much better understanding of Elvis' surroundings and relationships than ever before.

Elvis and Kerouac: They both idolised James Dean- and Bob Dylan idolised them. Elvis and Jack Kerouac, the legendary Beat novelist, were America's most iconic rebels in the late 1950s. In their different ways, they revolutionised culture and changed millions of lives- including their own. In many ways, singer and novelist seemed to inhabit different worlds but their lives were full of intriguing- and till now largely ignored- parallels: powerful matriarchs, mourned siblings and the tragic realisation of the imprisoning power of fame ...

Roger Ebert wrote in 1968 that 'Speedway is the late show of 20 years from now'. While Ebert meant it in a derogatory way, he did at least hit on one key thing about the films of Elvis Presley, and that is that
they have indeed survived. More than survived, they have
prospered and despite the suspect quality of some of them, for millions of people all over the world they continue to resonate far more than most 'great' movies you care to name. I would argue though that there are some really good movies ...
Elvis Presley's self-titled first LP is unarguably one of the most important albums in rock history. Not only is it the first album by the genre's most successful and influential figure, but it is also the first genuine smash LP of the rock era. Its success in the spring and summer of 1956 would signal that it would be the long player and not the single that would come to dominate the sixties and onwards.
Return Of The King is a well written and researched effort by Gaar, that also contains just enough new information to qualify as a welcome addition to any Elvis fan's library. It is also one of the more engrossing reads about Elvis' 'comeback years' to come down the pike in awhile.
The follow up to Straight Arrow's
Faded Love CD is 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me' due for release in early August. The showdate is February 21, 1973 D.S. Like 'Faded Love' it is a two mike ambience recording.

Elvis Presley received a golden crown - and a standing ovation at the conclusion of his unprecedented satellite live TV concert beamed to a global audience of over 1.5 billion in the wee hours of the morning yesterday. This is the original review by Wayne Harada : Honolulu Advertiser (1973).
About two weeks after meeting The Beatles, Elvis finally decided on recording a gospel album. He wanted everyone to know that 'there's more to me than a lot of people might think'. Increasingly dissatisfied with the direction his career was taking, Elvis wanted to express himself creatively in new ways.

Elvis, The Beauty Queen & Me Volume II originally announced in May is still in production but expected to be completed 'soon'. This second volume with Jeanne LeMay is now almost complete. The majority of this DVD was filmed during Jeanne's trip to the UK in 2008. She was captured talking candidly about her time with Elvis at Graceland, on tour and in Vegas. She openly discusses how she was able to enjoy a close relationship with Elvis through her friendship with Linda Thompson, how she became a secretary at Graceland and what went on during those years. Her memories of those times are funny, fascinating and extremely riveting.
Elvis made television and entertainment history with his 'Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii - Via Satellite' concert.
Elvis is Johnny Cash, for a young teenage girl in 1957 he was. She came down the aisle and stopped next to Elvis, her eyes wide with disbelief. 'Johnny Cash!' she said in an excited whisper. We started laughing, but Elvis quickly hushed us and started talking to the girl. She told him how much she loved his records, and how she'd been to one of his shows. Finally, she asked. 'Johnny, would you sing me one of your songs?' ...
Bill Porter, sound engineer on many of Elvis' recordings died on July 7, 2010. Bill recorded nearly all of Elvis' number one hits upon his return from the Army and mixed the sound for Elvis' concerts from 1970 to 1977.
Connie Francis: The first time I saw Elvis in person was shortly after his mother died. He was in the audience front row center at the Sahara in Las Vegas. Knowing that, I was just dying to meet him after the show.
I sang 'Mama' and he started to cry and left the showroom. That was it that night.

Every day is a discovery at Elvis Presley’s Graceland in Memphis, and never has that been more true than when the negatives for three never before seen photos of Elvis were uncovered this summer in a collection of papers found in the Graceland office of Elvis' father, Vernon Presley.
Or have they? ...

Christmas Today includes a beautiful, 16-page, full color booklet, with relevant photos and notes. It is cleverly designed so that half is dedicated to CD 1's Christmas songs, and the other half to the Today material on CD 2. A fan may position their preferred cover in the CD case! This Venus release is an essential purchase, most especially for the unreleased moments and fantastic fidelity. Elvis Presley could still thrill a listener in the 1970s, and proof of how hard he worked to do it is found on this compilation.
It was in 1973 that
Vernon Presley wrote and recorded this song called 'Don't Close Your Door', it's the only known recording of Vernon singing, it was originally contained on an audiotape, but it has now been re-mastered. The lyrics are said to be about the marital troubles that Vernon was having with his second wife, Dee at the time.
Harold Loyd: Vernon had a darn good voice. I believe that if he'd ever really tried, he could have made something out of himself. Gladys, Vernon and Elvis, loved to sing, and they had a lot of rhythm.
Welcome To The Jungle : Solitaire is a wonderful compilation of released and unreleased tracks recorded in February 1976. ' There was a man, a lonely man....' is certainly a line the rock singer had on his mind during those early February winter nights behind Graceland's walls, and he felt Neil Sedaka's song could work very well for him. On this CD you can hear the progress from the very first take through the master take.
Never before have we seen an Elvis Presley concert from the 1950's with sound. Until Now! The DVD Contains recently discovered unreleased film of Elvis performing 6 songs, including Heartbreak Hotel and Don't Be Cruel, live in Tupelo Mississippi 1956. Included we see a live performance of the elusive Long Tall Sally seen here for the first time ever.
+ Plus Bonus DVD Audio.
This is an excellent release no fan should be without it.
The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
