The new Elvis Presley Tribute Show for 2010 is a classy and dynamic tribute that incorporates The King's greatest performances like 'Suspicious Minds', 'All Shook Up', 'Return To Sender' and many, many others. Leadsinger
Robert Washington's electrifying vocals capture the raw power and intensity of 'the real thing', while the inclusion of Elvis associates
Duke Bardwell on bass and
Michael Jarrett on keyboards add a great deal of authenticity to this remarkable show. This remarkable show is not to be missed!
Jerry Schilling, former Elvis aid and closely involved in the making of '
Elvis On Tour' in 1972 has confirmed that the DVD that will be released later this year, will not contain any extras. The movie is property of Warner Bros while the outtakes are owned by Turner Classics. Both parties tried to come to an agreement, but unfortunately the negotiations were unsuccesful.
A spark that helped ignite Elvis Presley's fame more than 50 years ago was lit by the newspaper editors and critics who hated him. A new exhibit opening March 19 traces Elvis' rise in the 1950s - in part a study in image management by his longtime manager,
Col. Tom Parker - to his meeting with President Richard Nixon at the White House in 1970. It will include rare objects from Presley's life, some never before displayed outside of
Graceland and others never before publicly displayed anywhere.
Do you want to make your brand relevant in today's mercurial consumer market? Then set yourself apart. Find one simple truth. Specialize. Be consistent. And be original. Brent Niemuth, creative director/brand evangelist for consultancy J. Schmid & Associates referenced the genesis of Elvis Presley's career.
It was with Presley that Aaron Schroeder had his greatest success, co-writing no fewer than five chart-topping hits for the singer.
A Big Hunk o' Love in 1959 was followed in 1960 with

Vee Tone Records will release a CD
The Memphis Jukebox Vol. 1 on March 15. The CD will contain 22 records found in Elvis' personal jukebox, as detailed in Record Collector's 'The Secret of Elvis' Jukebox'.
Personally I have always reckoned that Elvis was at the top of his vocal powers in AD 1960. He had superb vocal control and exceptional range and he had improved vocally at least from the rawness (albeit a very very appealing rawness) of the 1950's. This is a tremendous collection of stunning ballads and the rocking 'I slipped I stumbled I fell'. The outtakes are interesting and I haven't got tired of listening to 27 versions of 5 songs. Interestingly 'Husky Dusky Day' also appears and though very short (50 seconds) it is quite an amusing little ditty sung in duet with the lovely Hope Lang. One of the best FTD releases by far!
Elvis: Encore Performance IV: Back in the Windy City Book will be released April 1st. This Special JAT Presentation will be a hard cover book will cover eight performances by Elvis in Chicago and features 200 photographs (colour and black & white), close to 150 being previously unpublished.
As commemorations of the 75th anniversary of the birth of Elvis Presley continue, Shout! Factory on March 2 will release '
Elvis', marking the first time that the well-regarded television miniseries has been available on DVD. Made in 1979, just two years after Presley's death, 'Elvis' is a high-class exercise in hagiography, presenting the musical legend as his fans would want to remember him.

Visitors to Prestwick Airport in Scotland will be all shook up when they celebrate the 50th anniversary of Elvis touching down at the airport.
March 3 1960 saw the then 25-year-old Elvis Presley land at Prestwick for his plane to refuel on his way home after two years' military service in Germany. Now, 50 years on, the airport is keen to celebrate perhaps the most famous stopover in Scottish history.

'Viva Elvis' is a winner ...

Elvis was a fan of most anything on wheels and the king's love of cars is featured in a new print advertising campaign from BMW. While serving in the U.S. Army and stationed in Germany, Elvis was known to drive a German made BMW. Through a licensing deal with Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc., a classic photograph that shows Elvis getting into a BMW is the iconic imagery used in this new print ad by the automaker, appearing in the March issue of Vanity Fair.

'Listening to these CDs, it's obvious why he was such a huge success and is still adored. Elvis' sound was a blueprint for what would come later, built on a base of Delta blues and hip-shaking gospel. Elvis changed everything: sex, politics and especially music'. Jarrad Bevan -

Teenagers in the 1950s and '60s turned Elvis Presley into an icon. His shaking hips and curled lips sent rock 'n' roll shockwaves reverberating around the world and challenged prevailing notions about sex, race and class. As we celebrated what would have been his 75th birthday on January 8th, we should take note of the impact he had on the culture. He emerged from his impoverished childhood in Tupelo, Mississippi to become America's pop culture superstar ... His controversial singing style, mixing blues, country (at the time called 'hillbilly'), and black and white gospel music with a sexually charged stage presence, made Presley 'Public Enemy Number One' for those who felt threatened by the tsunami of the changes that were occurring.

Elvis 75: Good Rockin' Tonight is packaged in a sturdy black box that contains an 80-page booklet with lots of iconic photographs. More importantly, the sound quality is first rate. The songs sound bright and shiny, the way this kind of pop music should be. One can hear every nuance of the King's voice, whether he's hitting a low note, sighing into the microphone, or reaching back for operatic effect.
'Farid told me that one day at his high school, some of the school bullies started teasing him, calling him names like 'you dirty Arab' and threatened to hit him. He said Elvis came along and said, 'Hey, you leave him alone. I know him and his family and they are very nice people. Those 'Arabs' treat me well and you better treat him well also'. The bullies moved off and Elvis told Farid that if anybody ever tried that again, he should let Elvis know'.

title.

The new label Rocky proudly presents a totally unpublished concert, Help Me Make It In Pittsburgh, from June 26, 1973 in Pittsburgh. A special day, as it is the 64th birthday of the Colonel and Elvis congratulates him in the show. A really good performance in best audience recording quality with many bonus tracks complete this CD, amongst others the spoken version of
What Now My Love from February 23, 1973.

So what's the sense in the latest - '
Elvis 75: Good Rockin' Tonight'? Ernst: With the new technology we can transfer the tape with a higher resolution. We can work with it in 24-bit, 32-bit environment, and make sure we get as close to the exact sound as the analog tape. We've taken every one of Elvis' 711 masters and tried to do a better job on them. On some the improvement will be more important than on others.
James Reyne has recorded an album containing his versions of songs that have been made famous by Elvis Presley. The album is titled TCB and is to be released on April 9, 2010. James Reyne is well known in Australia both as a solo artist and an original member of the the band Australian Crawl. Today I recieved an advance copy of the CD and to my ears the highlights are
Burning Love,
Girls, Girls, Girls and
Return To Sender.
The next release from Straight Arrow (SA 2009-14-02), will be the
audience recorded Las Vegas December 4th, 1976 Dinner show. Together with Opening night (released as 'Last Vegas Opening Night', SA 2009-12A/B-02) it is the strongest concert of Elvis' last Las Vegas season, containing excellent performances of 'Tryin' To Get To You', 'America', 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', 'Hurt' and 'How Great Thou Art'. An absolute highlight is a mesmerizing recitation of 'What Now My Love'.
Suzi Quatro has finally visited Elvis Presley's
Graceland, 35 years after not taking Elvis up on his personal invitation in 1974. She was on tour in Memphis at that time and she had her version of
All Shook Up on the American charts. Elvis heard this and phoned her up and said 'do you want to come over?'
There have been a lot of 'rehearsal' Elvis CDs to come out, but this one, apropriatly titled, Elvis On Tour : The Rehearsals is by far the best. First of all, it almost sounds like a studio album. The songs are mostly complete without a bunch of mistakes and a do-overs and most sound really great. There isn't any joking around, each track pretty much jumps strait to the next song.
The
Made In Memphis FTD CD is another in an extended string of vault excavations from Elvis Presley's apparently inexhaustible library of alternate, unused, and unfinished takes, to be issued by the custom label
Follow That Dream through RCA-BMG. For starters, as with many of the unused takes, because there's been no dubbing or the loss of even a single generation, you get a much closer sound than on most of Elvis' released recordings, even the properly remastered editions.
Spinout! This is a great album, a wonderful listening experience. From the classic title track and the lovely ballads such as 'Am I Ready' and 'All That I Am' to the great rock numbers 'Never Say Yes' and 'I'll Be Back' there appears to be something for everybody in this package. 'Never Say Yes' is a wonderful song and is even more enjoyable when heard on its out-take forms and alos do treat yourself to the out-take of the ballad 'Am I Ready', you will find it fuller and, even it is hard to admit, better than the original take on many levels.
The label 'Venus Productions' will soon release the double CD set
Bringing It All Back Home featuring two concerts recorded in Elvis' hometown. The first CD will contain the matinee performance of March 16, 1974 , his first live appearance in Memphis since 1961. From the first generation soundboard tape.
Part of Beale Street has been renamed in honor of Bernard Lansky.
Follow That Dream records, the collectors division of RCA have done it again with another superb re-packaging in their latest series of original LP re-issues. Turning their attention to the 1967 'Clambake' movie soundtrack. Not a classic film by any accounts, it came from a very low period in Elvis' movie career, probably the lowest in fact as Elvis became physically ill during production and sruggled to motivate himself for this one.
Review of both concerts in the
Rockin' Across Texas 2 CD Set from FTD.
Following is the complete track listing with samples of the liner notes for
Elvis Presley: 50 Australian Top Ten Hits 1956-1977 to be released in Australia by Sony on January 8, 2010.
Sony will release
Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight, the ultimate career-spanning collection of seminal recordings by Elvis Presley, in commemoration of the King of Rock & Roll's 75th birthday (January 8, 2010).
If you don't think of Elvis Presley as a romantic guy, then your mind will be quickly changed by an enlightening new DVD,
Love Me Tender ... The Love Songs of Elvis Presley. If you were around during Elvis' prime, you already know he possessed one of the most charismatic personalities in modern music.
The 'bonus' track is THE performance highlight from his Hampton Roads show two days later (by which time he had the Flu!) thankfully it's a reasonably performed 'request' for the 'Return To Sender' fan Club and I'm sure they must have been delighted. I recommend this CD because the performance is just passable from a dreadful tour and the sound balance is impressive in its clarity - far easier on the ears than listening to FTD America. I'll certainly be playing this
New Haven '76 CD a few times before I stack it away on the shelf.
Never before have we seen an Elvis Presley concert from the 1950's with sound. Until Now! The DVD Contains recently discovered unreleased film of Elvis performing 6 songs, including Heartbreak Hotel and Don't Be Cruel, live in Tupelo Mississippi 1956. Included we see a live performance of the elusive Long Tall Sally seen here for the first time ever.
+ Plus Bonus DVD Audio.
This is an excellent release no fan should be without it.
The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
