Parallels in lives, deaths of Michael Jackson and Elvis - But Presley's path was trailblazing

The passing of Michael Jackson on Thursday afternoon reignited the occasional debate between Michael Jackson, the 'King of Pop' and Elvis Presley, 'The King' of rock and roll'. Presley's was a trailblazing path'. Where Elvis co-created a musical art form, Michael largely built on one. Where Elvis changed sexual mores in the conservative wake of World War II, Michael only made shocking crotch-grabbing movements. And where Elvis, expanding on James Dean's work, harnessed a burgeoning youth culture, Michael only drew more attention to it', says Nash'. He did it brilliantly ... but his cultural impact pales in comparison to Presley's'.

For The Billionth And The Last Time : Frequently Asked Questions

This is a list of Frequently Asked Questions from our article, For The Billionth And The Last Time - Lifting the Lid on the Kings Record Sales by Nick Keene. With answers from Nick Keene.

In praise of Elvis on Camden

The second Elvis album I ever bought was Burning Love And Hits From His Movies, back in the early 1970s on cassette, from the downtown independent record shop where the staff always looked too hip to be selling Elvis records. I could have been repelled, disgusted and baffled. Instead I was hooked by Colonel Parker's frankly mad wheeze. All the other singers and groups I knew had their thing - you always knew what their singles would roughly sound like - but Elvis was a law unto himself. Who else could take you from the childish, cloying, meek How Would You Like To Be? to the pertinent anger of Big Boss Man in just two tracks?

'It was so crazy to hear Elvis sing about me!' : Michele Jarrett

30 years after Elvis' death, Michele Jarrett found out that Elvis once sang about her. Michele was barely 10 years old when Elvis died, but nevertheless she's one of the very few people who can rightfully claim that The King really sang about her - a claim that even Priscilla or his daughter Lisa Marie cannot make.

This is an excellent release no fan should be without it.

The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
