So the National Enquirer is not 100% bad? Here is a front page from May 10, 1959. At least it is interesting.
I can't remember how many times I listened to
On Stage before I noticed something unusual between two of the songs. The first time I caught it, I lifted the needle up and playing the segment again to make sure I wasn't crazy.
'You're just really knocking yourself out to make everybody happy!' a woman in the audience says, between 'Polk Salad Annie' and 'Yesterday'. How had I missed hearing that all the previous times I played the record? For whatever reason, hearing stray comments of audience members during live concerts took on a fascination for me after this. Perhaps it was because it made the concerts seem more real.
Some Elvis songs are still so fresh, so moving, they can be hard to listen to. And for me, the one song that still gives me goosebumps because of the power of the performance and the song's personal relevance to the King is
If I Can Dream. It's widely known that the song almost never happened.
Steve Binder, producer of the
1968 NBC TV Special that resurrected Elvis' career, was so desperate to avoid ending the show with a Christmas song - that he told Earl Brown, 'Write me the greatest song you ever wrote'.

Well. This little baby arrived in my house yesterday and somewhat astounded me. In a way, it was like re-living the old days of collecting bootlegs - waiting for the new Bilko or Vicky release of On Tour material. Very similar feeling only with that 21st century sensibility. This time it's more complete. This time the packaging is top class. More importantly, this time the sound is truly stunning.
A collection of photos of Elvis Presley - 1969-70.
In conclusion, this is a fabulous concert and a personal favourite. It's also an important release, as it includes first time performances of almost all the new songs introduced during this engagement. In short, it's impossible not to be delighted by Elvis' performance, as he proves to be in top form and makes an effort on virtually every song. This one's a revelation…which makes it essential in anyone's book.

Elvis Presley might not have had one of his hit records if the Poulton family hadn't left England in 1835 to seek a new life in America. Elvis recorded it in August 1956 on a large sound stage without his usual band and backing singers. The second take was declared satisfactory and
Love Me Tender was unleashed on a Presley-enthusiastic world. It topped the Billboard chart, remaining number one for five weeks.

I cannot praise 'Elvis live at Del Webb's Sahara Tahoe' more highly. It sits proudly next to 'Elvis - The Concert Years 1969 - 1977', and I recommend it to any fan of Elvis in the 70's who wants to be taken to a time and place which up until now has not been well documented.

Jerry Reed has died at the age of 71 from complications from emphysema. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, March 20, 1937, Jerry Reed Hubbard composed four songs recorded by Elvis. Though this is only a handful in comparison to other songwriters who wrote for Elvis, two of the tunes included 'Guitar Man' and 'U.S. Male'. These songs were recorded just prior to the surge of creativity generated by the television special
Elvis. Jerry was one of several Southern musicians who had been influenced by Elvis and later ended up working with him. In 1967, he recorded 'Tupelo Mississippi Flash', an Elvis novelty record that was a comic tribute to his idol.

Wanda Jackson: My daddy said, 'I wonder if there's a fire or something. Let me go look'. I started getting my things, and he came back and said, 'No, relax. But you've got to see this for yourself'. He took me to the wings, and there was Elvis singing and moving and gyrating, and all these girls standing at the foot of the stage, screaming and reaching for him. It was quite an unusual sight for those days. And when the rest of the nation started giving him havoc, it really upset him.
