Madison's Opening Night - January 1970 has been released. It ain't perfect but NOW, and for the FIRST TIME you will be able to enjoy this GREAT concert in its entirety. This excellent new source has been greatly improved into a surprisingly fuller, dynamic and warmer sound, and without any doubts the best-ever sound fidelity attained on this amazing opening show of January 1970. You can listen to a sound sample of 'True Love Travels on a Gravel Road' from the new Opening Night - January 1970 CD at
Elvis Presley Music.
The new Indiana Jones movie 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' contains an Elvis song, 'Hound Dog'. The first 3 movies were set in the 40s. Now, Indiana Jones, played by Harrison Ford, has aged and the movie is set in the 50s. As an aspiring star Harrison Ford says
'I was sent to the studio barber, they sent me with a picture of Elvis Presley and told me to come back with my hair looking like that.
Elvis said, 'Mr Curtis, I want you to know what a fan I am. I used to watch your movies in Tennessee'. And I said, 'Please, don't call me Mr Curtis'. And this handsome kid looks at me and said, 'So what do you want me to call you?' And I said, 'Just call me Tony'. And I said, 'So what do I call you?' And he said, 'Mr Presley'.
TheÂ
1977 CBS TV Special is in perfect quality, a very special treat for fans. For the first time ever, using a 1st Generation digital copy of a TV Station tape, (originally used to broadcast 'The Special' in October 1977) it has been re-mastered frame by frame and now finally, released to fans to watch this in all its glory!
Following the
Baby Let's Play House remix a full CD album of remixes is to be released. The
Reversions album is actually much more than a remix album: all the songs have been carefully reworked and rearranged using the latest technology but keeping intact the original feel of Elvis' music. This album is a special limited edition and aproved by Elvis Presley Enterprises.
Follow That Dream will release the following CDs in July; '
America', a soundboard release from April 1976, with the body of the recordings being from the Omaha show along with '
Memphis Tennessee (The Lost Album)' a 2 CD version in the
Classic Album Series and '
Love Letters From Elvis' a 2 CD Special Edition again in the Classic Album Series (7 inch digipack with booklet).
Ultimate Gospel; Elvis Presley, Music from the King-to-the-Lord, Enjoyed by an Elvis-fan and Believer. It's just a couple of months ago that I purchased another album of his again. It was
Elvis Ultimate Gospel. This was released in 2004. It's said that 'To sing once is to pray twice'. Elvis did that and more with his incredible voice. I believe this selection of Gospel music including revival rock, solemn hymns and traditional church numbers is an example of the gifts God gives to particular people in this world. Elvis had the gift to sing. Thankfully it is shared with us on albums such as
Ultimate Gospel.
Elvis Presley was a generous man. Not only to those who worked for him, his family and friends, but often to strangers and regular gifts to charities, both national and local. Christmas time every year Elvis would donate around $100,000 to organized charities.
A twister brought national attention to Tupelo, Miss., long before its favorite son, Elvis Aron Presley, wiggled his way to fame on the
Ed Sullivan Show. In fact, Elvis, born on
Jan. 8, 1935, was just barely a toddler when an F-5 tornado roared through his hometown 70 years ago today, claiming the lives of 233 people. It was one of the deadliest tornadoes in U.S. history.
For reasons I cannot entirely fathom, I have been increasingly drawn, in the past year, to The Trouble With Girls on DVD. One of Elvis' late, neglected movies - released in the U.S. on a double bill with a cheesy horror flick called The Green Slime - it was shot when his hopes of being the next James Dean had been virtually extinguished. Yet the King seems more animated than usual on celluloid - certainly more engaged than he is, in, say Paradise Hawaiian Style - and utterly at home in this small town period piece.
The Rough Guide To Elvis must surely be destined to become the Elvis fans' Almanac. More than worth its price, a delight to read through or browse in. Do yourself a favour -- I like this book a lot!
buy it!
2008 is the 40th anniversary of the first airing
Elvis' 1968 television special. This extravagant entertainment special features Elvis in some of his greatest and best-loved moments captured on video. Elvis in black leather and the giant red 'Elvis' letters are just a couple of iconic images that come from this program.
In all but a few, minor matters, I find this release extremely satisfying. It is very nice to have all this material gathered in one release and as the sound is excellent, the packing is almost flawless and you get a whole slew of interesting bonus tracks who could ask for more? This is Elvis at an absolute peak, and Elvis- vise or even music-vise it doesn't come any better.

Two of Elvis Presley's close friends have disputed claims that the rock icon made a secret visit to London.
Elvis and Graceland are featured in this month's
Tennessee Treasures magazine. (Issue 4) The magazine's article features photos by Elvis Australia's
Scott Jenkins and also the photos of Graceland taken in 1962 by Tony Douglas as published by
Elvis Presley Music in February this year.
Rare. Never-before-seen. Wow! That's how a newly discovered photo of Elvis Presley was described in Thursday's Herald. Reading the Associated Press article over breakfast, and seeing the 1972 image of a caped King of Rock 'n' Roll at Madison Square Garden in New York,
I had to laugh. Then I had to go check. Yep, Elvis was still in the house. Before leaving for work, I managed to find my prized Presley picture. It was tucked in an envelope of photos of my late father-in-law, David Muhlstein.
Never-before-seen photos have surfaced of Elvis Presley rocking Madison Square Garden in 1972. View

Due for release is a 2CD set containing the complete June 26, 1977 show including the pre-programm. According to the update 'In even better sound than we had it before (and we had it in good sound already...)'. It comes with a 20 page booklet and an extra DIN A3 poster.
This week it has been reported that Mariah Carey has surpassed Elvis Presley as the solo artist with the most No. 1 singles on Billboard's U.S Top 100 chart.
EPE (and Elvis Australia) claim that Elvis had, in fact, 18 No. 1 singles, meaning Carey would have simply tied with Elvis. The confusion lies with the 1956 chart-toppers
Don't Be Cruel and Hound Dog. EPE (correctly) lists the two songs as separate No. 1 singles. In the 1950's and 1960's Billboard counted
record sales and
Jukebox plays of
both sides of a single.
Also in the case of Hound Dog and Don't Be Cruel there were two different covers issued allowing for which ever was asked for at the counter. One had Hound Dog / Don't Be Cruel the other the reverse Don't Be Cruel / Hound Dog.
Elvis Sings ... is a double CD containing a nice collection of 67 'theme songs' recorded by Elvis. Elvis sings-
Beatles songs,
Hawaiian songs and even
Beethoven. Surprised? During his career Elvis covered many songs that originally were written and recorded by some of the biggest names in the entertainment field. Among them are names from different music genres like
Arthur Crudup,
Bill Monroe,
Hank Williams,
Chuck Berry,
Ray Charles,
Bob Dylan,
John Lennon,
Paul McCartney and
George Harrison from
The Beatles,
Kris Kristofferson and of course some of Little Richard's songs. We have a
preview of 8 pages from the booklet.
This is a fantastic, much needed upgrade of some truly different and inspired shows. There is no doubt that this season was one of the most interesting he ever gave for its rare performances and random set-lists, which in my opinion makes this an essential release for everyone who appreciates live shows. Only one thing left to say-get it while you can!
Once again I find myself reviewing a MRS release and what another beauty they've created with
New York RCA Studio 1: The Complete Sessions for the dedicated Elvis fan! ... If I want to rock n roll loud and proud then I would play the New York sessions CD first every time as it jumps out at you and hits you hard...very punchy and up front ... I would say you need The New York Sessions, please don't deprive yourself.
We have an preview of four photos from the
Elvis - Portraits book
due for release April 8.
A 36-foot tall Elvis Presley can now be seen in Times Square in New York. The Elvis photo on the billboard is by famous photographer George Kalinsky, who recently discovered many never-before-seen Elvis photos in his collection. The image is from a 1972 performance at Madison Square Garden where Kalinsky captured some photographs of Elvis.
On Monday,
Graceland opened a trio of new historical exhibits, including one focusing on Elvis Presley's
1968 Comeback Special, and another called '
Private Presley'. While Presley was lauded for his service, his
tour of duty -- most of it spent in West Germany -- was also a personally difficult time for the singer.
Here, Priscilla talks about the exhibit, her memories of the era, and a side of Elvis that few knew.
Ernst Jørgensen has told us that Sony BMG have the Elvis Duets tapes. Ernst told us today 'George Klein has already approached SONY/BMG on this issue. We have told him that we are not interested in buying his tape, as we already paid for these sessions and
have the tapes ourselves. I don't understand why Mr. Klein brings up this issue again. Obviously all rights are with SONY/BMG and the various singers'.
In an
Interview with Elvis Australia, George Klein answers the question 'So do you have any other hidden treasures that we don't know about?' with
'I've got a press conference that I recorded myself ... I've got a tape of unsweetened stuff with about ten of the American Sound songs from '69'.
Scott Jenkins interviewed
George Klein this week about the
Elvis Duets tape George has possession of with recordings of
Help Me with
Larry Gatlin,
Guitar Man with
Jerry Reed and
Blue Suede Shoes with
Carl Perkins. George reveals if the Elvis recording of Blue Suede Shoes used is a live or studio recording and tells us that this was a totally different project, it was to be called
Elvis and Friends.
I just want you all to know that without the encouragement of Elvis Presley, I may never have even recorded rock 'n' roll or rockabilly'.

Elvis Presley: Close Up is so impressive: another excellent essay from Colin Escott, great pictures, and 89 unheard takes of super-fine Elvis. The premise of
Close Up is that we are hearing unguarded moments and snapshots that can bring us closer to the man.
McFarlane Toys will release an
Elvis Aloha Figure in August. This figure showcases Elvis Presley in one of his most famous on-stage performances, wearing one of his most renowned jumpsuits - The American Eagle. Celebrating music's greatest icon in a performance that has never been equaled - or forgotten.
A public memorial service honoring the life of valued and long time Graceland employee,
Todd Morgan, has been set for April 1, 2008 from 6PM to 7PM CST at
The Rose Theater on the campus of The University of Memphis.
All in all, then, I have to admit to being sorely disappointed with 'The Gospel Side Of Elvis'. It's too short, it offers little new, it is lightweight, it fails to live up to its promise and my expectations.
The CD
Elvis For President in the EFE promo series will be released soon. The CD contains famous quotes from Elvis and of course his announcement during a live concert 'Ladies and gentleman, I'd like to announce that I'm running for President'.
In summer 1968, Elvis Presley taped a television special to be broadcast that Christmas. 'Singer Presents Elvis' is a great moment in music, in television, and in the narrative of his own life -- a moment of change, when what was lost is found again.
Next week, Ronnie McDowell will present his painting 'Reflections of a King' to Elvis Presley Enterprises. The print is of Elvis in Tupelo as a ten year old and will grace the wall of the executive offices, left of Graceland.

The
Elvis By The Presleys DVD set is an entertaining, informative biography that belongs in the collection of anyone who considers themselves to be an Elvis fan. It also serves as an important document of 20th Century pop culture.
In a memorable line from
I'll Remember You, Elvis sings
'I'll return to stay' to his beloved. Although its not in the living, breathing way most of us would prefer,
Elvis: Aloha From Hawaii skillfully preserves one of the legendary performer's last triumphs forever.
1964 was a very busy year for Elvis Presley. Three movies, two soundtracks, one EP, assorted singles, his pursuit of
Priscilla, and a public affair left very little time for anything else.
Viva Las Vegas was one of Elvis’ best movies that did not have a complete soundtrack release at the time. That oversight has now been corrected. This release of the movie soundtrack by FTD in their
Special Edition Movie Soundtrack series features improved re-mastering of both the original LP and the bonus alternate takes and much more....
This release of the

Special Edition Movie Soundtrack series features improved re-mastering of both the original LP and the bonus alternate takes.
This latest release by Madison contains a soundboard recording of the midnight show performed on the 12th August in Las Vegas. Although this show is previously unreleased, five tracks have been issued before on the FTD title: Summer Festival, as bonus material. These include: Proud Mary, Never Been To Spain, For The Good Times, A Big Hunk Of Love and the same short burst of Tiger Man. As Can't Help falling In Love and the closing vamp were not recorded, they have been taken from the dinner show the previous day to provide a satisfying conclusion to the featured show.

Madison's Hot August Night. This January 26, 1970 opening show recording was overall of poor quality because of severe microphone overload. It ain't perfect but now for the first time you will be able to enjoy this show from an excellent new source that has been greatly improved into a surprising fuller, dynamic and warmer sound.
The 'Straight Arrow' label will release the CD, 'Royal Gambit In Richfield'. The audio-quality of the recording is really stunning, especially considering the fact that it was taped from the audience in a large stadium. Producers were able to obtain an ORIGINAL TAPE recorded by the same person that taped the Johnson City and Orlando 1977 concerts released by 'Straight Arrow' in 2006.

This is an excellent release no fan should be without it.
The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
