Sam Phillips, has passed away at the age of 80. He was instrumental in starting the careers of not only Elvis, but also Jerry Lee Lewis,
Johnny Cash and others. Mr Phillips had been in poor health recently. He is credited with being one of the major contributors to the establishment of rock and roll as a musical and social artform.

Big money is being pumped into Elvis Presley's Tupelo, Miss., birthplace.
Construction will be complete in early August on the $750,000 renovation of the
two-room shotgun house where Elvis was born. The construction includes a "story
all" that features anecdotes from area residents who knew Elvis as a kid. A
fountain has been installed, as has a "Circle Of Life": a ring of stones, one
for each day of Elvis' life. Presley was born Jan. 8, 1935 in Tupelo. He died in
Memphis, Tenn., on Aug. 16, 1977.

Bill Burk's Early Elvis trilogy are among the most
critically acclaimed books on Elvis ever published. The thorough
research and detail included means they provide a previously missing insight
into who Elvis was during his formative and school years. Based on Bill
Burk's decades of investigative journalism and his interviews with scores of
people who knew Elvis and his family, the Early Elvis trilogy is an essential
inclusion in any serious library of Elvis books. They provide readers with
a picture of the real Elvis Presley, a person often quite different from the
portrait presented in mainstream biographies.
Last week we mentioned that a Swedish newspaper quoted Ernst on the possible
find of a new song. We received an update from Ernst Jorgensen. He said: "The
Swedish TV has been misinterpreted - it was a general comment on finding new
recordings - that's one of my job duties. It wasn't specific on any song".
The anniversary of Elvis Presley's passing is approaching, and Nashville is
doing its part to commemorate the somber occasion. The Country Music Hall of
Fame and Museum will honor the king of Rock and Roll's legacy with a series of
special events in August, including a Q&A session with Alanna Nash, author
of the new book "The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and
Elvis Presley." Also on the agenda are tours of the historic RCA Studio B, where
Presley recorded many of his hits, including "It's Now or Never" and "Are You
Lonesome Tonight."

made in an professional studio. It is claimed that the news has

Elvis is going to be at the National Postal Museum this summer. And officials of the Washington attraction are hoping that the entertainer whose 1993 stamp set a modern-era sales record that still stands will do the same for their facility. It may be too late for Elvis Presley devotees to get their hands on one of his
sequinned jumpsuits, but die-hard fans can still claim a small piece of the
King, a tooth.

She's definitely Daddy's girl. Elvis Presley's only child, a living reminder of the King. Those eyes, that smile, that "something" that made him seem both wild and wounded at the same time - she has them all.

Warner Brothers has bought
the rights to an original idea from Colonel Tom Parker's friend, film producer
Jerry Weintraub. Noted director, Barry Levinson, whose credits include Good
Morning Vietnam, Rain Man and Disclosure, has apparently been hired to direct
the movie. Alanna Nash has confirmed that the film has nothing to do with her
new book 'The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story of Elvis Presley and Colonel Tom
Parker'. No word yet on casting and production. The Elvis-Colonel Parker story
has previously been done in the little known movie, 'Elvis and the Colonel: The
Untold Story', starring Beau Bridges.

In California, Orange County has the John Wayne Airport. And Oklahoma City has
the Will Rogers World Airport. But in the home of Elvis, it's plain old Memphis
International Airport. Some might argue, though, that a better name would be
Elvis Presley Memphis International Airport.

Two photographs, two kisses, one man. In the first, the man leans toward a woman on a staircase. She grips the railing behind her, shoulder blades curving against the cut of an evening dress. His hands encircle her waist. The tips of their tongues touch. In the second, he is shirtless and leaning toward his mother, a stocky woman in a housedress, who has just handed him a pair of clean underwear. His lips brush her cheek.
Elvis' stepbrother David Stanley admitted the other day that even he found it hard to explain why his big brother was so enduringly popular. What is that Elvis has that other's don't?
The October 1, 2003 release will be the Lake Tahoe 3 A.M. Mothers Day show from
1973. FTD don't normally release 2 soundboards following each other,
but as RCA is releasing "Close Up" this summer - comprising of 3 studio outtakes
CD's and a 16 track live recording, they felt that the variety they
are aiming for is best served by a soundboard release for October.
FTD are also working on 3 more movie soundtracks, but are holding back
because of so many other releases during this time. FTD is fully comitted
to re-release the repertoire that is no longer avalable through retail shops,
and there will be more of these re-releases by the end of the year and certainly
next year as well. The Classic album series is not limited to Movie Soundtracks.
I had a chance to pick up an advanced copy of the new 4 CD set "Close Up". Let me start off by saying this set is a real winner, just for the stereo 50's master's alone.

box set, BMG Heritage and RCA Records announce ELVIS: CLOSE UP. This 4 - CD/CS

Roll.™

Elvis (87266),
Elvis Picture (10148),
Elvis Presley Picture (8103),
Elvis Lyric (6460),

No sorry guys, not for a photoshoot, but with a "rocking" Playboy Interview by Rob Tannenbaum. president's musical hero," he explains.

'Pieces of my life' is not the strongest Elvis photo-book released. It certainly includes some great and rare photos but the inconsistent quality of the pictorials lets it down. However, given its relatively low price (particularly compared to the prices charged for Rijff, Tunzi and Lichter photo-books), 'Pieces of my life' represents very good value for money.

Many fans will not realise that the lives of record producer, Phil Spector and Elvis were linked in several ways.
Talent is expressed in many ways with music. Elvis was an incredible stage performer and would wrap himself around a sweet lyric, making you, the listener, feel he is speaking directly to you as a friend. His image is the strongest in Rock and Roll music, yet he never wrote his own songs. But he didn't need to. People like Leiber & Stoller, Pomus & Shuman, and Schroeder & Gold, among others, could write musical ontent just for him and his style. Some of Elvis' early songs were covers of early Doo-Wop.
In a recent interview with Andylon Lensen, Ernst Jorgensen provided the following BMG release information.
After months of rumors and gossip, here is official preliminary information from RCA/BMG about new Elvis releases for this year. As always, we will update the information immediately anytime the record company provides us any new details to share with the public.
The new book "Rock 'n' Nassau" by Russ Howe and Tom Salva will be released early June. This J.A.T. Publication will contain photos of Elvis' 1973 engagement at the Nassau Coliseum. All the pictures should be unpublished. The text is written by Jim Donohue.
This is a strong debut for
Lisa Marie Presley. The two tracks 'Lights Out' and 'Savior' complement each other beautifully. Lights Out, with its infectious beat and interesting lyrics should garner considerable airplay.
Following the huge success of the "Behind The Image DVD" a second volume, "Behind The Image Volume 2", will now be released.
Daughter of Elvis, ex-wife of Michael Jackson -- you better believe she has a story to tell. In a no-holds-barred interview, she speaks about her three marriages, her dad and her crush on Darth Vader.
According to the French Fan Club "Elvis My Happiness" the follow up to "Elvis 30
#1 Hits" is scheduled for September 23, 2003. This compilation album will have
the "New remastered sound" and will contain some songs that were hits in the
USA/UK, as well as tracks that were important in Elvis' career such as - Viva
Las Vegas, Blue Suede Shoes and That's All Right Mama. This CD will also feature
the unreleased second version of
"Roustabout" written by Otis
Blackwell and Winfield Scott.
There's also the possibility for a second remix and
"Rubberneckin" recorded during the Memphis 1969 Sessions could
be the chosen track for this.
According to the French Fan Club "Elvis My Happiness" these two re-released DVDs
will come out in October 2003. The 35th Anniversary Edition of the "68 Comeback
Special" will include both stand-up and sit-down shows. The updated "Aloha From
Hawaii" 30th Anniversary Edition will contain the Aloha Rehearsal show and the
complete sequence with Elvis' arrival in helicopter until he leaves to the
Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel.
There have been two significant announcements from BMG in recent weeks. Firstly, the great news that the company is working on a follow-up release to last year's mega album, Elvis 30 #1 Hits, and secondly, the much anticipated release of the new '50 title' Elvis catalog.
Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. today announced that it has enlisted the
services of Meetup Inc. to help generate monthly face-to-face fan parties in
hundreds of cities and small towns around the world.
Most people's lives appear simple when you're not living them. Even a life as controversial as Elvis Presley's as told by most biographers fits a fairly simple graph.
Elvis At The International contains a show from Las Vegas, August 23 (MS) and the sound is fantastic. There is a lot of ambience thus containing the live feel a concert CD should have. The audience is there with you all the time, without taking away the charm of any instrument or any vocal.
So how is that
Lisa Marie Presley record? Judging from a four-song advance, it's better than you might think. The album, 'To Whom It May Concern', doesn't come out till April 8, though its label, Capitol Records, has fed media an EP sampler that features four tracks: S.O.B., The Road Between, lead single 'Lights Out' and Nobody Noticed It, a song the fledgling singer premiered at last year's 'Elvis - The Concert' event inside The Pyramid.
Never before have we seen an Elvis Presley concert from the 1950's with sound. Until Now! The DVD Contains recently discovered unreleased film of Elvis performing 6 songs, including Heartbreak Hotel and Don't Be Cruel, live in Tupelo Mississippi 1956. Included we see a live performance of the elusive Long Tall Sally seen here for the first time ever.
+ Plus Bonus DVD Audio.
This is an excellent release no fan should be without it.
The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
