Elvis lived 15,561 days. On March 23, 2020, we reached the point when he had been gone the same number of days. That's exactly 42 years, 7 months and 8 days. So he has now been gone longer than he was with us.
The group of friends around Elvis became known as the Memphis Mafia.
How do you follow up an album like From Elvis In Memphis and the singles and follow up album that flowed from the 1969 recording sessions at Chip's Moman's Memphis American Sound Studio's? In February 1970 RCA recorded Elvis live in Las Vegas and released the classic live album, On Stage, but it was not until June of that year that Elvis re-entered a studio to cut an album proper. Elvis Country was the result, released in January 1971, it was Elvis' only real concept album and in my opinion does rate as Elvis best album. Elvis recorded country music throughout his career - from classics at Sun sessions in the Fifties to unrepentant schlock. 1971's Elvis Country isn't as famous as his 1969 landmark From Elvis In Memphis but it's one of his most consistent, thematically tight albums, showing off his voice in boundless, effortless form and taking on a set of songs he had a deep connection with.

Fooling around on the set | Playing with his friends | Playing touch football | Water battles | riding | Singing and racing | Amazing portraits.
Forty-five years ago, only eleven days after astronaut Neil Armstrong took his famous 'one small step' on the moon, Elvis Presley took his own giant leap. On that July 31st night in 1969, the singer stepped onto the stage of the International Hotel in Las Vegas and firmly reestablished himself as one of the world’s most dynamic performers. To commemorate the anniversary, Sony’s
Follow That Dream (FTD) collectors label for Elvis fans recently released on CD
The Return To Vegas, the earliest known recording from this concert series.
Follow That Dream has released the CD, 'Elvis In California' and our order is now on the way to us. This 2-CD set in 5" digipak features Elvis touring during May 1974. The shows, taken from the original soundboard tapes, feature concerts from Selland Arena, Fresno (May 12) and Swing Auditorium, San Bernadino (May 10 & 13).
Elvis Presley was a Cadillac man and everybody knew it. His taste in cars was especially well-known in his hometown, where folks believed that if you were in the right place at the right time he might suddenly appear out of nowhere and give you the car of your dreams, because that was one of the splendid things about him ...
'I Think I'm Gonna Like this release...' Last years 'Viva Las Vegas' release was a real winner and included lots of new and fresh sounding tracks with cool edits. Fun In Acapulco | Spliced Takes Special CD is no different and will surprise you with a great new soundtrack which includes 13 (!!) new and unreleased spliced takes. Almost all tracks have a longer running time due to the clever use of different takes. The title track has been re-edited and sounds like a completely new take! The same goes for 'Rhumba In A Sports Car' which has also been extended.
Throughout the years I've been fortunate to have had the opportunity to witness the beginnings of more than one musical legend. One afternoon, we were paid a visit by a young and inexperienced Elvis Presley, who was appearing on an excursion boat, the S.S. Mt. Vernon. Includes Interview with Jimy Dean.
Review of the FTD release, Back In Memphis, by Troy Yeary. When I first heard the original 'Back In Memphis', over twenty years ago, I was surprised by my disappointment. After listening to this expanded FTD release of the album, I am surprised yet again. Not by disappointment this time, but by how much I enjoyed it.
Work In Progress | The Guitar Man Album Sessions Volume 1 CD Set. In 1980 Felton Jarvis, Elvis' record producer for the last decade came to the remarkable idea to freshen up some of Elvis' recordings. The idea was to add totally new backing tracks to Elvis' voice. This resulted in the 1981 record release of 'Guitar Man'. Felton was convinced Elvis would have loved it. The original album contained 10 songs (which all can be heard in a wonderful newly remastered sound quality on this new 2 CD set). But Felton worked on a bunch of other songs to see if they would suit the project. This special 2 CD set contains many of those unreleased versions that never made it to the record. Also included are some unreleased unfinished versions of tracks that did make it to the final GUITAR MAN album.
The legendary 40 Greatest! 2 CD Set PINK ALBUM is now available on a deluxe double compact disc set. Elvis' 40 Greatest, originally released (on Arcade) in 1974 and UK's biggest-selling album over the Christmas period of that year, but along with all albums on K-tel, Ronco and Arcade, it was ineligible for the UK Albums Chart until 1975 because it was felt that heavy TV advertising and low pricing distorted the charts. It finally reached number one on the UK Albums Chart in 1977, and became the 10th best-selling album of the 1970s in the UK.
Southbound was originally released in 1998 featuring the August 31 1976 show from Macon Georgia. The 7th tour of 1976 is not known as being the best tour in Elvis' career. During this particular show Elvis appeared demotivated. He was definitely struggling to get to the end of this engagement. Most likely the crowd never even noticed this as they go wild like always as Elvis delivered a mediocre performance.
Due to a printing error the Follow That Dream collectors label have had to re-print the 'Elvis In California'cover. Therefor the CD will not be shipped on February 3rd as planned but hopefully later in the week. As part of the ongoing live on tour series, FTD is pleased to announce the release of 'Elvis In California'. Released as a 2-CD 5" digipak, this set features Elvis touring during May 1974. The shows, taken from the original soundboard tapes, feature concerts from Selland Arena, Fresno (May 12) and Swing Auditorium, San Bernadino (May 10 & 13).
From Charlotte Motor Speedway: Move over, Richard Petty and Steve Kinser: another famous car belonging to 'The King' is coming to Charlotte Motor Speedway. Elvis Presley's pink-and-white 1955 Cadillac, the car most associated with 'The King' and the birth of Rock 'N' Roll music, will roll into Charlotte Motor Speedway to serve as the centerpiece attraction for the April 2-5 Pennzoil AutoFair. Other than a trip to London in 2015, the iconic Fleetwood sedan - recognized as one of the most famous American-made cars - has not been displayed outside of Memphis since Elvis Presley's Graceland opened for tours in 1982. Currently the car resides in the new Presley Motors exhibit in the Elvis Presley's Memphis entertainment and exhibit complex across the street from Graceland.
Jackie DeShannon is an American singer/songwriter with a string of hit song credits from the 1960s onwards. She was one of the first female singer-songwriters of the rock 'n' roll period. Her biggest break came in February 1964 when she supported The Beatles on their first US tour and formed a touring band with guitarist Ry Cooder. In 1975 with Donna Weiss, she composed 'Queen of the Rodeo' and 'Bette Davis Eyes' for her album New Arrangement. The song 'Bette Davis Eyes' later became a worldwide Number 1 single for singer Kim Carnes in 1981.
In 1979, RCA Records producer
Joan Deary had an idea for a unique concept album. The idea was to release an album featuring Elvis' recordings stripped down to basics ... the 'Pure Elvis Sound'. Many fans had commented that Elvis' later recordings suffered from too much overdubbing or 'sweetening', often causing Elvis' vocal performances to be buried beneath lavish, often over-the-top orchestral productions. With these over-dubbed recordings in hand, Joan went back into the recording studio and the result ... '
Our Memories Of Elvis' was born. Unfortunately, the 'Our Memories Of Elvis' series has been long out of print. But now, thanks to the good folks at
Follow That Dream (FTD) Records, Elvis' fans can stroll down memory lane once again with their release, 'Our Memories Of Elvis': Volumes 1, 2 & 3.
Elvis One presents Elvis 1968. A collection of 23 recordings, including take 1 of 'U.S. Male', 'Stay Away' (take 1, slow version), 'Stay Away' (take 4, fast version), the hard to find backing track of 'A Little Less Conversation', some outtakes from the 1968 TV special, and many more. All these recordings are in very good sound and previously unreleased by Elvis' record company. Including a booklet with photos and recording information.
Hometown Memphis is a 6 CD set to be released soon. This is a limited numbered set of 300 copies.
FTD Vinyl's next release upgrades 'Love Letters From Elvis'. Recorded during the marathon sessions held in Nashville, June 4-8, 1970, the original LP became the last album of utilising songs recorded during that week. This new 180-gram heavyweight vinyl edition mastered at Abbey Road and features a FESTIVAL of outtakes and masters.

Mary Tyler Moore talks about Elvis Presley.
Jerry Reed immediately took over the session, you can hear it from the first notes of the first take - Reed is coaching the musicians, encouraging them, egging them on, with Felton happy just to be presiding over some thing that is actually happening. There is a bright, shimmering surface to the music different in many respects from anything Elvis has ever recorded before but providing, at the same time, the kind of churning, driving rhythm that has characterized Elvis' music from the first. There is not the slightest question of Elvis' engagement. There is no self-deprecation, there is no wisecracking; all of the singer's attention is focused on the music..
FTD has released 'The Elvis Is Back Sessions'. For the first time, here are all the songs as recorded in sequence. Included are all the RCA outtakes and masters. The release includes a deluxe 28-page booklet and sound carrier adorned with, beautiful portraits, rare photos, insightful essay, recording data and classic memorabilia.
Follow That Dream has released the Deluxe book / CD set 'The Making of Viva Las Vegas'. Produced in cooperation with David English and Pal Granlund this 400-page hardcover book is packed in a deluxe slipcase and has the same size and format as the 'Elvis Presley A Boy From Tupelo' book / CD from the FTD label.
When Elvis Presley entered RCA's Studio B in Nashville Tennessee on June 25th, 1961, the goal was just to record both sides of a strong June-planned single release. The last one ('I feel So Bad' / 'Wild In The Country') had been a little disappointing. It wasn't that it had performed badly on the charts (No.5) or that it had sold poorly (600.000 copies). But it broke a string of number one records, and the units sold contrasted to the almost 2 million copies of 'Are You Lonesome Tonight', the one million plus of It's Now Or Never, the 900.000 copies of 'Stuck On You' from the previous year, or the 750.000 of 'Surrender' in February 1961. All these figures weren't unnoticed by RCA, the Colonel and Elvis himself.
Elvis and I felt a common bond, coming from Mississippi. He thought I understood him. He didn't have to put on airs with me, and I wasn't after anything. This is an odd thing to say about Elvis Presley, but it was like I was working with my brother. We never dated. We were just two people from the same state.
Next up in the well-received 'Ballads' series is 'California Ballads '. As a follow up for 'Hollywood Ballads' and after the great success of the previous releases 'Nashville Ballads', 'Memphis Ballads' & 'Vegas Ballads' this is a compilation of some of his best California ballads. Housed in a beautiful deluxe 6-panel digipack.

CMT returns with Elvis Presley 'Vegas Throat', an incredible follow up to last years 'I'm Evil'. Presented in a six-panel digipack, limited to 500 copies, this one will be sold out before Christmas! Every Elvis fan of course will know that this year marked the 50th anniversary of Elvis returning to the stage. An amazing 11 disc boxset was released and although it is a must, it is most likely it will be played often because most shows are pretty much the same as the one before. CMT has made an outstanding 'Ultimate' release which includes ALL the songs (29 tracks!) from the shows in ONE performance! Lots of time and effort went into the editing and it sounds like one complete show. This is the one you will be playing over and over, this is why we are Elvis fans; to enjoy his music!
The ELVIS Movie | Starring Kurt Russell with the soundtrack of Elvis Presley! It's the same story but the performances have made an incredible upgrade with Ronnie McDowell's soundtrack replaced with the only soundtrack that should have been there in the first place -- Elvis'. In addition, lots more music has been included along with blockbusters like 'Walk the Line' and 'Great Balls of Fire', giving the movie a more 'professional' touch. And rare Elvis Presley live versions and outtakes were handpicked to find the best matching songs for the scenes. Kurt Russell's 'playbacking' looks much more natural and real than before, and how cool it is to hear the actual radio broadcast (Dewey Phillips) from the time when 'That's All Right' was first played on the air, or to hear 'The Blackwood Brothers' at the funeral of Elvis his mother Gladys.

Tony Brown first met Elvis in 1969 at the International Hotel through J.D Sumner. He later became a member of Voice and in March 1975 played piano on Elvis' recording of 'Bringing it Back' on Elvis' 'Today' album. On 21st April 1976, Tony permanently replaced Glen D. Today Tony holds a key-job in the record industry as now president of MCA-Nashville. When I was with Voice, those were moments when I was actually in there. You sit on the couch around in the house with Elvis. And he'd come and we'd gather around the piano. We'd sing old spirituals and stuff. And he'd play -- he loved to play the piano. And he actually played pretty good.
The
Follow That Dream classic album, or more correctly 'wannabe' classic album '
Elvis Sings Guitar Man' containing secular masters cut in Nashville, Tennessee between May 1966 and September 1967. In order to proceed we must establish some background to the material included. Coming in the deluxe 7" packaging we've become accustomed to with FTD this release is another stunner. The sound quality is universally excellent throughout. Snap this one up, you won't be disappointed!

Joe Moscheo was a member of the group of gospel singers called The Imperials. The group has been around since 1964 and has had several member changes since then. The Imperials still exist as a Southern gospel contemporary Christian venue. After Elvis' success on NBC in 1968 in a show that's come to be known as the '68 Comeback Special, he went on to play the International Hotel in Las Vegas in 1970. Normally his backup band was the Jordanaires. They had been with him on the television show and had sung with him for a number of years. Unfortunately, due to the success they'd been having, the group wasn't able to do the Vegas shows. Elvis' next choice for backup singers was The Imperials. The group performed with Elvis from 1969 to 1971.
MTP is back with two (2) amazing new releases, 'Out In Hollywood' Vol. 3 and 'The Nashville Marathon' Vol. 2. We all remember the 'good old days' when FTD released their first releases like 'The Jungle Room Sessions', 'Fame and Fortune' and 'Out in Hollywood'. Those CDs were in our players for weeks, due to all the unreleased stuff, great sound quality and last but not least the fact there were a lot of complete outtakes never heard before. After a while, although the releases were still fantastic, we got more and more CDs with lots of outtakes from the same songs, great for collecting, but the listening pleasure was a bit less fun... The label continues their series with two releases which will be in your player for weeks, and are again 'Meant to be Played'.

Ed Asner made his film debut in 1962, in the Elvis Presley movie Kid Galahad and again with the king in 'Change of Habit'. Asner is best known for his character Lou Grant, who was first introduced on The Mary Tyler Moore Show in 1970. In 1977, after the series, Asner's character was given his own show, Lou Grant (1977–82).

Ginger Alden first met Elvis when she was five years old. Her father was a Public Relations Officer in the Army in Memphis. When Elvis returned from Germany and was no longer in the service, our family was invited, by an uncle of Elvis', to join Elvis and a group at the local fairground. Elvis remembered Ginger's father and walked over to meet him and his family. Elvis was so kind and cordial. He shook hands with each person and patted Ginger on the head. No one never dreamed their paths would cross again or that in 15 years Ginger would become engaged to Elvis!
Venus Productions is proud to present you, Mele Mai Ka Lani Mai, a 3-CD set with unreleased outtakes from the movie 'Blue Hawaii'. As with all Venus releases all tracks are uncut and the sound is top-notch!
It was July 31, 1969, and Elvis Presley was all keyed up. It was opening night at the International Hotel in Las Vegas, and he was about to give his first full concert appearance since 1961. In June 1968, he'd taped four shows before a live audience for his television special, Elvis, but that had been in an intimate setting, not a 2,000-seater showroom. And there would be no opportunity for any retakes tonight. It was make-or-break time.

Larry Auerbach booked Elvis Presley's first network television performance in 1956. The agency had just signed on to represent Presley when a producer for Jackie Gleason's 'Stage Show' called Auerbach and said he needed an act, 'a country singer', for an upcoming broadcast. So Auerbach said, 'I've got one', while knowing almost nothing about Presley's act. During rehearsal, there was a problem. Producer Jack Philbin turned to Auerbach while Elvis Presley gyrated and said, 'All the parts in his pants are moving'. Auerbach, assigned to fix the problem, took the singer to an Army and Navy store at 53rd Street and Broadway and bought him his first athletic supporter. 'He said, 'Why am I wearing this?' and I said, 'So your parts won't move', Auerbach recalled.
This is an interview with Elvis Presley by radio broadcaster Harold Johnson recorded on August 9th 1975 at the Memphis Liberty Bowl Stadium. Elvis was at the stadium enjoying a football game between the Memphis Southmen and the Charlotte Hornets when the interview was conducted live on air.
Elvis' pivotal Year of 1969 celebrated with Elvis: American Sound 1969 featuring over 90 tracks of rare and unreleased material from Elvis' 1969 legendary American Sound Studio sessions, including 'In The Ghetto' and 'Suspicious Minds'. FTD have revised the original wording to the press release they first put out about the 'American Sound '69' set. The most important parts read: 'Although originally intended as a Sony download release only, FTD agreed to release a limited physical edition after requests from many of you. As this was put together somewhat hastily, clarification is needed regarding the content. The digital set was never intended to be the 'complete' sessions. Therefore it does not include sub-standard, inconsequential and fragmented material that has surfaced on bootleg over the years. It features all the recordings deemed essential by the producers. FTD also advise that they 'will only manufacturing to satisfy initial orders. Any re-orders will only be available if there is residue stock existing from the first pressing'. David English & Pal Granlund who have just released details on their forthcoming FTD Book/CD Elvis Presley - The Making of Viva Las Vegas, are proud to announce a new book, which will be released in 2020 on the 50th Anniversary of the documentary Elvis That's The Way It Is. Some brief details are listed below.
Previously unseen home movie footage which shows Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash together back in 1957 was included in episode four of Ken Burns 'Country Music' documentary series. The clip shows Elvis Presley dancing, possibly to 'Treat Me Nice' from 'Jailhouse Rock'. A Canada Packers sign in the background while Johnny Cash is on the street would suggest that section is filmed in Canada. The first shot is Elvis is chewing gum and dancing - a finger from an unseen man snaps along with his dancing (probably Johnny, based on what comes in a moment).

With a love of rock and roll that began after hearing Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel, LRB's Glenn Shorrock dabbled in more upbeat music. 'I was a fan when I first heard Elvis Presley when I was 14 and found out about this new rock and roll music in America. 'Heartbreak Hotel' was an epiphany as it were. Lying on a bed 108 degrees Fahrenheit in a pretty basic migrant hostel and on the ABC, and I hear this echoing … 'well since my baby left me' … what the hell's that? 'I ran down the corridor and the ABC announcer said 'that was Elvis Presley with 'Heartbreak Hotel' ...

Elois Bedford was probably Elvis' first 'girlfriend' - the relationship ended after perhaps one year when Elvis handed Elois a note as she was about to board the school bus. It said he had gone to another girl. Her name was Magdalene Morgan. Magdalene had had her eyes on the shy youngster for a longer time and she knew - just knew - that one day, sooner or later, they would become 'an item'. 'I guess my infatuation with Elvis started in that little church up in East Tupelo', says Magdalene, known as Maggie in school because people, including Elvis, never got around to learning how to spell her name correctly. 'He sang and picked the guitar. I sang and played piano'.

For many years, a release of
Roustabout in
Follow That Dream Records' (FTD)
classic albums series was an often-made request that the label finally filled in July of 2017. One of the possible reasons why this definitive edition of the soundtrack album took so long to release was the possibility of more outtakes to appear after the early 2000s discovery of the previously unreleased alternate title song 'I'm a Roustabout' that was initially released on the 2003 compilation album 2nd to None. Nothing new has turned up since then, though, and the number of surviving outtakes for Roustabout remains relatively small. To make up for the lack of material, FTD chose to expand the album with newly remixed outtake versions of all eleven master takes.
Elvis was in fine form on this hot August night on August 25, 1969, a performance perhaps never to be beaten. This concert is arguably the best live recording of Elvis Presley in 1969, and is one of the best concerts Elvis Presley ever performed - both in sound quality and performance! All that is left then is to say then is - buy 'Elvis Live 1969' and enjoy this concert along with 10 other great performances, Elvis style.
FTD has advised that the release of the 'American Sound '69' 5 CD Set and 'Elvis Sings Memphis' LP Record has been delayed to around the week commencing September 23, or possibly week commencing September 16. FTD also advise that they will only be manufacturing to satisfy initial orders. Any re-orders will only be available if there is residue stock existing from the first pressing.
'Singer Presents Elvis' was released in 2011 by the Venus label. Now we have a single CD only re-release. This set was first released in 2011 and sold out immediately, mainly because of the many completely unreleased tracks. Most of these tracks are still only available on this set and we’ve got a lot of request for this CD. So we decided to make a low budget version and give everyone the possibility to own these recording on the label that made them available. As with all Venus releases all tracks are uncut and the sound is top-notch!
With Elvis reciting the same stage patter nearly word-for-word in each of the 11 concerts, it's these gaffes and unexpected moments that keep 'Elvis Live 1969' from becoming just an overly repetitive entry for Elvis completists. Instead, the box set serves as a snapshot of a world-class entertainer successfully but gingerly rediscovering the magic that made him so in the first place. 'Suspicious Minds', then just a week or so into its life as a single, is majestic, with Elvis possessed by the pounding rhythm of drummer Ronnie Tutt. The gig is the same one during which Elvis comes to pieces in 'Are You Lonesome Tonight?' supposedly tickled by Sweet Inspirations singer Cissy Houston's ability to keep on singing, unfazed, while Elvis goes further and further off the rails. Still frazzled, he screws up 'Rubberneckin' immediately afterward and asks the band to restart the tune a full 45 seconds in.
The European Side Of Elvis / Words And Music 2 CD set is housed in a beautiful slipcase is a 6-panel digipack with 2 rare albums. This Limited Edition Combi Collectors Pack contains masters and rare alternate tracks. 'Words and Music' was only released on CD in Australia in the mid-'80s and is very hard to find these days. We present it here with rare bonus tracks and mixed with Elvis quotes just like the original release. 'The European Side Of Elvis' was never released on CD. All tracks on this album are rare alternate tracks!!
August 1974 is a remarkable period in Elvis' career. A new Vegas engagement was ahead of him and Elvis and his loyal musicians had plans for a new and refreshing show, which they were going to perform for a two week period. Probably to avoid getting bored from doing the same year in and year out, they went to rehearse some new songs to create the new setlist. Fortunately, the rehearsal from August 16 was recorded on a 2 track cassette deck and is presented here in its ultimate form. Originally released way back in 1995 it was time for an update.

This is an excellent release no fan should be without it.
The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
