Everything in 'Spearhead' involving Elvis is also included in this new book.
The new book contains over 1,500 fascinating photos, about 1,300 of which picture Elvis. Many, many of these are previously unpublished! It is quite likely this book contains more never-before-seen Elvis photos from 1957-1960 than any previous publication. In addition to the 400 black-and-white pages, we feature 104 full pages in gorgeous full color. And wait till you see the amazing shot that graces our back cover!
NO ONE will be able to say they've seen all these photos before! It's a fascinating and accurate text and pictorial history, and the definitive chronicle of Elvis' army experience.
As many living members as possible from Fort Hood have been tracked down as well as Elvis' Scout Platoon, in Germany, and most of these men have shared stories and never-before-seen photos with us for use in 'Elvis: Like Any Other Soldier'. We have also worked closely with key individuals in Germany who were personally involved with Elvis when he was there. Besides the truly amazing photos, we included 40 pages of text, transcripts, interviews, letters, telegrams, and other authentic pieces of correspondence from Elvis, between March 24, 1958 and April 1960 (excerpted from "Elvis: Word for Word" plus some newly-discovered items). To cap things off there is even an army-related music and memorabilia section.

'Elvis: Like Any Other Soldier' is a deluxe edition and is huge: 504 pages, all on beautiful glossy coated stock and with a gorgeous hard cover.
Elvis: Like Any Other Soldier - Book - 50th Anniversary Re-issue
The mammoth 500 plus page publication set for release in August 2010 is filled with such goodies, in color and black and white. As well as fascinating and new insight provided by Elvis' army buddies. As first hand accounts of Presley's life and times begins to fall victim to time, it is wonderful too see these memories and moments preserved forever. For the first time, instead of being provided with glimpses and publicity shots of G.I. Elvis, we see him as he really was in heavy, heavy detail. There have been books focusing on Presley's time in the U.S. Army before, however 'Like Any Other Soldier' is the first time we've ever seen the subject like this!
A collection of press photos and rare candid shots give us a unique perspective on his time served in the U.S. Army from Boot Camp, to Germany, and back. All in extraordinary detail and documentation. In many cases, we are seeing a lot for the very first time. And that seems to be almost every turn of the page.
The book has a particularly unique angle in that it follows Elvis' army career as to what kind of a soldier he was. The focus of the book in fact, is his 'career' in the army. Not so much his 'music career' interrupted by the army. The latter is often the focus of Elvis military literature. 'Like Any Other Soldier' will become the definitive book for researchers in the future when dealing with this topic. Every aspect of that era is here for you to explore.
The highlight of the book is a recently found box of color photos from Grafenwhör. Though not of best quality, color candids are a true rarity! You will even find photo's of Elvis in Weiden (which is only 15 miles of the Czech Republic), which actually puts an end to the discussion if and when Elvis visited Weiden.

The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
