The generosity of Elvis Presley has been well-documented, but no one before has focused on his favorite gift of choice: a shiny new Cadillac. Now, candid and personal interviews with many of the recipients of these automobiles and other extraordinary gifts paint a touching and funny portrait of a man who continues to be cherished by millions.

"200 Cadillacs" features Elvis' original drummer, D.J. Fontana; back-up singers Gordon Stoker of the Jordanaires and Myrna Smith of the Sweet Inspirations; personal nurse Marian Cocke; longtime girlfriend Linda Thompson; karate instructor Kang Rhee; Cadillac salesmen Joey Abel and Ernie Barrasso; personal assistant Jerry Schilling with Over 200 photos of Elvis during different periods of his life, including many never before seen from private collections. (2002. 63 minutes)

The Concept

Documentary with Music Videos : Elvis Presley will forever be an icon of the 20th Century. The Music he created and charisma he projected influenced society and cultures the world over. August 2002 was the 25th anniversary of the passing of the bona fide King of Rock and Roll. With the release of the CDs 30 #1s, A Little Less Conversation, and the movie Lilo and Stitch within the past year, Elvis remains an amazing phenomenon.

The Film : Presley's original band-mate, DJ Fontana, longtime live-in girlfriend Linda Thompson, Gordon Stoker of the Jordanaires, Myrna Smith of the Sweet Inspirations, personal nurse Marian Cocke, hairdresser Larry Geller, Karate instructor Kang Rhee, Cadillac salesmen, Mrs. Ed parker, and a few surprise participants recount the stories behind the gifts and personal recollections of King of Rock & Roll. Many never before seen personal photographs of Presley - from the collections of Sandi Miller, Russ Howe and Tom Salva, among others - are interspersed with the interviews for the film.

The CD : The film's soundtrack features five original songs written especially for the documentary by Rex Fowler of Aztec Two-Step.  The CD also includes an unreleased version of John Hiatt's "Memphis In the Meantime" recorded by Elvis' Sun Records label-mate, Carl Perkins, plus Big Mama Thornton's classic version of "Hound Dog" recorded by Levon Helm & Mavis Staples.  Others adding their songwriting talents to the project include Jon Pousette-Dart, Heather Eatman, Syd Straw, Tom Dean of Devonsquare, and The Cucumbers.

The DVD Contains recently discovered unreleased film of Elvis performing 6 songs, including Heartbreak Hotel and Don't Be Cruel, live in Tupelo Mississippi 1956. This is an excellent release no fan should be without it.

The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
