Elvis Spotlighted at Berlin Jewish Film Festival
In Schmelvis - Searching for the King's Jewish Roots, Canadian director Max Wallace asked the question "Was the King of Rock and Roll kosher?" in exploring the claim that Elvis' great-great grandmother Nancy was Jewish, organizers said.
The documentary is one of 18 films featured at the ninth annual festival which began Sunday evening and is showcasing filmmakers from eight countries.
"Women Talk About Adolf Hitler," an Israeli short by Tamy Ben-Tors, is a parody of standard "talking heads" documentaries in which a frustrated housewife, a secret Hitler admirer and the author of a book called "Healing Hitler" share their thoughts on the Nazi leader on camera.
Still to come this week is the US picture "The Great Yiddish Love," a remake of a 1942 German melodrama which imagines an affair between Marlene Dietrich and Zarah Leander -- divas who stood on two very different sides of the fence during World War II.
A further feature is "Amy's Orgasm," a US romantic comedy by Julie Davis about a self-help author's search for sex and love.
The festival, ending June 25, will award the annual 2,000 euro (2,350 dollar) Gerhard Klein Prize to the best film.

The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
