Statue Of Elvis Presley Erected in Hawaii
The King's Aloha From Hawaii gig at the city's Neal Blaisdell Centre in 1973 reached over a billion people as it was one of the first music concerts to be globally broadcast on television through satellite.
American cable network TV Land has donated the monument to mark the landmark transmission.
Mufi Hannemann, Mayor of Honolulu says, "He was not a native son of our land... but we adopted him as our own."
As well as his concert Elvis also filmed three movies in Hawaii including 'Blue Hawaii', 'Girls! Girls! Girls!' and 'Paradise, Hawaiian Style'.
The statue is tribute to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the King of Rock and Roll's death on August 16 1977.
TV Land is also responsible for five other statues, all of which are characters from television shows: Mary Tyler Moore in Minneapolis; Ralph Kramden of 'The Honeymooners' in New York; Andy Griffith in Raleigh, N.C; Samantha Stevens of 'Bewitched' in Salem, Mass and Bob Newhart in Chicargo.

The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
