Quizzed by entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins as to whether she knew she was dating a superstar, Priscilla responded with a laugh: 'No, I didn't.
Reflection: 'I saw him at probably one of the most vulnerable times of his life. Losing his mother and then of course being drafted which was devastating at the top of his career. So he poured his heart out to me', the actress and businesswoman revealed.
'Obviously I'd heard of Elvis, one of my best friends had a fan club that you could join and she showed me the magazine, and when she showed me the inside...
'Elvis was signing this blonde woman across her breasts. I looked at that and (thought) there's no way I could be a part of this fan club. It's really gross.
'And then I was introduced to him, but do you know what it was?' Priscilla trailed off.
History: During the interview, Priscilla revealed that she had been introduced to Elvis, but was never interested in his fame or worldwide appeal.
Union: Priscilla wed Elvis in 1967, later divorcing in 1973, just four years prior to his death.
Revealing to Richard that she saw a much softer and vulnerable side to Elvis, the New York-born personality continued: 'I didn't see him as this movie star or this huge iconic singer. 'I saw him at probably one of the most vulnerable times of his life. Losing his mother and then of course being drafted which was devastating at the top of his career. So he poured his heart out to me'.
Elvis married Priscilla Beaulieu on May 1, 1967, but the pair divorced in 1973. They had one daughter together, Lisa Marie Presley.
Priscilla Presley spoke to TODAY Show's entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins about the day she heard her former love had died.
'I still remember, vividly, picking up the phone, the reaction of not believing it, there was no way I could comprehend…' she said.
'Going back to Graceland and hearing his father wailing, crying, crying out his name, it was probably the most heartbreaking sound I'd ever heard.
'That was, of course, when reality hit'.
Priscilla said she believes the star 'gave up a little bit' in the year or two before his death.
'He'd hit the top, and it was almost that question, ‘where do I go from here?'.
'He was just tired'.
Priscilla will visit Australia in November this year, sharing her personal stories in an interview format, alongside Today's Richard Wilkins.
