For The Billionth And The Last Time | Lifting the Lid on the King's record sales

How many records has Elvis actually sold? Did he really sell one billion records as has been frequently claimed? Ten years ago I researched this subject in depth with help from Ernst Jorgensen and through him Sony BMG and compiled a comprehensive report, which was published on this site. To some extent, as I have said before, this continues to be a work in progress, but the likelihood of more information on the question of international sales outside the USA emerging after all these years are remote. It is, after all, over 40 years since he died.

The Seventies Revisited | An Alternative Singles Policy

In a previous article I dealt with the period from 1963 to 1968 when Elvis and his fans suffered from a poor selection of tracks which were chosen for release as singles. I outlined what I thought was an alternative release schedule that would in my opinion have kept him firmly in the Top Ten. In this article I examine the 1970's in much the same way.

Elvis at the Movies

Is it the time for a chart busting compilation CD? Not for the first time some Elvis fans are beginning to worry that an endless recycling of his most famous songs-not forgetting the re-release of his old number one singles in the UK-will lead people to think that Elvis has made nothing else worth listening to and so never discover the true scope and depth of his unique musical legacy.

The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
